I love this place. It is basically a little diner with great grub. The Belgian waffles are awesome!

We were looking forward to a good breakfast but we didn’t get it. Walls and floor are very dirty. Service was ok but when I asked for regular tea, it took over 10 minutes for me to flag the waitress down to ask again– they don’t have plain Lipton tea who does t have plain tea at a café?!. So the I asked for coffee instead– got a lipstick stained vanilla flavored old coffee. I like regular coffee not flavored. No cream on the table like the waitress said. Got our food and had a hair in my non-poached eggs(asked for them poached). Pancakes tasted like plastic covered in margarine. Then we asked for water in the beginning and never got them– when we asked again and got them there were chunks of old lemon in the water. We didn’t drink the water. It was a very unpleasant experience. Won’t be coming back. Good luck!

We’ve come here twice in the past week. Once for late lunch and once for breakfast. For our late lunch my daughter had spaghetti, which seriously tasted Really good, I had a quesadilla, which was good, and my wife had eggs and pancakes, which was good too. The only thing that stuck out to me was the spaghetti. For breakfast my daughter wanted a bowl of fruit and I got a waffle. The waffle was really good, nice and crispy(the way a waffle should be! Lol, not like I had at Denny’s!). And the bowl of fruit was really big but my daughter enjoyed it. I heard that they are going to be renovating this place very soon, which would be great. As much as the old school diner look is classic and keeps that homie, small community look, this place doesn’t look like it’s been touched since 1955. Overall, it’s a decent spot. Unfortunately nothing I would go out of my way for, but if I’m in the area, I wouldn’t mind stopping by… I’m looking forward to seeing how it is after renovation!

Went for breakfast. We got our coffees right away. We put in our food order and after about 30 minutes inquired about our order. A server said, it should be out soon. After another 5 minutes we decided to go somewhere else. The place was not very busy and we only ordered waffles. It should not have taken that long. Also, if you’re going to seat people outside in front of your business then clean the front windows and ledges.

I want to give this little spot a better review because the owner was kind. However, my breakfast sandwich was really bad. I doubt if this place provide delicious pastries. I don’t know how this place stayed longer. I’m pretty sure this place needed a huge improvement.

Mostly Montrose area is nice DOG friendly, EXCEPT this restaurant. If you are with your pooch, do not go there! Their patio seating is actually on side walk, not even in their property and CALIFORNIA state law now allow dog(s) at outside patio area. BUT the Owner this restaurant kick you out if you are with dog(s).

Rude service and bad food. I’m all for supporting local businesses and figured this place looked like it would be legit since it’s been there forever. Boy was I wrong! The waitress was surly and got really annoyed when I asked for new waters(which she agreed had something floating in them… notice…plural) and new utensils because they were dirty. Really I should have gotten up and left at that point since the place was obviously not clean… but I thought I would give them a chance. We ordered a variety of food… breakfast, sandwiches, and Mexican food. All were tasteless and completely not worth the price. They had a bunch of food from Smart and Final sitting in the walkway on the way to the bathroom, including potato salad and other stuff that needed to be refrigerated. I was just glad we didn’t get sick that day. Had I wanted bulk tasteless food I would have gone to smart and final myself. Really disappointed and not going back.

I had a gift certificate without an expiration or any restrictions, except that I spend $ 15 on food, & I spent 20. The manager refused to accept it, claiming that the gift certificate could only be used Monday through Thursday, even though I had used another of the exact same gift certificate on a Sunday just a couple of months ago. During my visit, I watched the manager rudely ask guests to get up and move while they brought inventory in through the front door instead of the back. The food here is mediocre, but I have not had a problem with the servers. It is clearly poorly managed, however. That is probably why they had to issue these gift certificates to begin with. I recommend staying away. And, if you have any of these certificates, make sure that they honor them, and if they don’t, then file a chargeback for the amount with your credit card company.

I don’t think so! Bought my son’s first birthday cake on a late afternoon here. Had them write«happy birthday _____» and was charged $ 6 extra but figured«of course I need that». When we ate the cake later that evening it was totally stale… and not just a little stale. Really? What a total disappointment! I don’t think I have ever bought a cake this stale before. it should not have been offered for sale at any price and I paid $ 30. I will not be back there again.

I come here with my brother and his kids for breakfast. Pretty cool spot, everything id expect from a local diner. I can only comment on breakfast because thats all ive tried here. They do have a bakery and have all sorts of cool breads they make, which makes this place a bit more special. Ive even seen rainbow colored slice bread.

Customer Service was good but that was literally the only positive thing I have to say. Let me just say that this is my first experience in Montrose. I went here yesterday with a coworker and my mom and had decided to have a breakfast plate with a lemonade. Breakfast was good but i couldnt depend on my beverage to help the food go down. Got a lemonade — tasted weird; the only way to describe it was it looked and tasted like warm colored water with ice. I thought it was just me so I got a milk instead — bad idea. I took a sip and it had a really bad after taste but I took another because I was thirsty. My mom noticed the yucky faces I was making and I asked her to try it-the milk had gone bad and she described it by saying it tasted like vinegar. If you do come here, be on the safe side and just have water.

Location is great and the servers are really friendly and always remembered us. Food is just ok. The owner doesn’t allow dogs even though they have a big outdoor space. Now we go next door to City Hall Coffee Shop instead.

Ordered eggs Benedict and an omelette with potatoes. They burnt the English muffin yet still decided to serve it since it was covered with ham, poached eggs and sauce(so the chef figured I wouldn’t notice). The potatoes were burnt and tasteless(they sold them as red potatoes, but they looked and tasted like russet). They also got the order wrong as we asked for no onions on the potatoes but they came with onions anyway. Décor was outdated and service just ok. We won’t be going back.

We had the worst breakfast experience today. I ordered a glass of water and after one sip I noticed black specks and a weird green substance at the bottom of the glass We then ordered two egg sandwich plates. It was served on boring plain white toast Barely toasted and tasted like it had mayonnaise on it Really? Mayonnaise? And never asked for a choice of bread And to complete the lameness, pickles were served with the egg sandwich. Really? Who serves pickles at breakfast. An epic and tragic fail. Bad good and caught in a time warp

Ok and edible and service was attentive. Great location. Food was OK. Next time I’ll probably drive over to Jeremys(they have killer omelets) and my order right. Not a big deal but if you ask whether I want onions with my potatoes and I say yes, I guess I expect onions in my potatoes. :)

Food is so so, service is the worst. They don’t allow dog even in patio. This café is the only café in montrose, which doesn’t allow pet. Also owner is not friendly towards skateboarders. That’s funny.

Great freaking carrot cake! And their danish was ok. Stopped by tonight for coffee and some dessert and wasn’t disappointed at all. Coffee refills and a nice Chilean owner make me want to come back and try their food. Some bake goods seem maybe a day old but its not like they are sitting under the sun. Don’t expect fresh on a Sunday or evening because as we all know bakers leave before the afternoon. Will return to try their breakfast options.

Check out this beautiful cake that I didn’t get here because as you all know they can’t make a cake this nice as I explained at this time last year. And as true to form I did not return here to give them another try after the owner Henry wouldn’t make good on the cake he sent me home with last year. If you’d like to know where if got this cake then please email me so I can let you in on the secret place close to Montrose Bakery.

Right in the middle of the main drag in the sleepy town of Montrose is the Montrose Bakery. In my experiences, everyone I’ve talked to calls this neighborhood Glendale and the only time they’ve heard the word«Montrose» is when someone mentions«that bakery… up in Glendale… Montrose… something…» True story. On weekends or around holidays, Honolulu Ave. gets very busy. Other than that, it’s a somewhat slow-paced slice of small town America while being only 20 minutes away from Downtown. Although, every time I’ve driven by, Montrose Bakery is busy with tons of people enjoying their meals on the large patio. Finally, I found some time to stop by for a late breakfast while in the area. We showed up around 1pm on a Friday and the patio was very busy. Then, the stars aligned, and we got a booth inside just after someone else left. Although, we sadly had to deal with the warm seat syndrome. *shivers* The menu has all the old-fashioned American diner fare with every breakfast option you can think of, tons of burgers, sandwiches, and whatever else your heart desires. To satisfy my breakfast AND lunch craving, I went with the breakfast sandwich(sliced ham, fried egg, pickles, lettuce, and cheese on white bread) and a side of sausage. The sandwich was good and never dried out(even when I had the second half for lunch the next day). The staff is very friendly here and also very attentive — keeping my coffee always full. After your meal, be sure to check out the beautiful concoctions in the bakery. I walked away with a couple cookies and a cupcake for later!

Any bad reviews of this place don’t get it. This is not fancy eating. This is not California fusion or some other trendy take on breakfast classics. This is a highway diner, pure and simple. They excel in the pastry department. Their bakery is half the place! But again, its the basics. I WILLSAY… that if you can wait until after breakfast to have your coffee from somewhere else, do it. If you are in the mood for the simple, and maybe you want to have an antagonistic and impatient waitress in your face(I am convinced this helps a hangover), this might be the place for you.
