This is a place all Route 66 fans must embrace and help keep alive. The history here makes it a lifelong memory for anybody that ever travelled this historic highway. As with most Illinois Route 66 landmarks, you can plan to stick around awhile and have a nice chat with nice people. When you get down to it, Route 66 is just an old road, but the people that keep it going are real American gems. I cannot count the number of lifelong friends we have made while travelling the Mother Road. To Trisha Eve J.: Keep planning that road trip. It is worth whatever it will cost. If you keep hoping and planning, then one day, it will come true for you. It happened that way for us. What was just a great idea in 1998 became reality for the first time in 1999 and is now our source of income, wholesaling Route 66 merchandise to gift shops. There is always a way to make it from Chicago to LA. It’s the reason this road became what it was – people searching for survival.

Visited: August 9th, 2011 Since Mt. Olive, IL is a small city, it’s kind of hard to get lost. The most prominent building in the area is the Soulsby’s Service Station on the old Route 66, which has been a landmark for quite some time. My boyfriend and I passed by it so much when going back into town. It’s such a nice landmark to visit, especially if you are trying to hit all the landmarks on Route 66(which starts in California). One day I might actually embark on that road trip. Who really knows… :)
