Very nice little diner-style place tucked away on the north end of Royal Street. We had the breakfast special and it was fast, good, and really plentiful. We were hungry and went away stuffed! Service was very friendly and we felt welcomed and appreciated. My prediction: As the Water Street Gateway project continues to develop, this place will continue to expand its already growing fan base and become absolutely legendary. Can’t wait to get back down there and check out the lunch menu. Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and they will serve corned beef and cabbage and all the trimmings. This is the kind of place that makes me love city life.

One star for the food. Added a star for ambience, because the waitresses were very nice and the people watching was good. Ate lunch here while in town for a conference, Ordered a grilled chicken salad, which consisted of iceberg lettuce with pan fried chicken breast on it. There were also some hard boiled eggs, a couple of cherry tomatoes, and a few slices of cucumber. But they really lost me with the iceberg and the oily chicken. This is what I would call low budget diner food. I am not from the South, and I have found that this kind of food is considered acceptable fare here. For me — a big city person who likes fresh, tasty food — this was not a good place to eat.

Black bean soup is a must! Their BLT and just a spud with bacon is great too. Pass on the burgers but everything else is amazing! ~ breakfast get the bacon egg and cheese crescent! Good place and good people.

A breakfast & lunch staple for our office. My favorites are their Breakfast in a Cup, Salad Duo and their lunch specials. Others here recommend the Taco Salad and Black Bean soup. Kevin and his crew are always friendly. It’s nothing fancy; just good olé southern cooking. You’ll often see city personnel dining here.(If you forget to bring our potluck contribution, call Kevin and if it’s early enough notice, he could have a pan of mac & cheese ready for the potluck lunch & save your day!)

Had breakfast here the morning of a meeting. I had hoped this would be a hole in the wall with an amazing breakfast. It all tasted pretty plain. Coffee was weak too. I wouldn’t come again.

I had to do a review for one of my favorites downtown. This restaurant is around the corner from where I work. The portions are huge, the prices are awesome, the food is consistently wonderful. Their old reviews do not do this little gem any justice. Breakfast — let’s just say thick cut bacon. A ridiculous amount on the bacon egg and cheese biscuit. Awesome! Lunch always lasts me two days. I get the baked potato and salad for $ 8.99. The baked potato is the size of a small football(they are known for these huge potatoes and they run out of them every day). It came with four thick STRIPS of bacon on top and ¼ c of both butter and sour cream. It was enough to feed an army. That was just the first box. In the second box was my salad, which took up the entire box. It came with two tubs of dressing and was loaded with cheese, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes. The food at Royal Street Café is traditional, but it is superior to any traditional american food restaurant that I have ever been to.

We had lunch and breakfast here on a recent stay in Mobile and loved it. Our lunch waitress, Carol, was there two days later when we had breakfast and she remembered us. Service was quick and attentive, food was great and the prices reasonable. It’s not fancy but we go for the food and highly recommend the Royal Street Café. One thing to be aware of if visiting– they are closed on the weekends, probably because all the action is on Dauphin.

Not good. I ordered the burger. It tasted pre-cooked and came with a bag of chips. My boyfriend ordered the country-fried steak lunch. It looked like a Hungryman microwaved dinner. Instant mashed potatoes, canned corn for 10 dollars. No thanks. I feel this place MIGHT be ok for breakfast. The breakfast menu looked great. Waffles, eggs, toast. Prices were reasonable. However, lunch was BAD quality for the price. I’ll report back after a breakfast visit. I must mention though that our server was very sweet. So, there’s that…

Great little local diner, nothing fancy but thats how we like it. We had the pancake combo and the waffle combo. Service was very fast and friendly. I like coming into a diner and observing that the waitress knew practically every regular customer by name as well as what their usual preferences are. It just shows that loyal customers come back for the food and personal attention. Prices are hard to beat too!

Ok I will admit, I was upset that I missed breakfast because I was really looking forward to it. I ended up with the pastrami sandwich and it was AMAZINGLY tasty and I was very satisfied and they even brought me extra pickles. Always a plus! The service here is very personal and they are only open till 2 pm but worth every hour they are open.

Great place for a typical southern breakfast. Very friendly staff. Don’t confuse this with Café Royal which is on Dauphin and Royal.

One of the few places(if not the only) in Moble that has a Sunday Jazz Brunch. I have to say — the Sunday I went — the entertainment was FAR better than the food. I can’t believe two people could produce that much sound — not loud — subtle — but what a VOICE! Now — back to the food. This may not be a completely fair assessment of this restaurant. I got there about 30 minutes before the brunch was over. So I think several items had been sititng out a while and they weren’t really«refreshing» the buffet that close to closing. But what I had was not that good. Now that I’ve moved my office — they are right across the street from me — so I’m going to give them another shot. Their regular menu looked interesting. And I’m not one to give up on a local restaurant after only one try — especially when I can clearly see a reason they may have been sub-par on my first visit. So — hopefully — I’ll get a chance to try their regular menu soon — and I’ll be back with a review of that. UPDATEFEB1308 — Well — I gave them another chance. I’ve been back twice for lunch. Unfortunately I can’t change my rating. The gyros sandwich is the only thing I can even begin to recommend — and there are far better places in Mobile to get a Gyros(see Jerusalem Café). DONOT get the dolmas. The rice is crunchy and they basically have no flavor. And the falafel — I know I ordered a falafel — but what was delivered was a small ball of overcooked grains(not really sure what kind of grain — it was too burned to make it out). I’m pretty sure I cracked a tooth trying to eat it. Lastly — the service was not good. Being one of those people who is vocal about service — the owner(a very friendly man) was extremely apologetic, brought the table baklava on the house — and gave me a «dinner for two» to make up for it. The sad part is… even free… I don’t think I’ll go back.
