«Don’t need teef to eat my beef.” — Big Jim That is on Jim’s truck and his signage. Though I don’t remember beef on the menu. What he does have is pork, lots of tender, tasty pork. Mind you it’s a 20 – 30 minute drive for me to get to Monticello to eat at Big Jim’s BBQ. Stopped in the first time a month or so ago and got a bunch of meat to go. Racks of ribs, pulled pork, Jim was nice as nice can be, was a little upset his help didn’t show up for work. But I understand that. Youth these days. He explained how he had won BBQ contests in the past and he gave me some free sides to go, and to try while I waited for my big order to go. Yes he is in a little run down strip mall on the North East side of Monticello, just south of the drive-in theater, but you know what those are the places you get the best, good, honest food. If I remember correctly another local BBQ(I’ve reviewed them several times) joint may have started in the same place.(Though I could be wrong, I don’t live in or frequent Monticello often.) The meat I took home went quickly and everyone seemed to like it. I stopped again on Sunday and got two racks and an order of rib tips to go. Sauced right, tender and delicious. He gave me a cup of the«HOT» bbq sauce as well, and it is my new favorite. He told me a story how he’d worked with someone from the food network, Rachel Ray I believe. It is mostly takeout as i think there are only 2 – 3 tables with 2 chairs each. If your in Monticello and want some grub. Give Jim’s a try.
