Gen Sushi & Hibachi

Great habachi and quality sushi. Service is wonderful. Definitely recommended! Will be back many times.

This place is probably one of my favorite sushi places! We drive 35 minutes just to come here; and I have 3 sushi places near my house. The food here is like Nobu in New York. I really love this place. Kid friendly! Hibachi chefs are so skilled. But the sushi is what we come for!

Basic sushi joint nothing bad noting great all stuff tastes same just a place to stop and grab a quick bite which is y in not giving it five stars don’t get the sushi combo super expensive and really small, miso soup is fishy. Is anything just try the tempura it’s alright

Wow! Amazing experience and the best sushi I have ever had. As soon as I walked into the place I felt very comfortable. The staff is very nice and made me feel very welcomed. The quality of the food was EXCELLENT!

I’ve been to Gen plenty of times for both lunch and dinner. The service is good and the food is fresh. If you want good, fresh sushi, then Gen is the place for you!

Usually sushi restaurant is not my first choice for a meal. Today came here with a few friends, the food is so impressive. This is a «WOW» restaurant. It is so fresh, every bite is a joy to my palates. The service is nice and decent.

Had a great lunch at Gen. The owner, William, and his staff are fantastic and the food is fresh. They have also taken restroom hygiene to the next level by using Enviro-​Master Services.

Tasty meals! Very nice place for party and fantastic food! Definitely will come back and bring more friends next time! Yummy!

Just had lunch here and left unhappy. From the moment the male host «greeted» me, I could tell this was not going to be a pleasant lunch. He didn’t even say hello, just grabbed one menu and passed me off to a waitress. She seated me in the middle of the restaurant and I politely asked her if I could sit at a booth. She said there’s none available. I pointed to an empty booth and asked her if I could sit there. She said, «No.» I asked, «No?» She asked, «you are only one right? Then no.» Mind you there was a single man sitting at a booth right next to me and the restaurant was NOT full. As much as I wanted to get up and leave I decided to stay because I hadn’t had sashimi since before I was pregnant over 10 months ago and was craving it. No one ever came over to refill my tea. Even at the end instead of asking me if I wanted anything else like dessert, she just handed me the check. I won’t be going back…

This used to be our go to sushi place and we frequently visited at least once a week for a few years. Lately the quality had gone down hill. .way down. The fish is NOT FRESH and several family members have gotten sick on different occasions before we stopped going here altogether. Such a shame.

Me and my family went to this restaurant yesterday for Lunar new year celebrations, we had this iron table, with chef Benny. We had the Sashimi plate and have the lobster, filet mignon and salmon cooked on the iron table. The food is very fresh, Benny cooked on the iron table right in front you, delicious! I asked the beef cooked medium rare, Benny cooked it perfectly, tasty and juicy.
This place have all different choices of food from your daily favorite choices to the little bit more authentic Japanese ones. The layout of the restaurant is good for family, small group as well as a quiet table just for couples. If you are into try the good Japanese food in the northern Bergen, this is the one you won’t want to miss. I give them a 5 star also the services are attentive and very friendly.

I have been here several times and this place never disappoints! Everything is fresh and the service can’t be beat. The owner make sure that everything runs smoothly.

I have been here for lunch before and found the food and service to be mediocre. Yesterday I came here for take out and found the entire experience quite lacking. I ordered 3 specialty rolls, miso soup and seaweed salad. The bill came out to be $ 50, a little on the pricey side. The food was ready quickly but the restaurant was relatively empty. Both miso soup and seaweed salad were on the salty side and the rolls were «fishy». The tuna is definitely not fresh. I found it incredibly disappointing… Will not go back, even if they are the only game in town.

Sushi was not fresh. I’m not a food expert but it was blatantly obvious that the fish was not fresh at all.

Decent sushi but rude Chinese owner. Instructions for making sushi rice are poster on the wall for everyone to see. Bad quality sushi rice! No taste of vinegar. Not sticky. First time I went in I approached the hostess stand and the the Chinese owner hurled a set of keys across the room at the podium, falling on the floor. Obnoxious Chinese posing as sophisticated Japanese. Decent quality but asshole management and not Japanese staff

I’ve been to this place many times before and it is usually good. But, yesterday, my friend and I went there for lunch and both ordered a chicken dish. As soon as I tasted the chicken, I could tell that it was not fresh. It smelled bad and tasted bad too. My friend thought that the food was not fresh, but she finished her lunch. I only had two pieces of my chicken (to confirm that I wasn’t imagining it) and sent the whole lunch box back. When we complained to the waitress that the food wasn’t fresh, she acted like we were making it up and kept asking if I wanted my leftovers to go. Obviously, I didn’t. Despite our complaints they still charged the full (overpriced) price for the food. I’m never going back there ever again.
P. s. My friend called me today and complained that she felt sick all night. That’s is the only reason why I’m writing this.

Between price and the taste, this is really a bad deal. The only reason they are still in business I think is because there is no other Asian restaurant around.
15 bucks for lunch hibachi with 2 protein is definitely not cheap. With that price, I expect at least a decent meal. However, everything we had was salty from Japanese soy sauce. Even drink was overprice — 2 bucks for a can of soda.
May still come back unfortunately since there is no other option in the area… and I work in the area… :(

3 things:
1) I came in on a non busy time. No orders was taken for 20 min…
2) Not authentic and quality is below average
3) Chefs are not Japanese… It’s like going to an Italian restaurant with Russian chefs…
Only positive thing is it’s the only thing that close unless you go to allendale…

Did a to go order because it was late after work one night. Whoever took my phone order didn’t seem to be too enthused and in a hurry to get me off the phone. I showed up to get my order and the place was empty, so not sure why I got the bum rush. The food was pretty decent, I got a few rolls and some appetizers. I was a little taken aback by the sticker price on some items, but I guess that’s what I get for living in Bergen County. Would I go back? Probably not, but that’s just me!

Came for my older brothers Bday, enjoyed the overall hibatchi experience. The chef was pretty lively and prepared the food quickly. I got the chicken/​shrimp with fried rice and noodles. I think they may have went a bit much with the salt, but overall the food tasted pretty good and made me want to return here, perhaps for a lunch.
