We ordered chips and guacamole but our waitress forgot our guacamole. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. The fries were okay considering it’s a Mexican restaurant. My veggies for my burger came out halfway through my meal, which was annoying. My dad ordered his meal with chicken but got steak instead. Moderate food but below average service. Really big menu though, and kind staff. There’s a nice atmosphere.

Completely enjoyable!!! I can hardly believe the terrible reviews. There are a ton of Mexican restaurants in town but far and away, this is the best. It started with great service leading to a wonderful ceviche appetizer. I had the dos paises and couldn’t help but eat it all. The prices are fantastic and a really good Cadillac margarita. Two thumbs up!

A meal to remember takes on a new meaning after a visit at Payares Grill. Holy smokes! We went there for lunch on our way to Denver. It was the only restaurant we saw that was open besides fast food chains. The entrance looked inviting enough, nothing gave away the upcoming disaster. We went out to the patio area and took a seat at table. We ordered pollo asado and a burrito. The chips and salsa were ok, store bought, nothing home made. However, the entries we ordered turned out to be awful. The grilled chicken’s breast was the only warm thing on our plates. Everything else was cold. The rice was bland, re fried beans tasted of cardboard not beans and everything was covered with sour cream and surrounded by grilled mushrooms, which didn’t even go with the rest of the dish. It all seemed precooked and just tossed We should have just returned the order to the kitchen, but we felt awkward and sorry for them I guess. During the meal a man dressed in a ragged, stained or bleached outfit entered the area. We though he was a customer, but he turned out to be a staff member, walking from table to table and waiting on people. Very odd. During the meal we noticed cigarette smell. After inspecting our area we saw a can full of cigarette butts under our table. Yuck!

Mexican done right, we are from Salt lake and this blows all of the mexican joints out of the water over there! The food was well portioned and flavored perfectly. The service was quick, professional, and attentive. Wait times were reasonable and the price far lower than the quality would suggest. This is a must stop for anyone coming through town, and I am jealous for those who have constant access.

We arrived around 1pm on Sunday. We were traveling and did not know the area, we cruised by and found this place. The menu is way disorganized and too many items to choose from. We settled for enchiladas. They were doughy and made with flour tortillas rather than corn. The sauce tasted like tomato juice. The beans were not cooked and were crunchy. The chips were very thick but tasted fine along with the salsa it was okay. I asked for some tortillas and asked for half flour and half corn. She brought out 1 flour and 1 corn. Really? Keep driving. Not worth the stop

Keep driving. We ended up here because our first two restaurant choices were very busy, and we we’re all very hungry. It was about 1pm on a Sunday. About half or less of the tables were occupied, but the hostess acted like it was going to be complicated to accommodate a wheelchair. She seated us, then brought menus. Took drink order. Drinks come, waitress leaves. Eventually comes back for order. It was at this point, after everyone has had 10 – 15 minutes to consider the menu, she informs us they are out of fries. Two in our party order burgers anyway, well done, with hash browns instead. At this point is when she offers chips and salsa. Should have brought that when we were first seated. Chips were chewy. Our food took over 30 minutes to arrive.(At this point there were only a couple tables occupied, about 2 pm). Both burgers were medium RARE, and they looked like the filler-laden ones you buy in a tube at Sam’s Club. The rest of the food was just ‘ok’. We would have been better off waiting for a table at the first place we stopped. They were friendly, and they did take one of the burgers off the bill, but we won’t eat there again, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

We went 2x — not impressed the first time we went for dinner, but decided to go a 2nd time for breakfast. The only positive thing I can say is that we had a good waitress even though we waited over 45 minutes for our food. Certainly not the fault of the waitress. As we were waiting for our food we heard complaints from another table about the ceviche going bad and was sent back. We also noticed dust so thick around our booth that my son actually wrote«clean me» with his finger. Then when our food finally arrived, it did taste good. But the butter served with the pancakes was rancid. The egg dish that I had was very tasty but later that day I had a very upset stomach and I can only attribute this to what I had eaten. Needless to say, w won’t be back. It’s really too bad as so many restaurants have tried to make it at this very ideal location but it may be that another one is going to bite the dust… no pun intended.

Several restaurants came and went in this space during the two years that we lived in Montrose. While visiting after a year of living in Denver, we wanted to give this latest incarnation a shot, hoping that it would be better than the last one. No one greeted us when we came in, despite the presence of a full staff. Only a few tables were occupied, and just as many hadn’t been bussed. Despite having been open for two months, they were still using promo menus. The waitress was quite personable but not terribly organized, and the kitchen was painfully slow. That being said, we had a delicious breakfast. They just need to get their act in gear!
