First time here. Service was awesome, friendly staff. Beef fajita tacos were above average and the refried beans are to die for. Salsa has good flavor but could use a bit more heat. Reasonably priced. Wish my home town had this kind of place.

I didn’t really have high expectations going in but this was truly bad service. Seated immediately and that’s the extent of the good part. Waited forever for a waitperson. Once she did finally come she informed us we were not in her section and we could see she wasn’t thrilled to serve us. We ordered El Cabellero(sp), Mexican Sampler and Brisket Ench Plate. Large portions but not impressed. Food wasn’t even mediocre except the crunchy taco, that was decent. I don’t recommend this even for a quick stop on a road trip like ours. Keep going.

Don’t go in expecting excellence I guess. The staff seemed very out of it, almost like they weren’t doing anything really. We were seated immediately but it did take a while for our order to be taken.(Given the relative amount of people in the restaurant) I had the Brisket Enchilada, which was good. As was the white queso. I wouldn’t say I recommend this place if you’re looking to impress anybody but it’s alright for our purposes(a road trip).

I eat at this El Chico location quite often. The food is consistently well prepared and tastes very good. The wait staff is always friendly and very attentive. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for some good Tex Mex at a reasonable price.

We returned again 5÷30÷2015. We had good service and our food was as expected. Good attentive service is always a plus. We left a 20% plus tip because we know what to expect from the menu, which we received, and the waitress was attentive.

Classic El Chico. Comfortable atmosphere, clean and excellent service except that one of the owners ignored the hostess stand and left me standing there while she visited with a table 10 feet away with an arm full of menus. Its not a good feeling to walk into a restaurant you’re trying to give money to and be ignored by an owner. The best part is the food, and the chips n salsa are perfect. This privately owned franchise offers a daily $ 5.99 daily lunch special. I stopped by for the famous Enchilada Wednesday. Every El Chico has $ 3.99 enchilada meals on Wednesday but I was surprised that this location does not participate. As far as fresh Tex-Mex, this place serves it.

Worst restaurant experience of all time and that’s saying a lot. Our family ate here weekly for several years with good food and alright staff. My son ordered beef fajita nachos on our last and final visit. He took one bite and said something is wrong! He said«smell this!». The beef was clearly rotten. We immediately brought it to one of the owners attention. She smelled it and acted as if nothing was wrong with it. She never entered the kitchen while we were there, just went back to the front.

Awful sour cream enchiladas!!! Place was dirty, dark and just nasty food! Not ever eating here again!!! Bad service here and the Hampton Inn over the holidays! Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Now that we moved here we get to go here more often and everything was great! All of our food was hot and just cooked! The only bad thing is it is all Tex-Mex not authentic Mexican food! But it’s worth your time and money!

Stopped while traveling and was glad we did! It was busy. usually a good sign. The red salsa was the best I’ve had in a long time. If I lived here, I’d be a regular.

You will not find any exploratory Tex-Mex recipes or cutting edge techniques, but you will find a very friendly staff and good simple food. The recipes are simple and not real flavor bursting, but they are still good and cooked well. I ordered the Chicken Chipotle Enchilada and it came out fast and hot. I did not get a hint of Chipotle flavor, but it was good the same. Additionally, I liked the chips and salsa provided… as that is usually a quick judge to the place you are eating at. if they can’t get that right, use caution with the menu. Here, you have no worries. The chips and salsa was good. Charlene was my waitress and she did her best to ensure my beer or tea never went empty. Overall, I saw many families eating here and it seems to be a hub of central activity for the community dining spot. I saw the manager frequently checking on many tables and sharing laughs with many patrons. If you are in the area and need a simple stop off of the highway, like I did, give them a try. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain on Unilocal about either.

Love love love this place!!! It’s pretty typical Tex-Mex food, but what makes this place soooooo good is their green sauce!!! Drooooooool Their tortilla soup is amazing, very different from other restaurants. It’s thick and rich and doesn’t have a ton of unnecessary vegetables. Chicken, broth, chips, avocados, and tons of cheese. De-lish. Their chicken is very smokey and tender. I love their fajitas and fajita quesadillas. The guacamole is just meh, not a huge fan at all. The enchiladas are good, but Two Senoritas has them beat there. The reason to choose El Chicos over Two Senoritas, which is practically across the street, is the green sauce. It’s mysteriously delicious. What is in it? Avocados and magic?! I can(and have) drink this stuff straight out of the bowl. I think they charge extra for it, but that’s just a testament to how delicious it is. They don’t just give this stuff away! Their salsa is pretty delicious too, and their chips are usually legit, but sometimes they can be pretty greasy. Service is friendly, and usually pretty prompt. Prices are decent, and location is prime.

We arrived at El Chico really late — not realizing they close at 9, I think it was about 2 minutes until 9. There were 12 people in our party, so they put us in a private room. The service was great. The server was back checking on us just enough to be helpful — not enough to be annoying. Our food was brought out quickly — but was a bit cold. It could have been because there were so many of us, or the lateness, but it was definitely not hot. The chips and salsa were good. The 3 chimichangas were okay– the shredded beef one was literally nothing but shredded beef, so if you are not a huge fan — I wouldn’t suggest this… One of the other chimichangas had so much cheese in it that, since it was cold, it was all congealed and greasy. We also had a sampler platter which was better. There were tasty nacho-style chips, that even cold they were yummy. The jalapeño poppers were good. In a town that is really small, the place was better than I expected… I would recommend it — just maybe not so late or with so many people.

First time in Mt Pleasant and I have to say, I didn’t have high hopes for this place. I usually check Unilocal for reviews and it seems that it isn’t very popular on this side of town. As we sit the waiter brought a huge bowl of chips. Chips and salsa are my fave in a mexican restaurant. The chips here were perfectly thin and salted just right. A huge bonus since I’m a germaphobe is the individual servings of salsa! OMG it was great! I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and it was delicious! It was accompanied by a side of corn and it was very good. Very pleasant surprise in Mt Pleasant! Our server was very good; our drinks never went empty. He even came and filled our salsa cups! A+!! Food was good and portions were perfect. :)

In my mind, El Chico’s is the better of the two Mexican restaurants in Mt. Pleasant. Their food is excellent with a wait staff that is well mannered and attentive. Their catered fajitas are also good as well as their red sauce. If you go there and Sheldon waits on you, get ready for lots of laughs and good stories.
