Amazing food! From the mouth-watering prime rib to the soup, salad, and crème brûlée, I can always find something epic to order! Service is wonderful as well. It’s a great place to host your event, as I’ve attended several events like luncheons, dinners, baby showers and dinner theater presentations there, too.

It’s been at least 15 years since I have last eaten at The Alcove. The one dish that has left a lasting memory was the crab and asparagus soup. I ordered this and was wondering why I stopped back in. It was loaded with ingredients but it was totally bland. After this I was not looking forward to my sandwich. The reuben sandwich sounded good, with the mention of house corned beef, and you could get onion rings without an up charge, a big plus. My favorite reuben is the one I make at home so the bar was already set a bit high. When the dish came out it looked like a normal reuben, but the onion rings were huge and looked perfect. The sandwich over delivered. The cheese/meat/dressing/sauerkraut ratio was perfect, usually something gets lost. The corned beef was awesome, I would love to see this in a hash. The onion rings needed a little salt but had a nice crisp batter and the onion was thick sliced with good flavor. The service was good. I would go back to have this dish again. Glad to see its back open.

If you find you need a little bit of an upscale or special occasion meal in rural central Ohio, you can rely on The Alcove.(Visitors to Kenyon, take note!) The room is charming, the menu is a big step up from down-home country, and there’s a full bar. We wanted to treat friends who lived in Johnstown to something nice, and didn’t want to go to Columbus. This ended up being a pleasant 25 miles drive, and it was worth it. The chicken parm was very good. Loved the salads and dressing, the spinach and artichoke dip, and the filet.

In town for MVNU basketball game & wanted nicer place to eat and talk. Good service and good food. Quaint décor — nice small town place.

A gem in the heart of Ohio. Fresh ingredients and a quaint environment, I really enjoyed my lunch with colleagues. The warm bread and butter to start the meal is delicious and my Eggplant Tower lunch entrée was really tasty. I strongly recommend this spot. Oh wait — the free chocolate chip cookies just arrived as complementary desert… five stars plus!

Came on recommendation of local quilt shop and we were very pleased with our visit. Service was excellent and the food was very very good. My wife had a Ruben and I had a beacon, egg, lettuce and tomato. It was an interesting combination with the addition of the egg to a BLT, but it was outstanding. Definitely would come back.

Stopped here for lunch on way home from Holmes County. Food was terrific, and service was excellent. I had the prime and cheddar melt with steak fries and my wife had the spinach salad and crab and asparagus soup. I don’t know why we received the complimentary cookies, but they were delicious.

First time visit. Ordered the crab and asparagus soup and baked Brie salad. Soupmazing! I’m a big Brie fan and this was a creative and tasty salad. Wanna come back for one of the dinner theater events one day. My waiter was super nice and helpful. And don’t let the unassuming storefront cause you to miss this unsuspectingly expansive and beautiful dining area.

We were in Mt. Vernon to see a friend who was in Grease. We looked on Unilocal and picked the alcove. The place was nice, service was fine. I got the crab and asparagus soup because someone on Unilocal said it was good. To quote Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm…“You’d have to be a moron to not know the difference between real crab and imitation crab”. It was fake crab in the soup. That should require a disclosure. For the price I should have known. Everything else was good. My wife liked her food and it was reasonably priced. The fake crab however, is, a deal breaker.
