I really want to like this place. It is ideally located and has so much potential. It’s been renamed the Mayan. You’d think perhaps it refers to the food or décor? You’d be wrong. They serve Louisiana type food, fried, fried, and fried… cajun. And good luck ordering something on the menu. They seem to be «out» of a lot of the food. The bartenders are good. Great actually. Friendly, not too talkative but just the right amount. The problem is the rotating menu, and poor service. The young ladies stand at the hostess booth and don’t really wait on the customer. You’d be better to sit at the bar if you want service. Twice when we’ve gone, the«manager» has been standing outside smoking on his cell phone. So he isnt helping his staff do a better job. I hope this place can pull it together. We have a regular group that goes out in Monrovia and it would be nice to add them to the list.

I went to the soft opening for the restaurant with my daughter and her family last night. Wasn’t busy i think there were maybe 6 total in the restaurant area. All I can say we won’t be back. 1. Need to have staff that can speak and understand English 2. Need to know what types of beer they serve 3. Fish and chips was just like you would get from Long John Silvers from the freezer section in the grocery store 4. Had to ask for napkins and silverware(which was plastic) 5. Took over 20 minutes for my grandson to get his hamburger, we had to ask about it and they didn’t even offer to remove from bill 6. Son in law had a steak which was as thick as the sole of a shoe 7. One waitress had fuzzy slippers on(really) you want customers to take you serious with this 8. They brought out all 5 meals separately couldn’t bring out all at once I would give zero stars if I could.

I’ve known of this property for 30+ years. When the Brass Elephant bar was open I’d stop in for a drink every so often. I’ve been looking for a barber shop that was friendly and clean and the barber shop here meet and exceeds all of those criteria. For several years, I frequented a barber shop in Las Vegas that was miles from my home and inconvenient to reach. But the conversations were great the hair cuts were even better. For now, I’ve found my new barber shop, even though it’s even further from my house than one in Las Vegas was…

.., I dig this place, as a bar. Not as a hotel, not yet at least. My friends & I all met up here for some drinks one night & I had a blast. The set up is indeed historic, but it sets up the whole vibe. We arrived @ night so from what I had seen, it looked cool. There’s a smaller bar area that had a really great classic rock cover band. Then it wraps around a lounge room w/chairs/couches(makeout room?) to a karaōke room thats bigger w/another bar on that side as well. They charge by the hour for rooms here so I can see potential trouble, but it is cool if you want to sober up & crash for a minute I suppose. The crowd here was another thing. We were the youngest ones here in our early 20’s. Then the age jumped up to 40ish & above. The people here ranged from bikers, randoms, & couples. It was really diverse, really. But we had ourselves a good time. I want to check out the rooms during the winter since they don’t have any a/c at all.

I can’t imagine one reason why I would ever consider sending someone here to stay. We went here for the first time this Saturday to get a drink and sing some karaōke. Let’s just say, it scared the living daylights out of me. It was dirty, skanky and I saw a cockroach crawling across the floor. Though I have never seen the rooms, I can only imagine it can be rated as a hotel that is equal to those that charge by the hour. And, I’d expect to find used needles under sheets. Yeah. It was that bad.

don’t stay here any month when it could potentially be warm. none of the rooms have air conditioning. they want to preserve its historic qualities. i think it’s a little dumb since it can get to be over 100 degrees on any given summer day. which means it’s at least 20 degrees warmer especially in a room on the second floor. there’s a ceiling fan in the room and they provide you with an upright fan. the aztec is like a plaza, they have a restaurant, bar, gift shop, barber shop, etc. on the front side of the hotel so it gives you something to do during the daytime. it’s also less than half a mile to downtown monrovia where they have antique shops, unique cafes, and nice restaurants. +historic + within reasonable distance to the Santa Anita Racetrack, Westfield Shopping Mall, and downtown Monrovia -/+ they don’t offer free wi-fi, but you can still catch a connection — can get really loud at night because of the bar/restaurant downstairs — all rooms are upstairs — no AC
