I do not understand these«BBQ» places because this place as well as outlaw bbq both suck! We didn’t even get to eat at this place because they only serve baked beans and Mac n cheese before 3pm! How do you make any money?! Those are basic staples to bbq. Since moving out here I’ve been so disappointed in these supposed Texas BBQ places. They taste like crap, have no business sense and lack the basic requirements to be considers a BBQ joint.

Meat was dry and tasteless. Bar b q sauce was watery and tasted like sugar water. No flavor. Coleslaw was wilted and old. Beans were mushy. Potato was riddled with bad spots and yet still cooked and served. Staff was rude and actually all 3 left and never checked on us again. Go 20 minutes down the road in either direction you’re headed and find something that won’t cause vomiting and other stomach issues. We paid 65 $ for 2 pounds of ribs, 2 sides each for 3 people and a baked potato with meat. Way over priced for something you will throw up in 20 to 30 minutes. No exaggeration.

Pulled pork and sliced brisket was tender and flavorful especially with their sauce. Coleslaw was fresh. Friendly staff. Loads of character. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Fast, easy and good BBQ close to I30. I would stop here again. I had a pulled pork and sausage sandwich with pickles and onions with sauce. Pretty decent sandwich. Should have asked for slaw on top, but that’s for next time.

Excellent quality of BBQ. We had the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. Moist and tender, but not fatty, the meats were full of flavor! The sides were a nice addition with lots of variety. Don’t forget to top off your meal with the banana pudding! This little hometown spot is a welcome sight on a long road trip. We’re tired of fast food along the interstate. Mt. Pleasant’s Blalock’s BBQ was perfect! The service was friendly and fast. I felt right at home here. Definitely coming back here again!

The staff was friendly, but didn’t seem to happy about working on a Sunday. The BBQ is said to be «Best in the world», I have to strongly disagree. The BBQ was good, but not great. They do give you a larger portion than most places. It was nice to be given your own bottle of BBQ sauce to bring to the table. The reason this place only gets 2 star is the sides and desserts. Mac n cheese was«Great Value» boxed not home made. I saw the boxes and not basing that on taste. Banana pudding was«instant boxes crap». The Black eyes pees were lacking. The BBQ itself was good, but the sides were generic store brand and not home made. Nothing world best about this place at all!!!

We were driving to Oklahoma and stopped here on the way back. It’s kind of a hole in wall place, but the food was pretty good. I didn’t eat much, but what I had was tasty. The place is a little older, but seemed clean. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome, they even joked with the kids a little. I had a sandwich and the beef was moist. The potato salad was good and I finished my kids red beans as well. Overall it was a good experience, but not spectacular. It’s not easy for me to relax and enjoy a menu when I’m driving home from an exhausting trip, so I don’t have much to add other than if I was driving past this place and found myself hungry, I would go back.

Food was just ok, the bad part was listing to the owners argue over what color T-shirts they should purchase for their business. Kinda sounded like Dolly Parton arguing with Hank Williams. They kept up their argument the entire time we were eating. Very unprofessional to say the least.

The pulled pork was amazing. The sides were kind of meh. Sausage was excellent. Ribs, not bad but we’ve had better. The sauce was tasty. Staff were super nice and friendly. Prices were a little high we thought. Still, we’d definitely stop here again.

This is not a fancy place, just down-home BBQ! We just loved the beef brisket! BBQ sauce was delicious, too. I prefer the mild, my husband, the hot. We were both happy! After this place, as we drove our 32′ RV cross-country, we measured every other BBQ restaurant in terms of how many«Blalocks» it deserved!

I travel a lot by car and am a bar b que fan. I was really disappointed when one of the options was chicken and he microwaved a piece of chicken from a bag with colored grill marks. The brisket was ok, the beans were fine. Everything would been ok except for the terrible chicken. At least I tried.

Don’t waste your money or your time. Run of the mill food and forget the $ should be $$ my husband had brisket with a piece of bread and two sides and I had a frito pie add in drinks and we spent almost $ 23. Meat is dry and overcooked, beans had no flavor at all and somehow they managed to give me a cold frito pie which I then had to ask to have heated in the microwave. There were six of us and we are used to trying food in all different kinds of towns and restaurants large and small. We left completely unsatisfied and feeling a little ripped off by the prices.

We stopped in because of the sign World’s Best. I had the sliced beef sandwich my wife had the chopped beef. The meat had the correct texture and moisture but had no taste. It was if they cooked the meat in their crock pot like they would cook a roast. I buried it in sauce. It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t good. It didn’t match my expectations of Texas Bar-b-que.

Here’s the thing… This place is a genuine home-spun Texas country barbecue joint. It just feels right and inside and out it looks like something from a Hollywood movie set. But it’s the real deal, okay? I love it for that. But…(and you knew that was coming)…the chopped beef sandwich and pinto beans I had were bland. Not bad, just nothing special. You’ll get a tastier meal across the street at Applebees but you can find that everywhere. If you want to support the locals, come on in and take it for what it is. Maybe there’s something better on the menu than what I tried. Not in a hurry to go back but glad I went in. It’s not always just about the food, is it?

To me the essence of Texas BBQ is smoke, especially in east Texas. This barbecue had none to speak of. I so dislike giving a poor review but Blalocks has had more than enough time to perfect decent barbecue. Some places can stay in business just because they are in business. When there is no serious competition around it isn’t hard. I had the standard chopped beef sandwich which was devoid of much flavor at all. The sauce at least was served on the side as is proper with Texas BBQ but unfortunately is was not very good. Might as well have been a supermarket brand. Could have been for all I know. At some point in time someone will establish a good BBQ joint in this town. And when they do, The other mediocre places will have to shut their doors. Please! Someone! Come to our BBQ rescue.

I was coming home from a camping trip near Daingerfield one Sunday afternoon. I felt a little hungry and considered stopping at a couple of the local eateries I passed. I didn’t expect to eat great food at any of them, but I thought it’d be nice to reminisce about the similar local dives in the small town I grew up in near Austin. Just before I turned onto I-30 I saw the giant sign for Blalock and decided this place looked like just what I wanted. This is a charming BBQ joint with enough room for a pretty large number of people. Their menu is pretty typical for a local BBQ dive; it’s a big board on the wall with sandwiches, combination plates, and bulk BBQ. They have options of 3 cold sides and 3 hot sides(potatoe salad, slaw, macaroni salad, beans, mac n cheese, and another hot one that I don’t remember). I decided to go about as unhealthy as possible and ordered the pulled pork and sausage combo plate with mac n cheese and beans. The pulled pork was moist and not too fatty but lacking in flavor. The sausage was cooked well and was very, uh. sausagey tasting. The mac n cheese was the kind you make out of a box and the beans where just beans w/o any unique flavoring. Like I said, my expectations of the food weren’t very high; they were almost met. What bothered me the most was a tiny little insignificant thing that happened while my plate was being prepared. The lady behind the counter chopped up my sausage and pulled board and put it on a Styrofoam plate. She then placed said plate on a scale which read out .53 lbs. She grabbed a tiny pinch of the pulled pork and removed it to make the scale read out to .48 lbs. What I saw was this: she accidentally gave me a measly .03 lbs extra meat and stingily took .05 lbs of meat away to ultimately short me .02 lbs. I don’t care about the amount of meat cause all of those numbers are very insignificant and I didn’t finish my plate anyway, I just found it odd and very impersonal. I’ll be in Mt Pleasant, TX around this time next year and will be trying Pete’s instead.

Ehh flavor, Owners are above being nice. Ribs were moist. Mac salad was NASTY. Potato salad was ehhh. brisket needed ALOT of sauce, very dry. Bottle water is from Wal-Mart? I know water is water, but WALMART? REALLY? Down side, a conversation between a guy whom I think may have worked there prior and just got out of the hospital and the owner got a little nervey. He should have asked him to come back when nobody was there but they just kept on talking. Felt bad for the guy. Better BBQ to be had. Not worth the drive back. Don’t know why they use the comment, BESTBBQ in texas. Far from it.

UPDATE: The food is not bad, the people working here are extra customer service oriented! The stop is worth it after a 5 hrs on the road to eat, but for a special trip not so much. The beans were right out of the can, the salads were as well. The sauce choice(one sauce) was sweet and tangy but nothing special either. The ribs on each end were greasy or dry and crisp, the middle ribs of ½ rack were pretty good and smoked flavored. The friendly ladies that work there gave Blalock another star. There are too many choices for BBQ to return.

Super friendly folks. Interesting place and refreshing from the Subway, McDs, etc at every other highway exit. Pretty decent BBQ. After 3pm no more beans. WHAT?! Slaw and salads were from the store instead of made from scratch. That’s embarrassing.

The aroma from this place deserves it’s own star by itself. Sad when you see a «home-made» place dumping a container of macaroni salad and cole-slaw into their containers. The BBQ sauce was good. I wish we would have had a pulled sandwich. I was under the impression that what we ordered was but sadly no. I would try again, but with a small amount of hesitation.
