Great customer service and great food. Perfect place for families! Best tortas ahogada in LA hands down… tacos de papa con carnitas on top its a whole new level of amazing! Recommended! The wait can take awhile but its worth the wait, the atmosphere is very traditional and will make anyone from Guadalajara feel like home.

I made a point of reading the reviews before coming in. I’m a HUGE fan of tortas ahogadas so I definitely wanted to make sure I scoped this place out. Of course, I have yet to eat authentic tortas ahogadas like they serve in Guadalajara but this place is not as bad as people make it out to be. The location is very visible as it is on a Main Street. They have a huge parking lot plus tons of street parking — so I don’t know how others couldn’t find parking here. The place has a 50’s diner look to it — not very Mexican but whatever. I dig it. The walls are covered in pictures by what I can assume is the owner with many Latino celebrities. There’s a sign at the entrance to wait to be seated but I took it upon myself to sit myself down since the only waitress was busy helping other customers. Another worker stopped by a few minutes later to drop off a menu and some tortilla chips and green salsa. The salsa WAS delicious! A little spicy but still good & tortilla chips needed some salt. The place was fairly empty and a bit dirty– one of the reasons why I didn’t give it 5 stars. It looked like they had just overcome a huge rush and hadn’t quite finished cleaning up the floor or tables. Now on to the tortas — they are their main dish but they do have other options as well. On the menu it CLEARLY asks how you want your torta: Salsa only, Media Ahogada or Full Ahogada. I’m assuming if your torta tasted like tomato sauce, it’s because that’s probably what you ordered. I ordered the media ahogada because from experience, I do know that tortas can get VERY spicy. Tortas ahogadas are very simple– bread, meat, sauce and onions. THATSIT. My food arrived fairly quickly and yes, it was warm and fresh. The onion slices were a bit thick for my taste, but it might be because I don’t even like onion. They waitress also brought out extra hot sauce in case I wanted to add more to my torta but surprisingly enough, the media ahogada is pretty spicy! It took me a while to get through it because my mouth was pretty much burning. The salsa roja had a really good taste to it as well. The bread was also very good. A little note for the ones who complained that it was hard, it’s kind of supposed to be. Tortas ahogadas are made with birote salado that is a lot harder than your regular birote. Reason being, is that you don’t want your torta to fall apart when it gets drenched in the salsa. You’re welcome. This place is honestly not as bad as people make it out to be. Customer service is obviously not one of their strong suits but the ladies here are nice. If you’re looking for a place that waits hand and foot on you then this might not be the best place for you. If you’re here to simply enjoy a good torta ahogada then this is your spot. I will definitely be coming back.

Tortas are good. For me i guess a little plain with only the sauce and the onions but i guess thats the style so thats goos but i prefer a different kind. If like these kind of tortas then go for it they are good. Just not my taste.

For Mother’s Day, the family decided to go have Tortas. We ordered the pork Tortas. This place is about 9 – 10 miles from where we live. I think the food is good if you are in the area. But if you need to drive more than 10 miles, I probably wouldn’t come back. The service was fair, our second order of tortilla chips were burnt.

Came in an had horrible service… They said they didn’t have nothing but tortas because the kitchen was closed. The lady helping us didn’t even bring us a menu. Too bad their food is good but the experience is bad. Won’t be coming here again. The workers look so upset maybe it was just today they were having a bad day.

I did takeout! Wanted to try the traditional torta but the staff said that they didn’t have the meat for it at the moment and that we would have to wait an hour for it! They suggested the chicken torta so we got it! Chicken torta was horrible seemed like the meat was sitting out for a while or just not good. Sad that it wasn’t the best experience.

Don’t come with a group larger than 5. Parking is a struggle. My family waited a hour for a table. For the amount of food and type it’s way over priced. Service needs better training in customer service. I will not be returning.

I went on a weekend, so there was a 35 minute wait. Service was good. I’m not Mexican, so it was my first time trying the«Tortas ahogadas.» I wasn’t very impressed. The chicken tasted old and rubbery, pretty nasty. It was covered up by the ton of sauce(sauce was ok). The bread was extremely hard. Michelada was ok. I wouldn’t go again.

This place is good. The food is good. But the food doesn’t taste like the food made in Guadalajara so don’t say that it does.

I ordered the carnitas torta ahogada, it was good, but the bread was a little too hard for my taste! The ambience is ok didn’t have to wait to be seated, the waitress was nice.

I hope they change their bolillo provider, cause I felt like a dog eating jerky. The sauce could not soften the bread fast enough for me to enjoy my torta. My dad asked for a knife to try to cut through the torta, and the bread was so hard the knife didn’t even make a dent.

We traveled far to bite into a torta ahogada at Chago’s. My boyfriend told me so much about it. He was thrilled to take me miles and miles away from home to taste the«authentic» torta ahogada. He was certain I would love it and had never tasted anything like it before. Well, he was right about one thing. I had never tasted a torta ahogada like that before… It broke my heart to utter«I don’t like it». I didn’t finish my torta and I basically waited for him to finish eating his so we could leave. A torta ahogada should not taste like tomatoe sauce out of a can. Nonetheless it should not arrive to your table cold. I think that’s what made it taste even worse. When I bit into it, I was afraid my teeth would loosen up. The bread that was being used was tough like rubber. I honestly only got one bite out and left it there. I was so disappointed… Yet I opened it up to see if the carnitas would at least make it up somehow. They tossed three little pieces of meat in there. And they weren’t good either. Sigh. I had enough and awaited my boyfriend to finish his meal. He seemed very sad that he had talked me up into coming and I didn’t even eat my food. I couldn’t. I was sad too, this place is supposed to be some legend. The waitress was nice but did not seem to care that I did not enjoy my food. The least she could have done was ask, like every establishment asks if the food was OK. Won’t be coming back here to try other food. Torta ahogada is supposed to be their specialty. Hmph.

Pues no no no! Sorry but no thank you.

Their tortas are great! Very authentic Guadalajara style. I ordered the media torta(half tomato sauce half spicy) it was SUPER spicy! Next time I will be having it with the spicy sauce on the side. I am also not a huge eater and their tortas are quite big so I asked for half the torta to-go. I would give them 5 stars but their customer service has potential for improvement. It took us longer to get our check than it did for us to eat our meal. I had to go to the register myself and pay the balance.

I love this spot when I’m craving a torta ahogada or some tacos dorados, especially when I’m looking for that homemade cooking type of feel. I haven’t tried the other dishes they have here but I’d say they’re most commonly known for their tortas which are so good! I recommend getting it «solo salsa» style which is just with the warm tomato sauce as the chili sauce they add aside to that is super spicy. They offer different beverages, I opt for a delicious horchata when I want down thing a bit sweeter. The owners are kind and waiters are gracious about your needs. They always have some Latin music playing which I enjoy to add to that good feel vibe.

Amazing authentic food straight from Guadalajara. However, this place is always packed which is a good sign but the service unfortunately isn’t as good as their food. Verrrrrrry slow and had to ask for the bill 3 times, took 13 mins to stand in line to pay the bill… so tempted to walk out but that would be unethical!

I first had these Tortas at the LA sports arena when they catered to the stage workers and AV techs setting up a concert for the radio station LA Raza. These Tortas were the bomb I can’t begin to say how much other places have lied to me with their imitations because this place makes the real deal. I happen to know the man who managed Vicente Fernandez concerts and his wife introduced this place to him and its their personal favorite Torta place. (Service) was top notch I didn’t have to wait long to be helped out what ever I needed I got. I count ask for more help if I could because I didn’t need to ask. (Ambiance) it’s a nice bright place, it had an old school diner appeal to it with two Flat screen tvs playing Latin artists singing or futbol. (Food). The Tortas are meant to be drenched in a sauce. They are originally just dunked in their hot sauce come in three different but they have different styles to accommodate the non spicy people. spice levels 1. Ahogada(spicy) 2. Media«medium» Ahogada(half sauce/hot sauce) 3. Just sauce. Other than the Tortas their potato tacos are pretty bomb and crispy. You could add lettuce and onions to it highly recommend at least one. Just a little history Tortas Ahogadas are traditionally supposed to be dipped into hot sauce its about the spiciness. The tomato sauce dip is to water down the hot sauce if you got anything less than Ahogada spicy for those that can handle the traditional heat experience but maintain the tomato flavor of the hot sauce. The Tortas bread is supposed to be tough and crisp for one reason it keeps the Torta together for a longer period of time than a soft piece of wonder bread so don’t get upset about it being tough its supposed to be like that and to be honest who really wants a soggy Torta really? If you don’t like onions thats ok don’t get any the hot sauce is supposed to be strong and the onions are almost like a balancing act just put some lemon on it and it works out so well. I have too many reasons to come back. I’ll be back.
