We have stayed at this hotel for several years, before the remodel and since. The remodel is nice and the rooms are much better looking and comfortable. On the down size the carpets are nasty, in bad need of a shampoo, and in our room the carpet didn’t come together at one of the seams. It us to be pet friendly but now I would give it pet tolerant. OK for the price but no worthy of more than a 3 star.

We were stuck, due to weather, in Montrose and wanted a place near the airport. The area is replete with basic 2 star roadside motels. We happened into this one and couldn’t have been happier with the choice. The room was spacious, clean, warm, and comfortable. It came with free WiFi. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a good shower. The LEDTV worked well. The room also included a small fridge and microwave. The free breakfast was adequate and included an available waffle maker. The person who took our reservation couldn’t have been nicer. Yes, she said, we have an airport shuttle and if the bus bringing you down from Telluride can’t drop you here, go to the airport and we’ll pick you up. It seemed like John, working the front desk, couldn’t do enough for us. For example, when deciding on recommended restaurant suggestions, we asked if a taxi service was available to pick up a take out order. John said, I’ll do that for you. And so it went… whatever we asked or needed, John happily offered his services. And he is not even the owner. He, of course, was the shuttle to the airport the next day… and no, don’t bring you luggage to the office, I’ll drive around to your room to pick you up… Overall, a very nice surprise and pleasant experience. Oh, and it was also very inexpensive… cheaper than the other nearby choices.

A gem — stopped @ two others before finding this gem and glad we did. Perfect location for our forays into the Black Canyon, Telluride, Ouray, Silverton and hiking in the peaks. Clean, spacious rooms. Grounds are well kept and pool was clean & refreshing. Family run and staff was excellent!!! Thank you. Had good meals in Montrose @ Camp Robber(nice patio) & Amelia’s(quiet & tasty), did not enjoy Starvin’ Arvin’s — it was kinda dirty with lots of flies in the window.

Very nice, very affordable. I had a room on the end, with its own little patio. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, shower was hot and had lots of pressure. A little highway noise, and the heater was a bit loud, but those were minor. Breakfast choices were high on carbs, but enough variety to get you going. No sense staying in a chain hotel for almost twice the cost when you can stay in this nice place.

Not a five star but I never stay/pay in a five star unless I have to. Solid motel that I’ve stayed at before…2−3 years ago. It’s a decent place to stay during a mtb’g trip midway between Fruita and Cortez. Clean, no smells and quiet. Thanks Black Canyon Motel.

This place was WAY under priced when we visited! We were so fortunate to get the last room of the night! Staff is very friendly and it’s very clean. Would definitely stay here again!

We absolutely adored this little place! Found a room online and gave then a call upon arriving in Montrose on a Wednesday. He said he could get me a room for that night with a $ 5 fee for the dog. It came to $ 83 after taxes! The room was clean, plenty of clean towels provided along with soaps and shampoos. There was a coffee maker, fridge, and microwave included. The staff was incredibly friendly. We loved the room and the price so much I called before check out and asked if we could stay another night. Montrose was a great hub for our day trips into Ouray and Telluride and you avoid the high costs of those towns. When I paid for our extra night he assured us he would bring more coffee or towels if we needed. There was an outdoor pool and hot tub, which we loved. The grounds were nice and well kept with a small playground, charcoal grill, and a couple picnic tables. Small breakfast including fruit, pastries, bagels and toast, waffle maker, cereal, juice and milk. Coffee too of course! Would totally stay here again and recommend to anyone!

This is our third time staying at the Black Canyon Motel. The place is a great value. Not the best place, not the worst, but a great middle ground of value and comfort. i am not sure why they call the breakfast delux, must be the waffle maker. it is basically cereal, pastries and yogurt. nothing fancy, but suffices. The rooms are clean and decent. The newer two story section has better AC units as in the single story section, the AC unit is basically in the bath area and it struggles to keep it consistent in the room.

I’m a teacher and my traveling companion(mom) works two jobs. We are ALWAYS on the lookout for affordable-yet-clean-and-safe accommodations when traveling. Black Canyon Motel was a terrific value for the price! Checked in intending to stay only one night, and ended up staying for two. The location is very convenient, both within Montrose itself and in relation to the other places we had been/were going to be visiting. It’s pretty basic in a no-frills sense, and seems to be an older property(lighting and décor a bit dated, etc.). However, it has been very well maintained and the room we stayed in was *immaculately* clean. The desk clerk was very friendly and eager to make sure our stay was positive. Our room was spacious, had great pillows, a large flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee pot, as well as reasonably good wifi speed. There are patio chairs and small tables outside the rooms, and we enjoyed sitting out there to enjoy the cool evening air. Black Canyon Motel is also VERY pet-friendly! They have a super low pet fee($ 5!) compared to $ 50 and up at places I’ve stayed in the past and were very accommodating about our dog being in the room with us. Also, they offer a senior discount, but you do have to ask for it when you check in. Since the price point was a huge factor in our choice of lodging, these things were major perks. All in all, we found this to be a great value for cost-conscious travelers. If I’m ever in Montrose in the future I will happily reserve a room here and recommend it to others.

A simple motel. clean. nice staff, low prices and locally owned. They even had a waffle maker.
