Rocca’s has become my go-to for fish tacos, which says a lot for living on the coast! You can taste the freshness in their ingredients and it’s great to know that all that can be made in-house, is. Their home-made chips are crave-worthy and clam chowder is spot-on! The friendly staff aims to please and there is nothing like a cold beer and surf video to set you in the mellow mood. One visit will definitely have you coming back for more!

Place is Closed! Some reviewer just posted 6 days ago how freakin yummy this place was like he ate a taco from here yesterday. Yea right, it’s been closed for a couple months. Nothing left inside except spider webs.

We drove by tonight to maybe try this place out and they are now out of business. The restaurant was completely stripped of furnishings and all the signage was removed from the front. Such a bummer, considering all the good reviews I was reading. Unilocal forces me to give a rating to post this, so I’m giving a 3-star.

Great customer service and the fries were great as well. I enjoyed the clam chowder but it was more of a corn chowder rather than clam so perhaps they served me the wrong item? I would say it actually concerned me to get a clam chowder with no clam chunks and a stack of corn in it but whatever, it was good and the toasted garlic bread bowl made it all worthwhile. I’ll likely come back tonight for the fish tacos, those really look amazing.

I was up in the area traveling up from San Diego(it’s hard to beat Baja style fish tacos from down there) but I stopped in here to have some fish tacos and give the clam chowder a try. Great view. Great tacos. I’d be back again if I lived up in the area. The fish tacos had great flavor. The cod was just perfectly seasoned and grilled. The clam chowder had great consistency. The shrimp tacos also looked good. Maybe next time.

Wanting to try another restaurant in Morro Bay that offers beer-battered fish and chips and decided on Rocca’s. Rocca’s is located at the place that used to be Whale’s Tail which closed a while back. Got the«cowabunga combo» that came with two pcs. of fish, 3 shrimp, 2 calamari, 2 clam strips with fries and an order of the 3 pcs. of drunken and battered fish with house made chips. The beer-battered fish were over-cooked which came out slightly burnt and did not taste as good as I had imagined. Not sure if they knew the fish were overdone or that’s how they make them but I think there needs to be better quality-control. The other fried seafood were tastier than the fish but since the fish should be the star, the meal became somewhat lackluster. I also prefer the fries over the home made chips as I did not find them special and they were also dry and overdone. I guess I was hoping for better food but it did not come out the way I had expected it.

The Gorilla says: «Great view, cute décor. But corn was in the chowder… That’s all I tasted.»

Something different. I walked in on a whim and tried the chicken burger with fries… It was insanely delicious! They use some spicy stuff on the meat that really gives it a great taste. The place itself looks great, it has the whole Hawaian Surfer shack vibe going for it. The staff is friendly and fast. All in all a nice little place to grab a bite while sitting on the docks

Clam and chips was in need of portion expansion. Sparse. The one piece of fish was fried well but too dinky on the clams. Hubby’s chowder was a solid but also sparse on clams. Is there a clam shortage going on I don’t know about? I recommend they change out the towel covers on the seating chairs, which are ripped and needing cleaning or removal. Once their cute beachy cuteness likely prevailed but it’s time for a pick up on that décor.

Overall decent restaurant on the main strip in Morro Bay. If you have a big family and not looking to break the bank on one meal then this is your stop. Fried seafood, some salads, kids meals, some steamed seafood and good fish and shrimp tacos. Okay… for Morro Bay’s standards the fish tacos are good. You order up front, take a number and find a table. You can’t beat the view either as the restaurant faces Morro Rock and the bay. They also sell beer and wine. If you’re looking for a fast and cheaper alternative to the expensive restaurants in Morro Bay then Rocca’s your stop. And do support your Central Cali brewery by ordering a nice bottle of Firestone!

The BEST fish and chips we’ve ever had. The batter was very light and thin– the taste of the fish stood out and wasn’t hidden. The clam chowder is like a corn chowder with clams in it. It had a great taste and wasn’t too creamy. AND finally, the fish tacos were very tasty too. Good seasoning. It’s a come back! Glad Giovanni’s was closed.

There is a Beach Hut sandwich shop type of décor. You order the food at the register, seat yourself, and they bring it out to you. We ordered the Cowabunga Fish and Chip combo which is a fried seafood sampler. This is probably the least expensive place in the ocean front. This is not gourmet food, but not gourmet pricing either. The service was very friendly too. I want to try the steamed clams and muscles next!

Our first time trying this place and we were very happy. The place as hoping busy well past lunch time on a Sunday when we went so the wait was a little long, but well worth it. The Fish and Chips(w/homemade potato chips) was a really good deal and probably right up there in my top 5 all time best fish and chips places. We also tried the Clam Chowder which was equally as tasty. Easy to find and right on the bay makes this place a great find.

We took a spring break vacation to the central coast this year, and tried a lot of different restaurants in the area. Rocca’s was pretty clearly the best food for the price we had the entire week. The fish tacos and fish & chips meals were excellent, at a very reasonable price. Service was friendly and effective, although they did seem a little understaffed. If I’m back in the Morro Bay area, I’ll definitely eat here again.

Stopped by for a quick dinner… a few important things to know: 1. seating is no bueno. they have very limited tables and chairs 2. my fish tacos were just«ok.» They really lacked flavor, I wouldn’t order them again. 3. there was no flavor. 4. nice location down by the water 1 star for excellent service, 1 for cleanliness, and 1 for being close to the water. Not too sure if I would come back, but if I do… I’d try something else, maybe it’d be more tasty!

Epic grilled snapper fish tacos! On point! The fish and chips(real homemade chips… delish!), way yum and not greasy(a major bonus). Seared ahi salad w/creamy wasabi dressing, flavorful and refreshing. This place did not disappoint. Reasonable prices, amazing view, and good food – in a touristy town that is a major plus! Definitely recommend this place :)

You would think that one would be upset once realizing that the view of the ocean from this waterfront restaurant is blocked by a giant rock, that you would find somewhere else to eat. This wasn’t the case. There’s something about that boulder that was fine, just fine. Perhaps the gigantic size or the fact that it’s located randomly in the middle of the ocean with no explanation at all. Whatever it was, it didn’t ruin the experience at all. Good for you, giant rock. Cute surf shack décor. I never had calamari before so to me it was fabulous but my date said it was just okay compared to his other adventures eating calamari. Nice server, no wait, no noise. It was a perfect quick dining experience for passing through Morro Bay.

Since I’m new to the area and having already tried Giovanni’s fish n’chips, I was ready to see what Rocca’s had to offer. Rocca’s is located right on the water and gives you a great view of Morro Rock. It looks a bit touristy and the décor is a bit surf’cheesy, but don’t let it prevent you from coming in. First off, kudos to the staff for being incredibly friendly; always nice to feel welcomed. I ordered their fish n’chips with their ‘homemade’ Rocca’s chips. Which are basically freshly fried potato slices… aka potato chips. I believe the fish was cod(I could be wrong) which was fresh and served with a sort of classic British pub style batter. The fish fillets were large and freshly fried. With a bit of lemon and malt vinegar, it was perfect. My wife ordered the fish tacos which she really enjoyed. She mentioned she liked the fact the fish wasn’t fried but fresh grilled pieces. Good stuff! I’ll be visiting again.
