London Fish & Chips

It was… Okay. Nothing stuck out at all about this place. The food is fairly good but the guy who took my order did not know how to communicate. I asked him what came on their sandwiches and he told me only lettuce and tomato so I said sure that was fine and ordered one. and what did I find when I opened my sandwich? Onions, mayonnaise and mustard. Of course. Probably would have given more stars if they were better about communication.

My boys love this place but with them at school we haven’t been here in a while. Did they change ownership? The lady at the front counter was very short even borderlining rude. Their fries are now bland undercooked steak fries. We added a piece of catfish and got 2 pieces of dry paper thin cardboard. Plus condiments are no longer self serve and my request for a 3^rd malt vinegar was met with an exhale. Only saving grace is the nice kid cooking caught this and piped up with a thank you for coming. Plus they have the local market on fish and chips cornered.

Fish and chips with prawns was fresh and not oily. Minus one star for location. It is located at a busy intersection with no convenient way to access it directly. Minimal parking in front of the place so it is recommended to park around the corner of the building.

Consistently good food. Really good variety too. Catfish, prawns, calamari, popcorn shrimp, deep fried asparagus, deep fried artichokes, sweet potato fries. The list goes on and on… Really good portions are a plus. A little weak on the customer service/​friendly factor, but it’s fast and clean.

I love this place, we drive from Manteca to enjoy their fish and chips. I’ll be honest in saying I don’t know anywhere else around Manteca to get fish and chips, but even if I did I’d probably continue to go here. The staff and owners are very friendly and really appreciate their customers. The fish tastes fresh and they have great tempura batter. Their fries are delicious and never over salted, which is often a problem from restaurants. They also have friend asparagus, artichokes, shrimp, chicken, clams and an assortment of other fried goodies if that’s your desire. Top it off, they have a punch card so we get free stuff after a few visits. Go here, you won’t be mad.

The food tasted great! I had gotten the variety platter so that I could taste a little but of everything. The service was slow and the place needed to be cleaner. If I go back, I’d probably call ahead and order to go.

For quite a while I had this place in my bookmarks, but I never went. I never had a really good feeling about it, but today, on a whim, I decided to try it.
The parking lot is cramped, to be polite. They have double lines between the spots but even smaller cars like mine are over the inner lines on both sides. I probably shouldn’t have parked near the Stanton Optical store either – people seemed to be hella angry about that place.
Going inside, I didn’t feel more comfortable. It’s a long, thin, dark business. There were several customers and that helped my feeling to be more positive.
The person behind the counter was efficient and it didn’t take long to be able to place an order. The two piece fish combo was $ 7.99 and the fountain drink was $ 1.79. With tax, it came to just over $ 10.00. That isn’t horrible, if it’s good.
Well, they need to change/​clean their oil or use something different. An hour later and it still feels like something slimy is all over my throat. They gave me three pieces of fish instead of two and the fries and it just wasn’t good. Mind you, it wasn’t awful but I would rather pay more money for clean-​tasting and flavorful food.

I’ve been eating here for over 4 years now! I have never had a bad meal and always great customer service! Anyone who gives this place a bad review has no idea what good fish n chips are. I have never had a bad piece of fish or shrimp and I always get the same things. Plus they have amazing ranch and amazing cocktail sauce!

Good little spot near the mall. The fish is fresh and the good texture and taste. The fish slices are a bit thin, but large. I would visit again. I dinged two stars for terrible parking lot (small) and thin sliced fish pieces.

Haven’t had one complaint yet. Food has always been consistent. Been here around 10 or more time since it opened. Customer service is friendly. In know my food was goooooood. Fish and calamari basket.

The food wasn’t unbelievable but their service was! The fish was flavorful, the condiments were all refrigerated, offered vinegar, true to London. It was really good, not the best ever, but good. The service was amazing– we ordered 1 fish and calamari meal, another 2 fish meal. We got 2 fish meal and calamari, and a 3 fish meal. We were pleasantly surprised they gave us extra fish! And these fish are not tiny– they’re the full filet just like the UK. Way cool guys. BUT what was so above and beyond was they brought out ANOTHER basket of calamari while we were eating– saying they over fried my first batch a bit without us even asking or honestly minding the way the first batch of fried. So Awesome. So Awesome.

They have the best fish sandwich! Love their artichoke hearts and veggie combo.

Too much batter on everything for me. I couldn’t even taste the fish. I ordered combo 1 fish, 4 prawns. I added side of clam strips. Clam strips were decent. This is my first & last time here. But that’s how you find out if you like a place or not right?

The first time we went here was to get my son some food. We ordered him popcorn shrimp and 1 fish. He loved all of it! We took some bites and regretted not getting ourselves a meal! Unfortunately they do leave the veins in their shrimp. That didn’t stop us from returning the following week. My family of four loved it! My husband and I will definitely be coming back for more.

You know what I really miss?
Even more than I miss Breaking Bad, or not having to get my hair color touched up every 8 weeks?
Fish & chips wrapped in newspaper.
Growing up catholic meant that every Friday during lent, it was fish & chips day. My dad took me to London Fish & Chips (it was on McHenry Avenue back then), we’d pick up the goods, & take it all home to feast on w mom. The fact that everything was wrapped in newspaper was one of my favorite parts.
Sadly, all that came to a halt in the 80’s, after certain health peeps busted open the whole ink contamination thing. What buzzkills, right? It was then decided that establishments need to wrap the goods in grease resistant parchment paper, then w newspaper only on the outside. And even though today in the US 95% of all newspaper ink is soybean based & toxic free, the practice has not been reinstated.
Sigh. I miss the newspaper.
London Fish & Chips is still such a great memory for me. The real newspaper wrap & the 70’s are gone, but the fish is still crispy, tender, tasty, & greasy in all the right places. Not overly greasy, but appropriately & cleanly greasy.
There’s a heck of a lot more going on here than there was when I was a kid. Calamari, catfish, oysters, the works.
A good ol’ fish & chips joint. If you’re in a rush, call your order in first.

Great atmosphere, but lacks flavor. I have no idea what’s happening in restaurants today. They seem to be cutting the flavor boost. I was in the area of this place and gave them a chance. Ordering was very easy. The menu is full of great items and with refillable soft drinks.
I oder ed fish & prawns and my wife 2 fish with hush puppy’s. The size of the fish was very nice but lacked flavor. So I got some tarter sauce and that lacked even more in the flavor department. It’s was like plain mayonnaise. The prawns were very good and had flavor. The batter was plain. I myself make a killer beer batter. But what was nice. The food was not greasy. Witch was nice. But the batter taste like the oil was old.
Pro. Great service, clean, refillable drinks, clean bathroom, good prices.
Cons. Parking, outside dining noisy, food lacks flavor.
Over all. Still worth eating there to get some fish and chip’s.
I’ll definitely come back.

London fish was my favorite at graduate school over 20 years ago. It is low price, fast service, and great taste. It is a fast-​food type restaurant but with much better quality (better than any «fish and chips» in full-​size restaurant). It was a Taiwanese-​owner restaurant with rotating owners (the owners will rotate in different store, everywhere in the world, for every 2 – 3 years). If you like seafood, and don’t mind of occasional fried food, this is the BEST choice.
Location: near Vintage Mall at Modesto, Setting: casual and fast, Food: fried seafood and chicken (newly added), parking: behind the store, plenty, service: reasonable.

My son who is 6 and I decided to go to this place since it was close to chuck e cheese. I haven’t been to this place since it opened. Why haven’t I returned, I don’t remember.
My kid ordered the kids chicken meal and I got the fish and prawns with a side order of clam strips. They serve Pepsi product so we are already happy.
The wait was not long at all. I got my food and it was good. Not greasy and just right. My son wouldn’t stop eating the clam strips and said «Dad these are good!»
The fish was a wee bit thin but still was good. Other reviews stated the prawns were not deveined which is true but oh well. Not the first time I have eaten shrimp with the vein.
The funny part was drinking a Pepsi product in a coke paper cup.
I would come again. This place gives a variety of fried seafood products.

My husband was very curious about this place so we decided to go there yesterday for lunch…2 words can describe it: HORRIBLE AND GREASY!!! Everything tastes the same !!! There’s no different between fish and shrimps!!! We went to many different places of seafood here in California and other cities and really this place is the WORST!
We will never go back there and obviously never recommend this place
