****BUSINESSCLOSED???**** Have tried going 2 Friday nights in a row, both times they were closed. Just called today, phone number is disconnected. No activity on their Twitter account. Me thinks they went under. =(

The lack of reviews for this Honolulu transplant surprised me and the original restaurant is wildly popular in Hawaii! So how does this MPK location measure up? For one, the restaurant has a different look and feel. Pretty quiet, dark interior, would be good for a casual date night. There are also several TV’s so you can monitor your fave LA teams… or not(sigh… Lakers…). Menu selection is similar: pretty limited ramen choices, but there’s also the addition of alcoholic beverages(which of course makes everything better, right?!). Definitely hit this place up for their inexpensively-priced happy hour! Now onto the good stuff: Order the Tan Tan Men. Seriously. Do it. I am not even a spicy fan, and I think the Tan Tan Men broth is just so great. I’ve also had the Shoyu ramen and to be honest it’s just okay, not as amazing as I remember it being in the Hawaii location. But for the Tan Tan alone, 4 easy stars! Finally, we also like to order the gyoza, which is pretty standard taste-wise… but we really order it just for the BOMB dipping sauce! The fiancé has been known to actually ask for a separate side of sauce so he can dip his noodles in it(kinda gross, I know!). In the end, Gomaichi is definitely worth a try and my best wishes to the owners– mahalo!

Located on a random stretch of Atlantic, practically hidden from sight, turns out to be this fun and very welcoming Japanese restaurant! They had a live band playing despite how empty it was on a Monday evening. Live music is always a plus! Especially on a weeknight! I had the Tan Tan Ramen which was delicious. The soup had a ton of flavor and just the perfect balance of flavor too. Not your typical Ramen soup, but a welcomed alternative. Noodles were thin yet curly with a bite. Although you can add half an egg for .50c extra, I do wish it just came with it. HH specials run from 5:30pm-8pm daily where you can get a pint of asahi/sapporo for $ 2 – 2.50 or a pitcher for $ 6-$ 7. CAN’T BEATTHEDEAL! Happy to give this place 5 stars for the support and looking forward to coming back soon.

BESTHAPPYHOURPRICES!!! I was previously a customer when this was Tokyo Ramen and when I found out there was a new owner but STILL a ramen place I had to give it a try. First off unfortunately the location is bad. This is what’s keeping this spot from getting customers. The ramen is just right. The food is actually really good. They were offering a variety of sushi rolls but don’t have a sushi Chef right now so the rolls are basic. The place is quiet due to lack of customers, but staff is really nice and helpful w/the menu. My favorite ramen is the Wakame tan tan men. The broth is not too salty and full of flavor! The happy hour beer prices are great! Really cheap, even if your not hungry you can grab some cheap drinks and appetizers. Give it a try, I don’t want to see another local place go out of business

Awesome place. You can’t beat the happy hour! Curry cutlet plate, fried chicken, or the tan tan man ramen are where it’s at!

Some of the items that are posted on Unilocal look so delicious, like the shrimp avacoda sushi and scallops. But it wasn’t on the menu when we requested for it. It’s on their special menu, which is seasonal. We had dinner on a Saturday night and was surprised on how understaffed they were. I felt so bad for the one waitress who was the hostess, server, bartender, busgirl and cashier. All six tables were waiting as she tried to manage to do everything. It turned out we had to wait over an hour for our food. We ended up getting the wrong ramen, not the tan tan ramen with chicken but something else. We ended up eating it anyways, but it turned out it was the other table’s order. Oh well, she mentioned there was chicken somewhere in there. Though it wasn’t the right order, it turned out to be very good. Ramen was definitely 5 stars, but service brought this rating down. Anyone who’s looking to be a server in that area. I’m sure they can use some help! I would give it another shot when I’m prepared to wait that long for ramen.

$ 1 for 16 oz chug of sapporo beer or $ 3 for a pitcher during happy hour, can’t beat the price anywhere. Tried both shoyu ramen and tan tan men, whilst they are good but there is still room for improvement on the broth. Just browsed thru their flagship Unilocal page in Hawaii, I was blown away by authenticity, the ramen choices and mouth-watering sensation which looks like not only a transplanted ramen joint straight out of Japan but also seem to be more pristine than this mainland branch, which to me seems more fusion type. I didn’t get why they didn’t mold this place to be like their Hawaiian counterpart, especially with large population of Asian in Monterey Park.

Love the service and beer! Must come during happy hour! when you come between 6pm to7pm they serve sapporo pitcher for 4 dollars! their spicy tuna roll is huge. my favorite menu is shirimp and vegi fritters. the atmosphere is pretty dark and it is japanese izakaya friendly. it is walking distance from my house so i come often. i wish they extend the open hrs because they close pretty early. no waiting so far so it is neighborhood ramen and beer place!

I went the first day, but I was not too impress about what kind of food they had. It was a fusion Japanese Restaurant, but I had seen over the internet that they changed there menu, so I took my mom and we try it again. This time I loved it. The Shoyu Ramen dashi was the best I have ever taste. It made me want more. We also ordered the curry and that was good. I also order the Fried Chicken, and that was good and fresh. All the items we reasonable priced. I highly recommend this place. Best Ramen in Monterey Park.

Pretty good and authentic ramen and side dishes for cold winter nights! I recommend the tan tan ramen, fried chicken karaage and short ribs. Comparable to Daikokuya but without the wait!!! Restaurant is small but clean~this place needs more visibility! Will definitely come back! It’s my go-to ramen place now!

I came in not knowing what to expect with this restaurant but I can say I was pleasantly surprised. It was lunch hour and nobody was here. I got the Tan Tan Ramen with fried chicken and Japanese style ribs. The ramen broth was tasty. The chicken was like karaage but the menu didn’t have the description. The ribs were really tender with meat easily falling off the bone. I would say the restaurant is similar to Daikokuya but without the wait. It was good enough I came back for dinner the same day. This place does need some more visibility. If you’re looking for a decent ramen place and don’t want wait 30 minutes outside to be seated then come here.

I came here for lunch and had the Tan Tan Ramen. I judge ramen by the flavor of the broth and then by the consistency of the noodles. My ramen passed both. It was early and I was the only one there. I definitely think it’s better than the last owners before. Oh and they take credit cards. So that’s always super convenient. Give it a try!

I’m not sure how to categorize this place. The food is mostly Japanese but some items seem slightly fusion and doesn’t seem to specialize in any one category. The décor doesn’t look very Japanese either. It looks more Italian or French. Curry udon was my favorite out of the three dishes I tried. The noodles were perfectly firm and curry broth had a good consistency, not too watery nor too thick. It comes with some ground beef and two small pieces of fish cake. Seared scallops in butter was good but wasn’t too adventurous. Just some salt and pepper and seared in butter. If you have good quality scallops you can make it at home. Shrimp and avocado pressed sushi looked and sounded interesting but was the least favorite out of the three. I can’t really consider this a sushi since there’s no raw fish in it. It’s more like a cold fried rice made to look like a roll, a square roll. I at least expected them to use the type of shrimp used in sushi but it was the small shrimp you normally use in fried rice. It has shredded egg, wasabi, pickled ginger, and avocado. There really wasn’t anything to give this flavor other than ginger. It was also difficult to eat because they give you two large pieces which can’t be eaten in one bite. You basically have to disassemble and eat it like fried rice. This item came with miso soup which was quite salty. Each dish I ordered was $ 8. Not too bad of a price but the portions are pretty tiny. You will have to eat at least two items to be full. They take credit card payments but do not take American Express. Street parking only.

Great place and mainly Yoshi the head waiter is a blast!!! Now they got really cheap Japanese bottled Beer and also big Beer Pitchers. The atmosphere is a little traditional Japanese and the food looks appetizing.
