Miki Japanese Restaurant

I really liked the vibe here, very chill and the food was amazing. I would come back for my birthday:)

Attentive waitstaff, Candy Cane roll with no roe. Never have had to wait. Seems to be one of the few places open on Sunday.

This place is slower than cold molasses. Not even busy in here, mediocre service. waited too long for food

Updating due to all five us getting sick and vomitting after eating here… It took two hours to complete our order of food, server forgot our sake and the sushi chefs were drinking and one of them smoked weed and was being very loud and proud of being high at work (which I wouldn’t have minded if our food didn’t take two hours with three customers in the entire place). This joint used to have great service, what happened. Fire your chefs and get new staff.

Happy hour sushi is amazing and I have yet to find a place that beats it in Modesto. So many places use happy hour as an excuse to have boring, cheap rolls. Miki’s definitely does not!
Décor is beautiful, staff is very accommodating and attentive. I don’t think I have ever waited more than 2 or 3 minutes for a refill on a drink.
Pro tip: Definitely ask for your edamame grilled with red sauce. It is to die for!

You would figure that after years of bad service and the customers complaining they would do something about it. This place is a disgrace to Japanese food because the Japanese people are actually have great hospitality and are prompt and fast they are known for their speed and precision. This place has the worst service I have ever experienced in my lifetime. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone honestly as there are many great Sushi options in and around Modesto with much much better service. The type of atmosphere does not represent any type of class at all, from their workers to their décor. The food is not all that either I would rank them a 3 out of 10.

So where do I begin… First of all Miki’s is a modern décor sushi place. Lots of fancy lights, lot’s of the color red. My Chirashi bowl was great! We had a seat on the chill lounge in the back and we’re seated under the flatscreen TV. I felt like I was in a fish bowl since everyone was looking in my direction to watch the TV. My only con’s were the miso bowl that was served to me — the paint on the bottom and side walls were scratched up. Really? You’re a fancy, high priced sushi restaurant, buy some new bowls and make sure they aren’t plastic. What it comes down to is they charge way too much, when you can go across the street and get the same thing for a less dollars and less noise.

Happy hour sushi is the best. I pig out on the crunch crunch. I could have 2 orders myself with another. They give you miso soup to start which is awesome. They have Stella on draft, my buddies favorite, so we like to come here at least once a month. The staff is attentive and the rolls are yummy.
Only bad thing was our last visit… dirty restroom. We informed them and hopefully it was taken care of but we finished dinner then left. We will go back. Nice bartenders, attentive wait staff, tasty sushi and a nice feeling of getting out every visit.

I have been here for sushi three times and each time I fall more and more in love. I sat at the bar and met the manager Stephanie who seems really knowledgeable and down to earth. I started with the soft shell crab which was amazing and proceeded to order a sashimi platter which had the perfect slices and was served chilled and fresh. If you’re not basic, I highly recommend the sashimi.

So here is the deal. I know better than go to any sushi restaurant and not ask for the sauce on the side. I like cold, raw sushi. I ordered their rainbow roll and it came with a thick, sweet sauce on top. I complained and they got me one with no sauce. Much better! And the waitresses were very kind.

Raj made is the most amazing vegetarian rolls. He took all of our suggestions and even added some input of his own. Tempura veggies, cream cheese, mango and cucumber. Yummmmmmm. I would eat this every day!

The last 4 times we’ve gone as a family for dinner it’s been terrible. The food is ok but the service makes this place a one star restaurant. Appetizers come out after the dinner order, whether you get water and soup is hit or miss. I think they actually forgot about our order one time because it took 45 minutes for 3 rolls. We ordered happy hour drinks and the gentleman behind the bar didn’t know how to make them. There are too many sushi places in town to suffer this kind of treatment.

I want to like Miki’s more because I’ve been eating there for years and the sushi is great but the service is So. Bad. Twice I have called in for to-​go orders and when I arrived, I was told that the waitress who took my order forgot to actually hand it in to the chefs so I ended up waiting longer anyway. I will keep going back because like I said their sushi is good and reasonably priced compared to other restaurants, but I would just get take out so you’re dealing with the poor service as little as possible.

Very slow service. There were at least 5 servers and 2 cooks and only 4 families/​tables and it took them for ever to bring our food and get our tab when we finished. Sushi was not that great. I’ve had way better.

I didn’t even want to give them a star. When you make reservations for 12 at 6:30. Get there on time your seated and not one server helps you for 30 minutes. Not even waters. When we asked who our server was? the servers just pointed fingers at each other. About 40 mins later we get waters and a side of attitude we are told they just got slammed with three more tables of two and if we could just be patient! Plus they give us happy hour menus and we are told we can’t order off those because we are a big group! Then why give them to us? At this point we just want something alcohol or appetizers. Plus if you have any health restrictions in your diet Expect to be just offered cucumber sticks and asked if your being punked. So we as a group! get up and walk out. NEVER AGAIN F@CK MIKI GO TO KOBE!

I wasn’t a sushi fan until I had the «EMT». It’s beyond amazing. Oooo and you have to try the grilled spicy edyamame. So good. I crave for this stuff daily. :p

The ABSOLUTELY worst service I have EVER had … Completely disrespectful said they had a full house so we needed to wait when we made reservations !
The manager was a complete bitch ! I will NEVER set foot in this restaurant again !

First, I must say that I’ve always been a fan of Miki’s: the food, the atmosphere, the service.
However, this is NOT the case anymore! I had lunch with my family and I must say it was chaotic to say the least. It was very obvious they’re understaffed, the waiter and waitress who were working were swamped with no help. It took forever for them to take our drink order, even longer to get the complimentary miso soup you do get while you’re waiting for your meal.
I saw two tables literally get up and leave because of how horrible the service was. The food is still great, but I definitely won’t be coming back anytime soon.

I have not been back at this sushi place in some time. The service was just… Okay. This time around it was a great experience.
I ordered a Bloody Mary and 2 rolls of Sushi. I love a good Bloody Mary and I got an AMAZING one. I ordered it with no alcohol. The bartender really put a good effort in to it. Her good attitude and good customer service really put it over the top.
The Sushi was great. I asked the bartender for suggestions on what rooms to get and just went with what she recommended and it was yummy! I have always enjoyed there food. It never disappoints.

I always make it a point to be 100% with my reviews and the reason I’m giving this place 4 stars is the first time trying this place out, we were greeted warmly, sat immediately and our server was their after a minute smiling and taking our drink order. PLUS** Food WAS FRESH and TASTY!
I know a lot of other reviews say that service here is horrible but from our first experience on a Saturday evening (busy) they were on point!
From other Unilocalers we came here because I LOVE POKE TUNA. And so I try it all sushi places. Usually most here in Modesto have it as a salad or appetizer. Have yet to find a different combination like a poke roll *AWESOME* but real traditional Hawaiian Poke is FRESH, flavorful and full of that Ahi Tuna with just the basic tossed in soy, sesame oil, green onion etc. Their version has a ‘lighter fresher’ take on ahi tuna poke. Although it was good. It was really small tiny bite size peices in a bowl, surrounded by all the basic ingredients and tomatoes. Also topped with a large slice of lemon. Guess that’s what they thought of fresh?
It was immediate taste of lemon and then after mixing the poke and seaweed together it tasted good. BUT, not all that. I will say, that the QUALITY of the tuna, was OUTSTANDING. Although I truly wish for $ 9 that it would have been larger pieces and more seaweed. but again QUALITY OF THE FISH WAS EXCELLENT!
We also ordered the Lion King roll (my kids love) TNT and bento box. lion king roll was sub par in presentation and did taste good BUT, I have had better. Will continue to try this place out again, because the QUALITY and the server we had was AWESOME. Her name was Ashley and made sure to take care of us, and was patient when asking questions about the menu.
