This is a re-posted review, so I apologize if things have changed. I wrote my review under the previous store(Solid Ground Coffee and Tea) since in July 2014, when searching Unilocal for a local coffee shop ‘Solid Ground…’ came up and sounded just the job so we visited. When we arrived at the destination, the store front said ‘Sugar and Slice’. This is what I wrote following that visit in July 2014: I was in the area and used Unilocal to find a coffee shop. It seems that this changed hands in early July 2014, and is now called Sugar and Slice. Coffee shop with cupcakes. Not the best, which is a shame, as I would like the owners to succeed. The cupcakes were OK, but when I ordered lattes, they had to go out an buy milk… Really…did they not expect to use milk? Would you not expect to get through quite a bit of milk in a coffee shop? After a wait, the lattes arrived. Not very much taste. Overall, not much atmosphere in the place, and on a hot day in July, the a/c made the experience a very frosty one. Wish I had better things to say about Sugar and Slice…

I’m happy this place opened because there’s finally a place to get REAL coffee in SML. No, I don’t want that Bojangles nonsense. That’s brown water. My brother and I tried the pumpkin pie coffee at Thanksgiving, and later I had the oatmeal Christmas cookie. Both yum. I don’t need flavored coffee every day, but it’s a nice treat. The second time I went, the oatmeal Christmas cookie wasn’t even brewed; they made a fresh pot for me! The cupcakes are awesome, and so far my favorite is the mint cookie. The scones were also yummy. I liked the sausage puffs, but I can only do a couple because they’re a little heavy. Lastly, I had the pork BBQ sandwich and was totally blown away. I didn’t think cheese would be good on it, but I was oh so wrong. The Texas toast it’s on is an extra decadent touch. This is not a diet sandwich, so if you’re counting calories, I would share. The only down side I would say, as others have commented, is that service isn’t the speediest. I’d love to stop in for a quick cup of coffee to go in the morning, but I don’t get the impression that would work out. However, if you can take your time, you’ll be well rewarded by the good folks here.

I’ve really had high hope for this place, especially since it’s so hard to find quick and tasty joints here at the lake. The first time I came in I was thrilled! Tasty food, great selection and service. The next two times — not so much. I waited for over 45 minutes just to get my order. Ok — I can be patient right? The next time was super disappointing. I arrived at 8:45 and was craving a cinnamon roll and sausage puffs. They didn’t have cinnamon rolls and sausage puffs were a 30+ minute wait. I ended up grabbing some sandwiches and bummed. So to summarize: good food, but plan for a long wait and limited selection.

Ordered frozen themed cake, it was late had to wait an extra hour and a half, the cake looked thrown together and was clearly smaller than expected for a 50 dollar cake. Save your money and make your own. But if you want a cupcake they seem OK.

Stumbled onto this place by accident while on a visit to my dad’s lakehouse and so glad I did! This was the BEST iced coffee I’ve ever had. And the scones! Omg literally so good, soft, not too sweet. I wish I lived near here so I could go every day. I will definitely make this a must next time I visit the area.
