We ordered the veggie bowl with an extra poached egg on top($ 11.95 + 1.50) and spinach quinoa salad($ 9.95) First of all the place is way too pricey for the quantity they serve. The taste is nothing to go gaga about. It’s healthy and fresh. The worst part were a) the poached egg looked like only the egg yolk without the white portion and b) the spinach quinoa salad came without any quinoa! And to top it all we weren’t even told about it. We just happen to notice it while eating. Then asked the lady who was taking orders and serving about it. She checked back in the kitchen and told us that actually they are out of it but the kitchen crew did not tell her. Way to run a business. I can take bad tasting food but not dishonest serving. 2 stars for her offering to pay us back half of the payment or brown/white rice or bowl of potatoes. We ended up with the potatoes.

I came out here with my girlfriend for a girls day out. The owner is welcoming making it feel like you are walking into a family members home. I ordered a chai latte ok so it wasn’t the best latte but I really loved the food, location, and staff! The café is not huge but there is plenty of parking within the café and on the street. There is a window you can enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean but not much of a view can be seen from any other areas of the restaurant. Highly, highly recommend Montara Café & Bakery!

The food on the menu looks good, great ideas and combinations. But in reality — no taste, too oily, even condiments didn’t help.

A cute looking place right of the freeway. Friendly service with a smile. But that’s where the good ended and the«meh» begun. We ordered various breakfast bowls and freshly squeezed juices. It took a while for our orders to arrive. The food was very bland. Salt, pepper and a touch of ketchup helped very little. Carrot juice was fine but almost warm. Hm, and $ 20+ for bowl+juice combo seemed pricey given the absence of flavor.

This place is a little off of the beaten path, but totally worth it. It’s between Half Moon Bay and Pacifica, so you have to know that it’s there. But the trip is worth it. Good coffee, good food and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Plus, it’s very vegan friendly. Give it a go, the next time you are traveling HWY1!

A funky local haunt with a sprinkling of tourists. Solid food, good coffee and fresh juices. My favourite is the huveos rancheros for breakfast. Always a friendly local vibe, small and intimate, expect a wait if they are busy as everything is cooked fresh to order.

I don’t know why this place gets such high ratings. Perhaps it’s because there are no better options? The décor inside is cute, but the coffee is worthless and the food is average. The baristas are not baristas, the coffee drinks are mediocre to poor with over steamed milk and poorly pulled espresso shots. A Nespresso machine is better! I have tried this place multiple times and I have finally convinced myself it’s not going to change. Save your money and drive to Salada in Pacifica, to date that’s the only place that has decent food and espresso based beverages in the area.

After a mediocre brunch, we decided to relax at a café. It was raining and I was craving a hot beverage. Tucked away from the main road, this café is very small and homey. We were past breakfast/brunch time and most parties were finishing up. I ordered the Aztec Mocha, which was pretty much like a hot chocolate. It is made with chocolate, Mexican chocolate and espresso. My drink was perfectly chocolaty and not overly sweet. Boyfriend ordered the beet, orange and carrot juice. They had run out of oranges and substituted with apple, which was fine. Served in a cute mason jar, the juice was surprisingly very light and sweet. At first it tasted like a lot of vegetables, but after the second sip I decided that I really liked it. It also had a beautiful red/orange color to it. Overall this café was adorable and relaxing. The staff was also very nice. You could tell they enjoyed working there and put a lot of care into making their food and drink. If a friend was in the area, I would recommend this lovely little gem. Finally stopped in to check out the croissant at Montara Café & Bakery. The croissant is made on site and I have to say it really shows care. If you are a croissant snob and can ignore the higher than average price of this coastal croissant then I highly recommend Montara Café & Bakery as one of you morning source for a perfectly flaky and layered butter croissant. Price of their almond croissant is currently $ 3.00. Not a high price for pastry of this quality in SF. But definitely more than many other locations. After eating this perfectly laminated, stuffed and topped creation I say it is worth the price. $.50 cents lower and I would be completely satisfied. Based on the quality of the croissant I will be back to try other items. I might even stay to enjoy the meal next time. The fact they have indoor and out seating in the lovely Montara area of the the coast will not be lost on anyone stopping by. On my stop I also noted open mic days and times. So dinner here must also be an option. I’ll save the rest for later as I am sure I will be back again. Hopefully to award another star in the future.
