Love this company! While it’s true that they have kind odd retail hours, it seems like the folks at Muddy Dog are very dedicated to their craft and their customers. I’ve never really had a problem in accessing the product, it’s pretty easy to just call and see if they are over there. Any time I’ve been in(or caught them at the farmer’s market stand off O’Kelly Chapel) Deb has been friendly and helpful. She recently went above and beyond to give my partner some help in breaking in his new espresso grinder. Favorite roasts include Ethopian Harrar and Espresso No. 9. Thanks for your dedication to quality.

Bizarre hours. Even stranger location. Baffled by all of these reviews and how they were able to even experience Muddy Dog, because when we finally did find it, it wasn’t even open during a time that it is allegedly supposed to be.

Amazing coffee, love the«just-in-time» roasting whereby they roast beans after your order is placed, so you know you’re getting the absolute peak of freshness. Always nice to swing by the facility to pick up my beans and a free cup of coffee. Pro Tip: Try the Old North State Blend, fantastic in the Chemex.

Muddy Dog Roasting has made my life better. That’s a big statement, and you might wonder how? After consulting with Jim(the very helpful and informative owner) he recommended a coffee grinder(Baratza Virtuoso) and the Brazil Poco Fundo Organic for my first attempts at using an aeropress instead of a drip coffeemaker. Now the 10 minutes that I used to spend cleaning my old coffeemaker/grinder combo can now be spent sipping the best coffee I’ve ever had at home. So better tasting coffee, and more time! I couldn’t be more happy with the service, or my new grinder since it is a pleasure to use and makes a very consistent grind. The coffee the sent me was so fresh and fragrent that I was tempted to keep it as an air fresher… it tasted even better than it smelled.

Amazing coffee, shipped to your door or in person. So I was looking through various coffee roasters and reviews online one day when I came across Muddy Dog Roasting Co. I took a chance, and I ordered some Indian Malabaar, Yemen coffee(very interesting taste!), and an Etheopian blend. I am very very satisfied for two reasons: 1) The quality of the coffee; 2) The freshness(typically roasted only 1 or 2 days before it ships); 3) Low cost of shipping; 4) Really good variety of beans, including central American and African. Overall, if you want great coffee shipped to your door, these are your guys!

Here are a few of my favorites: Old North State Mexican decaf(any) Yirgacheffe But, honestly, you can’t really go wrong with any option from Muddy Dog. My husband first started buying coffee from Jim & Debbie several years ago now and we haven’t bought anything else since. The choice of varieties are great and most wonderfully they are roasted perfectly– no bitterness or burnt taste that you get from a certain popular national chain. We use a stainless Bodum french press and we’ve taken it everywhere: camping, the mountains, the beach, family vacations, etc. We always bring our Muddy Dog coffee for ourselves and as gifts for our friends. We’ve also given the monthly coffee subscription to my father-in-law and all the guys in the family beg for a bag of Muddy Dog in their stockings each year. Jim and Debbie work very hard to provide not just a quality product, but also an entertaining and educational lesson about coffee. Their business is clearly their passion and we are the lucky ones for that.

I only tried one roast after stopping by and having a 15-minute chat with one of the owners; very nice woman, although I didn’t quite experience the exuberance I get from these other reviews. All that said, I’ll simply say the Yirgacheffe was disappointing, and at a premium price, not sure sure they get a second shot.

Muddydog is amazing coffee. They offer other items such as tea and coffee equipment; but their coffee is outstanding. It is a small business whose owners are very environmentally conscious(they have a special roaster that minimizes smoke, offer biodegradable bags and other things) but the passion they have for coffee is awe inspiring. The best way to experience their coffee is to stop by the roastery and talk to them and sample a few variety of beans. If you don’t have time for that, shoot them an email or send them a note via facebook or twitter. Jim will happily respond with suggestions based on what you tell him you like. You need to give them a try at least one time
