Went there with some friends on a Saturday night. There wasn’t anyone there. The service was just okay, but the food was great. Loved it. One of the chefs brought us out a potential new menu item to try for free and was really sweet. We enjoyed it!

This place is a hidden gem. Soooo was not feeling a trip to Alhambra for Cajun seafood. Got a lobster and dungenous crab, king crab, and shrimp. The people are super friendly. Even though they seem to be training it was nice that they asked me to verify my bill was ok and then we paid. The wait is about 15 minutes for take home food. Nice bar area and gentlemen… Gotta say this might just be the spot to go if you are looking for company. The music is on point with some R & B. Tip #1 Not many people come here so don’t worry about lines. Tip #2 Everyone is super friendly and right now they are giving 20% off your bill for any food you order. Tip #3 Tip, tip, tip. The people here do a great job so don’t be cheap on the tip because this will encourage them to keep the great service. Summation: This is an overall good spot to hit up. The people are friendly and they do their best to keep you happy. A good bar and singles spot but also good for family. I really encourage people to come to this spot.

I must say by far this place is great to come for some great drinks and food. The happy hour are between 3−6pm and the bartender J. R treats you very well and the vibe is great. The lobster was amazing and I enjoyed the idea that there’s almost 6 tvs. It has history and is haunted as well :)

Craving for Cajun food and found this place on Unilocal! Before coming, read some Unilocal reviews, which have mixed reviews so we decided to try this place out. Came here this evening with family, and we were the only table. The bar though have a few guests. So here is the overall on why I gave this place a 4 stars: Place — nice, and clean = **** Service — so so. Waited for 10 minutes to have someone to refill our water = *** Food — **** we ordered our usual just like we were at any Cajun place in the SGV area(3lbs shrimp with corns and sausages with Cajun flavor. Cajun fries, calamari, half shell oysters, and fried chicken). The food taste just like those places(B Crab and Boat House) that I have been to in the SGV area. We are glad that we discovered this place and don’t have to drive to SGV when we are craving for some Cajun seafood. Mayan Bar & Grill, we will definitely be returning soon!!!

OMGoodness … this place is terrible. The food is a C– at best and is served at your table in segments(Instead of all parties getting their food at even close to the same time.) The server, although sweet, could not speak English very well and does not eat seafood to make needed recommendations on the various menu items(which is the main food item served.) And for those who do not LIKE seafood, the burger comes only with American cheese, they don’t have bacon, pickles or onion rings, and is flavorless and dense. The fish and chips were below average(tasted like fast food out-of-a-box), and the crawfish was completely unspectacular to say the least with no depth of flavor. Save your money and your stomach and steer clear of this heartbreaking disappointment for our community. They should switch the menu up fast and move to something similar in quality to Rigos right down the street.

My first Unilocal review. Just came here and the Cajun king crab legs and shrimp was amazing and they have other items. Hubby got the steak and he loved it because he didn’t feel like cracking crab legs open lol. The menu has a lot of options of food types. The prices are great. They also have a nice bar and good music playing through out the restaurant. The customer service was on point. I’m definitely coming back.

I really wanted to like this place but my initial experience here was lack luster. 1st off the façade does not match the interior. It’s nowhere near a Mayan theme. But hey maybe the food is better… well not really as this is a poor attempt at the asian/Cajun themed«Boil» restaurants. Selection of food even if they actually had all items on the menu was just haphazardly put together with single word items without descriptions. It’s evident these folks are not restaurateurs! We had the fried rice(at the recommendation of the bartender), sausage and bbq mussels in an attempt to make our own gumbo style rice but that proved futile. Considering it’s Asian owned you would think bomb fried rice but definitely not, hint don’t use broken grain rice as customers are not peasants. Sausage was from Hillshire Farms and the mussels were slightly broiled not BBQ’d. This place is a definite PASS! 3 stars is for the unique façade and the bartender as she made an effort to make our visit pleasant. The other waitress had no clue on how to use a wall mounted bottle opener!!! The guy showing her how to use it should have said, See that on the wall… First bang your head on it then…

I went to the soft opening for the restaurant with my daughter and her family last night. Wasn’t busy i think there were maybe 6 total in the restaurant area. All I can say we won’t be back. 1. Need to have staff that can speak and understand English 2. Need to know what types of beer they serve 3. Fish and chips was just like you would get from Long John Silvers from the freezer section in the grocery store 4. Had to ask for napkins and silverware(which was plastic) 5. Took over 20 minutes for my grandson to get his hamburger, we had to ask about it and they didn’t even offer to remove from bill 6. Son in law had a steak which was as thick as the sole of a shoe 7. One waitress had fuzzy slippers on(really) you want customers to take you serious with this 8. They brought out all 5 meals separately couldn’t bring out all at once I would give zero stars if I could.

Seriously! They served us our greasy crawfish in a clear plastic bag with paper plates! We spend $ 9.99/lb. for crawfish we better have real plates to eat off of! DONOTWASTEYOURTIMEORMONEYONTHISPLACE!

Wow… just…wow. After driving by for a couple of weeks, and noticing the sign, we thought we’d try it, only to find something’s seriously off the mark. After learning they ‘were out’ of the several things we wanted, the three of us settled for fried scallops, fish and chips, and the NY steak. My wife’s scallops(or, should I say ‘scallop’), appeared to be one jumbo scallop, cut into six sub-miniature strips, which were so over-fried as to be inedible. The fish(fish and chips) gave the appearance of store bought Van De Kamps style fish sticks. They were undercooked AND freezer burned. I was served ranch instead of tartar sauce. And, no malt vinegar. The sweet potato fries were freezer burned as well. Our friend’s steak was cooked well, but absolutely no seasoning. Side of steamed broccoli, nothing else. No salads, potato, or any other sides that would typically go with steak. The upside is, someone’s done a very nice job renovating the space. The bar is well done. The servers were very nice(though they seemed confused and at a loss to answer a number of questions). And, during what they claim to be a «soft opening», the meals were discounted 20%. Also, the(regular, not the sweet potato) fries were good. Not trying to ‘talk trash’ here… I am seriously glad to see someone investing in the old Aztec Hotel, and would very much support a good restaurant in this location. Sadly, there seems to be a real lack of focus in this effort; the name ‘Mayan’ alludes to something Central American, at least in my mind. There is, however, nothing ‘Mayan’ or Central American on the menu, rather some sort of half-hearted attempt at what I can only describe as ‘Cajun’/pub food fusion. As for the ‘soft opening’, they claim to still be ‘working things out’, but I’m more than a bit confused as to how this works to their benifit with the entire process in such disarray. I really hope they sort thing out, but after our experience, we’ll pass.

Oldie but Newie! New bars are always the best. It’s all a learning experience. This one is great. Love the new chill atmosphere. But just know it’s asian owned. Cajun seafood menu. Food unknown at this time. But if you Wana good friendly drink this is the place!!!

The Cajun seafood fried rice is delicious. The drinks are strong and cheap. The bartender Christian is very accommodating to whatever you need and is pretty well-versed in mixology. Different vibe from the brass. But music is great, food is good, drinks are strong: what more do you need?

THISISNOT A MAYANTHEMEDRESTAURANT!!! Just an FYI — the name might imply some sort of Mayan-themed food experience, but it’s just there because it’s a historical site and I guess they can’t change the name. Anyway — I came here with my family, because the space has been closed for what seemed like an eternity and now that it was open we had to try it. We walked in not realizing it was a shrimp/crab boil type place. The truth of where we were eating was a bit of a surprise, but in the best possible way — because I love(repeat, LOVE) those types of restaurant. The place is decently sized, and does in fact have a large bar in the middle. They serve all kinds of alcohol, but for me only beer goes with shrimp/crab/crawfish. We ordered a round of beers, regular fries, cajun fries, sweet potato fries AND lots of seafood(1lb of crawfish, 2lbs of crab and 4lbs of shrimp). The seafood comes in bags steaming in their own juices(a sentence that doesn’t always sound so appetizing, but trust me — ITIS). We tried both the cajun and the house special in medium and spicy — both were very good. The spicy level isn’t intense, but it does give a little bit of a kick. We also added corn and sausage to one of the bags, because REASONS! Overall, everything was really good. Great food, good service, no waiting AND for their soft opening(which I guess this was) you get 20% off everything on the menu #sweet. Note: like all other restaurant of this type, you eat with your hands and get VERYMESSY. They are very good about providing napkins, gloves, bibs, etc., but know that you probably won’t escape without a stain somewhere on your clothes + the fact that you’ll smell like cajun spices for a solid three days afterwards. I’ll definitely be going back soon. Stay Cheerful ;)

Newly renovated Cajun restaurant and bar. More of a modern restaurant than the old brass elephant bar. Nice upgrades and very clean. The Bartender(JR)? Is a really nice guy and welcoming to the new establishment …

These are the things to know: 1. If you dig on Cajun-style shellfish by the pound restaurants, you owe it to yourself to try this place out. It’s flavorful, reasonably priced, and happy hour deals are LEGIT. Half off drafts, WHAT? 2. Food came out quickly and as expected. Me and the Mrs. got Cajun fries, 1 lbs each of shrimp and crawfish in their Cajun mild, 1 lbs of mussels in lemon pepper, and a half dozen oysters. 3. Flavored were outstanding not too salty. Great level of spicy, lotsa woooo! Oysters were fresh, sweet, and meaty. Cocktail sauce was on point as was the horseradish(not cream, but sauce). 4. Happy hour beers were great. I don’t know what the previous reviewer was unhappy about: wifey and I were more than satisfied. 5. We didn’t order anything else off of the pretty extensive menu, but it looked like bar and grill fare with some higher end touches. I’d try it if the Cajun style shellfish weren’t so flipping tasty. 6. No wait. Ample parking. Those of you who have suffered through the DMV-like wait as I have for comparable spots in Alhambra know what I’m saying. Almost worth it for this alone, fam! 7. It’s a soft open. They’re still figuring stuff out. Have a little patience. Come out and support, y’all! This side of the SGV needs more spots like this!

Came for dinner during their soft opening and all food is 20% off & happy hour is 3 – 6 everyday(½ off draft beers). Its not a fancy seafood spot, more like a caual seafood and beer kind of place. You get seafood by the pound and pick the type of spices you want and then what level of heat you like. I got 1 pound of shrimp, house special seasoning, mild with potatoes and sausage. Everything it cooked together and put in a bag full of spices… you get a bib and some gloves and you’re ready to dive in. The food was delicious, service was pretty good(im sure they are still learning) and I would definetly come back again. This place is alot like The Boiling Crab so if you’ve never been to a place like this just be aware the shrimp come whole(head, shell, tenticles, etc) so you have to pull all that off before eating… its worth it! Tip — spice level is pretty spicy. Mild is more like Medium and Medium is probably Spicy… i would stay away from Xtra Spicy for sure
