The original location in Modesto. It’s right on the strip, since back when they were cruising hot rods here. It was all depicted in the film American Graffiti. Yep, dollars to donuts that Mr. George Lucas himself enjoyed a dog here when he was a kid/in high school/attending MJC. Dollars to donuts that all 3 are the case. The A frame gets me. Gets me all nostalgic. You actually drive through the building if you do the drive-thru. Cool that. Outside seating only. It’s walk up & order at the front window, or the drive-thru…that’s it. As far as fast food goes, it is what it is. The corn dogs are great, but I came just for the holiday candy cane milkshake. It’s pink, pepperminty, & christmasy; the definition of a Christmas time treat. And it is, unsurprisingly, delightful. I do have to mention the bacon ranch chili cheese fries, though. A godsend during shark week. Remember this, ladies! 4 stars.

This place is so cute! The worker who has served me multiple times is so sweet and helpful, and all the times I go it’s during my break at lunch rush. Highly recommend them. And their chili dogs are bomb

Went here for the first time to grab some lunch around 11. First off the eating area was well maintained. There was tall gentleman there who took my order. He was very friendly and took his time to figure out what I wanted. The female manager there handed my order and was very polite. I recommend this spot for anyone looking for the freshest fast food in terms of hotdogs! ! !

First thing I noticed, pretty dirty. Food was not good and the guy at the window was like had no time to even answer a question. For two chili dogs with onions a large fry and a diet pepsi which he upgraded to large without even asking, was almost ten dollars… that will be the last cent that they will get from me… It was really bad. Quality of the hot dog itself was like the weiners you buy at a dollar store, come on, it used to be a great place to eat, not any more and not cheap, the only thing that is cheap is the quality of the food.

Good food and Great people. The prices seem high, but that is only due to the economy and inflation. The food is good even tho it takes a little longer to make then most other fast food places, but that is only due to the food being made fresh to order.

These old A-frame buildings are fun. In fact, they are probably the first thing I remember about Southern California from movies and TV shows. The drive-thru is in the center of the building and there is only seating outdoors. Walking up to the window, there are many options on the menu, including hamburgers and pastrami. I chose the chili dog, corn dog combo. It’s not exactly cheap but the taste is good. The service was friendly, and they have Mountain Dew available. I’m not sure if they had Tastee Freeze ice cream at this location. It wasn’t long for the food to arrive. It seems strange that the kitchen is apparently in the back, separated from the food assembly area. Being that the tables were outside, I expected them to be icky, but they weren’t so bad. It would be difficult to tell how long ago they were cleaned, if ever. The food was hot, hot, hot. It was also good, good, good.

Well its a Wienerschnitzel, food is good and service is timely. Cute retro building with outdoor seating drive through and walk up window only. The only issue I have had is that the last couple of times I have gone there they have had a sweepstakes where you peel a sticker off their medium cup to win. Now I wanted a root beer float but in the medium cup, so my son could peel the sticker to try an win the motocross trip, not really a big deal but to an 8 year old it kind of is. So go figure this was not something that could easily be done from them, both times I went there. To ask for a root beer float in a medium cup thats it! I understand that there probably wasn’t a button for it on the register, but you would figure the staff could easily say, you can order ice cream on the side and then we could prepare it for you,(which wouldn’t have been a problem) but I guess thats not easy as it sounds… Tisk tisk

When eating at Wienerschnitzel I always choose this location. They service has always been good and the food is excellent. They make the best chili dogs. The food never taste right at the other Modesto locations.

I’m not sure how or why people are complaining about the food quality here. They run a very tight ship and as such they don’t make your food until you pay. This minimizes product loss for them but does increase your wait time. I’ve had some mixups in the drive through but the management has always been beyond friendly to me and remedied it. This is fast food but as fast food goes its served hot and fresh. If you have an issue, speak with Michelle or the owner and they’ll rectify it. My biggest complaint is that homeless people hang out here and will bother you while you’re there. Not cool. My other complaint is they make you sign the receipt if you pay via credit card even if you spend just a few dollars. This means they won’t make certain foods like corn dogs, ice cream treats, french fries, and drinks until after you pay in the drive thru. I guess there were a lot of people who came here, bought lots of food, then had the charges on their credit card reversed. This forced Weinerschitzel to enact the sign the receipt or we don’t make the food policy. This is definitely the freshest food I’ve had at any Weinerschitzel. The regular pricing is a bit expensive but they give coupons out and will let you use multiple coupons on each visit.

Pepsi was kinda weird tasting. I liked how they seemed to really cook there food an the desserts are delicious. I suggest definitely try the dipped ice Cream cones. The prices are a little higher than the other one on mchenry. I love the seating area with a nice view to people watch. The water and chili cheeseburgers are delicious. The employees are always friendly too. I also like that they’re open till midnight.

I think this is the only place I have eaten and loved the same chili dog for over 40 years. This is Modesto’s Original and was here during the era that George Lucas portrayed in American Graffiti.

I’ve never reviewed a fast food joint before. Well, that’s not true. I used to be a restaurant critic. Not really. I was a secret shopper. Pretty posh gig, really. I got paid to eat, rate food, check the restaurant for cleanliness, and grade the staff on their customer service skills. That, and the fact that I used to own my own restaurant gives me some bit of creed. With that, I want to share with you my experience at the McHenry Weinerschnitzel. Taref(oops – that doesn’t sound right) was just over-the-top friendly. There were five cars in front of me, but they moved very quickly. Taref was very professional while taking my order, then just before I arrived at the window, he came out and delivered my order to me. Service with a smile. What a pleasant surprise. He was very attentive, genuinely friendly, and oh, my food was hot, fresh and a great value, to boot! I think I noticed that he was a manager. If that’s the case, I’d say it’s a good sign. Give this little hot dog spot another chance. You won’t be disappointed!
