They dont have a nutritional fact sheet!!! I went in on a wednesday… st patricks day 2010 about 3:12pm. Asked the lady and she answered. No, no nutrition. It looked like she was annoyed. Ok. I said and left. I will try them again, but for now I’ve got to say that there are far too many other places with nutritional info.

I am sitting in the Hammocks/Eva’s Café and enjoying the Mayan hot chocolate. The hot chocolate contains nutmeg and came topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. They also have cardamom coffee on the menu too. Prices are what you would expect of a café Warning: ranty. Why don’t café’s invest in decent chairs and tables rather than rescuing the least comfortables chairs known to man from the dumpster behind any middle school. The atmosphere of the place is welcoming but nobody would want to hang out here. Also my tolerance for mariachi music isn’t enough for the likes if Eva Also no spoons available

The receipt paper still says Hammocks Coffee, but the sign out from says Ella’s these days. Not sure if it’s just a name change, or change in the proprietor. I grabbed a small mayan hot chocolate and a chocolate croissant for around $ 5. The service was excellent — the counter gal was very friendly and even offered to warm up my croissant(even though I was taking it to go). The hot chocolate is fabulous… either they make it super hot or they have crazy insulating cups, b/c I didn’t sip it for about 15 minutes(crazy RTP traffic is so distracting) and it was still VERY steamy. Hurrah! The chocolate croissant was honestly pretty mediocore. The croissant was flaky on the top 2 or 3 layers, but then pretty squishy inside. The chocolate wasn’t up to par either. Oh well, I must be spoiled by La Farm. I would definitely go back — and try something else from the pastry cabinet.

Amazing coffee! Try the Italian espresso or the Mayan hot chocolate. While visiting North Carolina, this was one of my favorite coffee stops.

I’m sitting here in Hammock’s — and I love it! Cozy little café with worldly beats in the background. I arrived early for a meeting to grab a coffee and some«lunch.» The pastry options were a little slim at 1:30(understandable), but I was able to get a spinach & feta croissant which they warmed up for me. It was flaky and fresh! My latte perked me appropriately before my meeting began. He opted for one of the specials: an almond joy frappé. And I was momentarily jealous that I’d not thought to order a refreshing frozen coffee-dessert for myself. Really sweet gal working the counter. She apologized for the wait(which wasn’t long) and mixed up some yummy drinks. Free wifi; it’s «limited» to 3 hours and you have to buy something to use it(it shocks me that people would mooch, but maybe they’ve had problems with this since there are signs out about the«restrictions»…) 50% drip coffee discounts on refills. Oh, and they recycle! AND they have a drivethru! It’s about 15 minutes away from home, but I just might make this my unofficial office!

Simply the best coffee in Raleigh. Smooth, friendly, made right every time. Of course if you prefer bitter coffee served with a patronizing attitude, go elsewhere. Free wifi for customers. And the pastries are a step above.

Update: Just had coffee and lunch here again yesterday — gotta rave about the fab chocolate croissant, even warmed it up for me and it was delicious! And calorie free!(Okay, that last part isn’t true, but let’s just pretend it is…)

I’ve been going to Hammocks(my alternative to Starbucks) for a couple of years and have never had bad service, nor bad coffee. In fact, just yesterday I had probably the best(and largest) Turtle Frappé evah! I don’t think I’ve ever had a frappé beverage without one ice chunk to obstruct the straw, until yesterday. Before I could sip up the tasty beverage though, I had to spoon off the walnut pieces sprinkled on top of a mountain of whip cream(I like walnuts and ate mine, but if you have nut allergies, you may want to request yours without). I love their drive through — it’s not fancy — no screens to display your order — but there’s a colorful sign to greet drivers-by, right by the speaker, with all the details about the day’s choices. I’ve rarely encountered a wait at the drive thru. At most, a two-car back-up(as compared to the dozen cars I’ve passed at some Starbucks). In the last year, Hammocks has added some light lunches to their menu, for under $ 7. I’d recommend waiting until Fridays for the lunch box, if you can, for the fresh empanadas. If you live/work in the RTP/Brier Creek area, the location is convenient. As noted, it’s in a strip mall, without too many late night businesses. But if you’re up for some excitement, Frankie’s Fun Park is less than a mile down the road! Coffee and mini golf anyone?

Hammock’s seems a traditional neighborhood coffee shop with a dedication to Latin American beans and coffee without blends but once you get inside you discover its’ charms. I discovered it not too long after moving back to NC and have come to really enjoy it when I want to spend an hour or so with a good java and book(or work on my laptop). It’s a family owned business – same people always working within and a sense of familiarity one can enjoy. It is small in terms of square footage but the seats are comfortable, tables are no wobbly(we all know that crappy feeling) and the Latin American flair to the décor is a very welcome difference from the edgy sparseness of places like Bean Traders or corporate chill of a Starbucks and quite pleasant I must say. Now that the weather has shifted – I find it a definite respite from the standard and a more intimate and relaxing place for my coffee jaunts. The cons again are there and hence why it’s no 5 stars. To repeat– its’ small. It’s in a tiny shopping center which doesn’t offer much to do(there are restaurants around but Hammocks’ oddly closes early every day). Not much outdoor seating either(not any space really) The pro’s– has a drive thru(rare for a small place). Has a great(small but still cool) bookcase where you can select books to read or bring a book of your own and leave it for others, or take a book with you. Likewise, there is free wi-fi which is always good in my book. All in all, this is a great space for couples or individuals who want a local coffee spot for intimate convo with friends or to be alone with their thoughts and focus on a book or writing on their laptops without major distractions. It seems a bygone conclusion but the coffee is great as well and should you ask them, the baristas are very informed and enthusiastic about discussing the merits of Columbian grade coffee. Try it.
