i just went into this local store to purchase tickets for the upcoming play TRU a woman with a red scarf addressed me, told me that i needed to go on line… i explained that i do not have a printer… blank stare… the other woman said«we can do that for you, we will need you credit card information» red scarf woman did not say another word to me… walked away… yikes ! clearly time for me to leave and find another way to do this… second woman said(while i was out of the door) that red scarf was just checking to make sure that there was paper in the printer… really… what is going on with polite society, speaking, eye contact, respecting ones self and others ??? i will probably not be returning to BOOKSMART… however, my belief is that everyone is entitled to a bad day

This store is the reason why you should shop local. We came here to get a gift for a small child. Prices are a bit higher than you’d find in a mass retail chain store, but as soon as you experience the customer service, you see why it’s worth it. The cashier offered to wrap my gift in coordinating paper(for free!) so my daughter wouldn’t be tempted to play with it. She also told me about the local app called«top hat» where you can earn money for shopping and dining around Morgan hill, and redeem at local retailers! Awesome!

Booksmart! How brilliant and lovely, and so much more than a bookstore! I moved to Morgan Hill only two years ago from Cupertino, and was lucky to find it almost immediately. It has an immense collection of books, eyecatchingly displayed, in fact, the entire store looks bright and vibrant, deliciously filled to the brim with fun and cerebral bric-à-brac. It has a unique local and worldwide flavour! It’s the heart and pulse of Morgan Hill downtown. It’s the world(via its books). Perfect. The customer service is impeccable. The knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff always impresses me. There are educational toys, in addition to children’s books, to entice the kids, and icecream and a café to make the entire family stay a while. The place is always buzzing with activity. Art and Spanish classes, tutoring, book signings, mornings with the mayor, and my very favourite Book Lovers Bookclub. I joined it 5 months after moving here, and wished I had heard of it on day 1. I’ve read books I would have never picked up on my own, and have had the most thought provoking and stimulating discussions with the loveliest people! We don’t always agree, and therefore, I improve and expand my mind continually. Owners Cinda and Brad feel like old friends to me now, and all the other members. I’ve hesitated to write a review so far, because I wasn’t sure I’d do it justice, but thought I’d give it a try today, as I hear that Booksmart will have to move from it’s present location soon. It fills me with fear… we’ve got to preserve this rare gem. I truly feel like I belong here in this new town, and a lot of it has got to do with the jewel that is Booksmart. I’m so grateful and such a fan.

We stopped in when visiting the farmers market adjacent to them. This is a very neat book store and place to get toys for children. Seems like they have something for everyone. I didn’t expect it to be so great! Inside there is also a great little café. I have not tried the food, but the ice cream was good.

I took my grand son here after we browsed the Farmers Market across the street. He found a great wooden(yes, wooden!) block train set that he absolutely loved to go along with his Thomas and Friends book we bought him. We ordered a Chicago Dog and a scoop of ice cream to round out our visit-doesn’t get any better. They both were delicious and he played with his train while we ate our lunch. I will definitely be going back very soon.

I enjoy bringing my child here for books. I will say the children’s section is always cluttered and disorganized. It’s gotten so bad that I rather order books on line than try to find what I need in the overwhelming wall of books. Their toy section is surprisingly more organized. Mover all it’s a pleasant place to visit on occasion.

Great customer service! They have an inventory of cool unique toys books and every gift I buy from the store is tastefully wrapped for free. I’m always glad to help out a local business who does a good job!

I loved this place when it was on Monterey Street — the atmosphere was special and unique: narrow aisles, tall bookshelves packed with books, immediately indulging one in the world of fiction. I was hesitant when they moved away from Monterey Street; however, their current space has really grown on me. Although the atmosphere is not as cool as the original store, this is still a beautiful bookstore. The staff is more than helpful; they’re both knowledgeable and engaging — they’ve done their own reading. If they look for it and don’t have it, they’ll order it for you. If I could, I would go here more often; however, my wallet limits my patronage as each visit inevitably results in an armload of books.

Stopped in here yesterday to pick up a donation for our kiddo’s at work and was pleasantly surprised! Super cute and pretty good sized book store /ice cream shop. With so many mom & pop book stores going out of business, this is a true treasure not only for Morgan Hill but for the South Bay. I didn’t have a chance to stay long but there are lots and lots of great books here and the customer services is fantastic. These folks obviously love what they do as it shows in the care of their store, the patience with customers and the fact that they give back to kids in the community who are struggling. I can’t wait to go back, grab an ice cream and get lost in the rows and rows of books they have. If you live in the area and haven’t stopped by, you really need to. And even if you don’t live close by, it’s a fun little afternoon trip for the family.

This is not just a book store. The greeting cards are great, and so is the unusual toy department. The friendly service here is more than worth any small difference in price you might pay above Amazon. AND, you can buy a hot dog or an ice cream. Booksmart is the best!

The best small owned bookstore! They have toys, books, a café and ice cream shop. My kids are always in heaven here.

This is a really great bookstore. Even though Amazon is usually a bit cheaper, I have been buying books here for years because the people here are really helpful and I enjoy supporting local Morgan Hill businesses. I highly recommend checking out this bookstore if you haven’t already.

The staff are proficient at finding rare books at very reasonable prices! The café is the best place in town for lunch. They host many community events and are truly a cornerstone of the Morgan Hill community.

The independent bookstore of America is struggling, but for those that are doing it right, they will be around for a long time. BookSmart, run by Brad and Cinda, is going to be one of those bookstores. Offering a wide selection of genres, as well as merchandise by local artists as well as more mainstream products, BookSmart is a great place to find anyone a gift or find the latest popular title you are looking for. They also offer a café with tables, where you can grab your favorite delicious coffee and sit and read your new book amongst friends. The most important thing I’d like to say about Brad and Cinda is that they are pillars of the community. They do so much for Morgan Hill and the community, including donations, fund raising and support, that they really are the definition of «community pillars». They are genuinely very kind, great people and for that alone, I wholeheartedly support them, not to mention their well-run bookstore.

Love this place! The back where all the toys are is my absolute favorite. You can’t get bored here! An awesome example of an independently owned store done right. Go here if you get the chance!

I’m trying to think of a way to make BookSmart even better than it already is, but I honestly can’t think of a thing! This place is no doubt THEBEST independently owned book store… Great selection of books, but BS is way more than just that — The toys/fun stuff section is the best! I always find the silliest presents for my friends, coworkers, and the kiddos in my life. Oh, the ice cream! How can I forget that? Love the ice cream. For fellow celiacs, the staff is awesome and they really extra extra wash the scoop for me, but be sure to mention it! Many of their ice creams are gluten free, but as always, check ingredients for any changes. BookSmart, never change. You’re perfect the way you are.

One of the best independently owned bookstores I’ve ever been to. Heck, one of the best businesses in Morgan Hill. I had a book signing there a couple of years ago. They could not have been more accommodating. They have an excellent variety of books, magazines AND toys for the little ones. Their ice cream/coffee/treat counter is pretty darn good too. I also like to browse the front of the store where they have the bestseller lists and staff picks with little labels on the books. Very helpful. Yeah Booksmart!

Eclectic, cool(literally — there is an ice cream parlor inside), great for perusing, fantastic customer service and a business very worthy of your support. I have come to Booksmart to find unique, intelligent gifts for the kids. The other day, I found Ebola and E. Coli plush toys — hilarious! I will upload some pics…
