Newk’s Express Cafe

What a treat to eat a fast meal that’s not fast food! I had a «simply salad» and sweet tea. My son had the artisan 5-​cheese pizza. I had some of his pizza just so I could talk about it. (It’s science, you see.)
Great great great food. Did I mention the food is great? I’m not a goat cheese fan, but it was a good blend with the other 4. Beyond my expectations.

I love this place. The food is always great. Good variety of sandwiches & flat bread pizzas, all of which are really good. My favorite part of their menu is the soups, chili, and mac + cheese. Consistently a very good, quick eats option.

Really nice portions, quite a few options, consumer– friendly, and fresh!
Stop in on an evening after work when you don’t feel like cooking or when you don’t want crazy greasy grub. There are quite a few salads to choose from and they’re huge! I can put away some food, but the bowls make you consider sharing. I like their broccoli & cheddar soup, loved the turkey sandwich, and salad bar options. The fact you can opt for a «pick two» or «half soup half sandwich» option is great! This is always a little awkward at certain restaurants when you’re not sure, but yes, you can leave your trash behind… they clean up after you.

Expensive but worth it. Depending on which location you visit will determine how quickly your food is served to you. Tuscaloosa was very slow, but this location was no delay.
The food is genuinely fresh and good tasting. I would recommend it to someone whom doesn’t care about a budget.

Until recently, I thought Newks was a catering company, because we always ordered lunches from them at work. What?! It’s an actual sit down restaurant?!? Amazing.
It took me a while to get here during rush hour (no fault of the restaurant), but once I arrived, we were able to quickly order, and our food was brought out a few minutes later. I got my fave: Newk’s favorite salad. I (thankfully) asked for the dressing on the side. I’ve heard that they usually have a heavy hand with the salad dressing, so a tip for fellow rabbit food eaters.
Ambiance was casual. Not too loud. And I like the big cups to refill my drink before facing traffic on 280.

Newk’s is a favorite of mine, probably due to the fact that it is catered to my office frequently. They’ve always had a great menu with lots of options, but they’ve added even more recently, and it has gotten even better. My ‘go-​to’ option on the menu is the Newks Q sandwich — grilled chicken, white BBQ, bacon. Add some hot sauce and it makes it even better. The chips are good sides, but I’ve taken to ordering the mac & cheese with bacon as my side, and it’s delicious. Whether ordering take-​out or dining in, Newk’s always pleases.

First time visiting and I wasn’t disappointed! I got a half sandwich and the pimento, bacon Mac & cheese. That sandwich was pretty good but the mac was amazing! I like that they had the little station with pickles, sauces, bread sticks, etc and the service was fast.

Ordered my favorite new item — 5 cheese pizza. The first time I had it was absolutely amazing, unfortunately the second two times have not been so great. I decided to give them another chance after the second one wasn’t as great as the first. I ordered it to go as I didn’t have a long lunch break. What an unfortunate disgrace. The pizza I was given had sun dried tomatoes and fresh Parmesan burnt to a crisp. I can’t even fathom the fact that whoever took this pizza out of the oven thought it was acceptable, extremely disappointed of their «standards».

Ughhhhhh soooooo goooooddddd. There is another location downtown. Ughhhhh delicious. Had the club my mouth is still watering. A few days later my daughter and i tried the roast beef and pasta salad… I want more. Thank you to the great staff for a yummy sandwich and one cashier. (i wish i remembered her name) that was so sweet to my daughter and suggested trying the roast beef even though she hasnt tried it. I bet after seeing me grin ear to ear she tried the roast beef. Definitely have recommended this restaurant to everyone i know…

Excellent food I had the Veggie Club with a bowl of spinach and feta soup and it was delicious! Everything was full of flavor and excited my taste buds. I will definitely be returning!

Not as busy as the Vestavia Hill location and not as good!!! My salad had very little meat or anything else. I took it up and they were really nice about it and brought me a salad with the right amount of stuff. However, I’m not sure if it’s because their not busy enough but the chicken meat was REALLY dry. The lettuce wasn’t chopped as much as the other location either. At any rate, I will probably just go to the other location because the salads are always excellent there!!!

Newk’s 280 is a great place to grab lunch or dinner with your family. The patio is one of our favorite spots. They’ve been kind to donate to local cancer awareness entities, which makes a difference — it is nice to see a business who invests in the community where they live. They have killer pizza, too!

Had Mediteranean pizza, and wife had turkey sandwich with side pasta salad. Pizza had kalamatta olives, chicken, sliced roma tomatoes, feta and mozzarella cheese and artichoke hearts. Was hot and tasty. Perfect amount. Turkey sandwich looked good. Wife said tasted good too. Bread was toasted and hot, had lots of turkey and hot Cajun mustard. Brought home a brownie and peanut butter cookie crisp with coupons given to us. Will report later on those with a cup of java in the morning. Great restaurant and close by.

I’m still puzzled about how I feel about Newk’s.
It clearly has the right idea: Founded in a college town, it offers tasty sandwiches at good prices, along with handy to-​go tubs and wrapped items. It’s the perfect idea.
The menu is great too, offering pesto sandwiches, mac and cheese and even pizza. A friend and fan of Newk’s suggested I try the «Newk’sQ,» a «white barbecue» sandwich.
I love barbecue — I’m Texan — but I wasn’t really prepared for this. The sandwich was closer to a chicken salad than anything resembling what I know as barbecue. With that said, it wasn’t bad — it was just different.
Service was quick and friendly. The menu was expansive. Even the con=diment bar was enormous, with everything from sriracha to capers.
This is a good place for a quick lunch or a quick dinner. It’s a fun atmosphere with solid food choices.

First time at this location. Probably my worst Newks experience ever. Waited for approximately 8 minutes before someone acknowleged us. Got our salads about 10 min later. I got the Newk’s favorite. The pieces of chicken were scraps. No whole pieces. They put mozzarella cheese instead of the goat cheese. I was really hungry so I ate it but it was by far the worst salad I’ve had at newks.

1^st time here… My sandwich and mac & cheese were a good choice but I wish I had tried the mac & cheese with bacon in it. I like there reusable plastic cups and really enjoyed the strawberry cake slice I took home to enjoy later. Good place for a quick lunch.

Good grief, the mac&cheese with pimento & bacon is killer. Thought they couldn’t improve upon the Newk’s Q, then they came up with the PB&Q…as if I could say no to pork or bacon. The soups are always tasty, and I’ve never been disappointed with the pizza the few times I’ve gotten it. Add a little parmesan cheese to the potato soup, you won’t regret it! Great place to grab quick chow without stooping to drive-​through territory. Easy to eat here alone or with a group of friends.

I am convinced that those who don’t like Newk’s are looking for reasons to hate any corporate restaurant because it’s corporate. I’ve only had pizza here but I can’t deny good pizza when I taste it. Just don’t look at their nutritional information to fully enjoy your meal.
The Debrah is a fun combination of basil pesto sauce, freshly grilled chicken, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses and Roma tomatoes. The flavors were rich and the chicken was cooked decently. It’s the tomatoes that really had my attention. I also ordered the Spicy Shrimp which consisted of chili oil, broiled shrimp, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, roasted red and yellow bell peppers, sliced Roma tomatoes and crushed red chilis, garnished with fresh cilantro. I ordered this based on the employee who told me it wasn’t really spicy at all. It is. However, just like the spicy pizza I’ve ordered long ago, as long as you keep it in the fridge for a few days and don’t heat it up, you get a tasty pizza with some zing!
Refrigerator Test: I can still taste the pesto in the Debrah! The spiciness lingers at a beginner’s level when you keep the Spicy Shrimp in the fridge for a day or two.

Ive gone to Newks several times and never had a bad experience. The place is kept clean and the food is always amazing.
Try the steak sandwich with a cup of chicken gumbo!
What really sets this place apart, and makes it 5 stars in my opinion is the table with all those fresh condiments.
I wish Panera bread did this

Really tasty! I had the bbq pizza– nice size and good price, fiancé had newk q… oretty dern good. We’d both like to try other menu items. id say go for it & be sure to try new things.
beer & wine is a plus. fast service is fantastic!
