4 of us rolled in after a day of bird watching in the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. Everyone else got eggs, pancakes etc. which were very good. I however, being the rebel of the group opted for the french toast stuffed with strawberry cream cheese and strawberries on top. Crispy on the outside. Warm and creamy on the inside. Goes great with their coffee. The tip for eating this is to eat it slowly letting it roll around your tongue, savoring each bite as if it were your last. Let the flavors and textures melt in your mouth. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous. We had about a 5 minute wait but it was worth every minute.

Wow, my mom, sister and I went there for breakfast and it was exceptional! We all agreed their grits were the best we had ever had! They had an apple pancake that my sister ordered and she loved it! They had some incredible specials on the board to! I had an omelette with tomato feta and bacon that was really really wonderful and all of their food was great but the service was absolutely fantastic as well! We would drive back up there just to eat there!

We have lived here for a year and never knew that the Highland Café was there until today. My stepson was visiting from S. Fla. and wanted to go to a breakfast place on Mt. Dora and not the chain restaurant. He found The Highland Café. We went there and we were pleasantly surprised. We, my husband and I will be back. J. Gilick

Great service, great coffee and wow on the Chicken Philly omelette! Now we know why the ratings are high — well deserved! And on the service, everyone was looking out for us, not just our waitress. You don’t get that very often! Oh, and don’t miss the grilled biscuits! Greg said they were delicious.

This is a fun, local mom and pop restaurant with a cozy vibe. The whole building is theme with dogs and it’s absolutely adorable. There is parking in front and on the side, and if it’s really busy, you may have to park along the streets surrounding the area. The breakfast options varied from scrambles to combos. I really enjoyed the simplicity that they offered with the combos. Everything came up quickly and was cooked the way it was ordered. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They checked in on us periodically and check out went smoothly. Overall: A A good place to hit up for breakfast in the Mount Dora area.

This is a lovely little place! We’ve been here a couple of times. It was my birthday our first time here. My 11yo daughter slipped the wait staff a note saying it was my birthday. They graciously accomidated us with a musical tribute! Pros are good food, exellent service, good serving size. Cons are few, very cozy and no kid menu. We will be back for sure! Oh I almost forgot the stuffed French toast here is yummo!

Came to this place with my fiancé in route to the corn maze in the area. Came in about 11am and I was seated right away. The place is cramped but I love places like this where it’s not about being fancy, but friendly. Ordered the Eggs Benedict, the basic omelet and biscuits and gravy. — Eggs Benedict — Excellent overall with tasty breakfast potatoes. The hollandaise sauce was better than average in my opinion. Eggs and rest of the dish about what you’d expect. — Omelet — Hashbrowns are crispy and the omelet was tasty. — Biscuits and gravy — were good but tasted more like cream of beef. It wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. The biscuits were substantially better than sauce hat went on them. Though the portion size was generous. Overall the place is quaint, has a simple menu and is a very good value with relation with what you pay for and what you get. This is what I feel optimisms a «hole in the wall type place». The service was friendly and the food on par with what you’d expect. Great experience overall.

The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The waitress was the downside and was extremely rude and did not check on us. When I did finally get her attention she sent someone else to take care of us. She was rude and I would never want her as my waitress but the food is great!

Busy place for breakfast but still had great, quick service. I had the Southern Eggs Benedict with their home fries — all was delicious and filling — I couldn’t finish it all! My mom had the regular Eggs Benedict with hash browns and enjoyed that as well. It is not located in the downtown area, it is actually just as you come into Mount Dora, but it is worth the 10-minute drive… Highly recommend this place for breakfast.

Breakfast is absolutely delicious, best grits I have ever had period and I’m a southern boy so I’ve had plenty of good grits and these are the best I’ve ever had. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. Haven’t had lunch there yet but the breakfast is amazing. I live in Winter Park and this place is definitely worth the drive. Prices are very good too. Great little breakfast place. Highly recommended

I get it, this is a hole in the wall and you shouldn’t expect much, however, we couldn’t even get someone to take our order — which may have been a good thing — read on. We waited 15 minutes with no sign of a server then someone driving a white SUV with the restaurant’s name on it arrived and we could hear the servers in another section freaking out. The people in the SUV sat in the booth next to ours and I’m not sure what was going on but the waitress showed up, we smiled ready to give her our order but instead of taking it she bypassed us and went straight to the Important People’s table! RUDE!!! It was like we were invisible! All that time waiting for someone to take our order and we were treated like that? So we left. Clearly they didn’t want us there. On the other hand, maybe we dodged a bullet because just before we left my husband used the men’s room and when he came out he said it was FILTHY. He’s not one to get grossed out but he said it was as dirty as one he’d been in years ago in a third world country. If this restaurant can’t keep the men’s room clean then what does the kitchen look like? So while we left disappointed and quite hungry, perhaps it wasn’t so bad after all. Better disappointed than something worse a few hours later.

Nice lil place. But the food is very simple. A lil more presentation wouldn’t hurt. If «home cookin» is what you want. This is your kinda place. We prefer a lil more finesse. I am not bashing. But this place was average at best.

Really enjoyed breakfast at this cute little place. Our waitress was very sweet as soon as we walked through the door. My boyfriend ordered a biscuits & gravy combo and loved the gravy. I had the stuffed french toast after our waitress suggested it and believe me when I say they are filling and amazing! I’ve tried stuffed french toast at other places where it seems all you get is a donut type toast filled with jelly, these are actual layered toast with a cream cheese and strawberry stuffing. I would go back just for those! Eggs were fluffy and coffee was fresh. Overall great little place with nice staff.

Avoid!!!– another overly greasy — small town slop spot– old coffee– food was greasy and running over with butter. Service was awful– locals say it’s amazing but it’s the ONLY diner in mount Dora. So…

Friendly service and great food, you know it’s a great spot when you see all the cars lined up outside of it in the morning! I’ve got the steak omelette with hash browns that were delicious. Great breakfast spot in Mt. Dora!

My boyfriend and I saw the sign from a far that said«best breakfast» while driving around the area so we decided to try it out before we left Mt. Dora. We were sadly disappointed. The food took at least 30 minutes to come to our table. The server never once came to our table to apologize for how long the food was taking to come out to us. There were other people waiting just as long with no apologies from any of the staff. When we got our food I can say my eggs were hot but there was no flavor what so ever. My hash browns tasted like freezer burn. My boyfriend’s omelet and grits tasted so bland that he even opened up the salt shaker at one point to put salt on his food. When HE salts his food that much than it is bland. The AC was broken the day we came in as well which I could live. I could not recommend this place to anyone based on first time experience.

Definitely a local breakfast spot the staff is super friendly and attentive but the food is average at best. There seems to be ample parking out front and down the side the tables seem to match up with the parking if you can’t find a place to park more than likely you will be waiting to be seated. — Coffee — Very good and fresh a little on the stronger side which I like so I was happy with it, Ultra pasteurized Mini Moo’s packaged creamer meh! — Eggs — Ordered over-medium thats how they came the yellow can run but the white must be done. — Grits — Mushy not the best the hash-browns looked crispy wish I would of ordered them instead(it must of been a sign I didn’t need the carbs). — Chicken Fried Steak — Pre-packages pre-breaded with packaged gravy trust me get the bacon. — Toast — Tasted like toasted bread nothing special it was cold Prices were reasonable next trip to Mt. Dora I will try that«rabbit» place lol.
