Hen House Broasted Chicken

We have been hesitant to go to the Hen House for the only reason that It just wasn’t that busy and that concerned me. However, we decided to go one evening last week and to my surprise it was pretty good. I believe that the owner is also the cook, server and cashier and once again I was hesitant from the looks of things. The place is quite frankly a hole in the wall but the food was very good. All the sides are home-​aid from scratch and the Chicken was fantastic. The service was as good as I’ve ever received and the multitasking owner should be very proud of what he has to offer. Don’t come to this place expecting fine dinning because it is not. From the generic pop to the drill and screws that laid on the table next to us it’s as far from fine dinning as you can get but well worth the stop. All that is missing from the establishment is put into the food and that’s where it should be. I would give it 5 stars but I do feel that the $ 55.00 we spent for 12 pieces of chicken and sides was a little steep but to be honest the reason I’m even remembering to write this review is because I was just getting ready to go back for dinner. So obviously the price didn’t bother me too much. My recommendation is to give it a shot because I think as it gets more loyal clientele it will continue to get better with time.

I tried the Hen House after they were opened for a month, and I think they have their kinks worked out on the chicken. I ordered the four piece, broasted chicken with two sides — pasta salad and mash potato with gravy. The chicken and sides were ready in less than 10 minutes. In the 10 minutes it took me to get home, the chicken was still piping hot, moist and delicious. I was going to save half of it for lunch the next day, but it was so good, I ate all four pieces. I liked the mashed potato and gravy but not the pasta salad. Just a personal preference. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food I received. From the menu, they have a lot of other chicken items on the menu. Monticello needed a broasted chicken, take-​out/​dine-​in restaurant, and the Hen House delivers!
