Way to much food. Had to take home half of my chicken fried steak which was actually two steaks on the plate. The baked potato was like double the size of most. We ended up here because we would have an hour wait at another restaurant in the same shopping center. No regrets as the food here was very good and employees friendly. The wife had the sliced beef and she said it was great.

Saw the Unilocal reviews and decided to give this place a try since it was close to my office. Of all the BBQ I have had in Texasc including the chain restaurants, this is by far the dryest brisket I have ever had. And for the price they charge, it was even tougher to swallow. See what I did there?

I have been coming here for 25 years. Great food and with lots of flavor. My last visit I went to get to dinner for me and my son. My son who is super picky got a ½ chicken, green beans, and fries. He ate every bit of it. I got brisket, green beans, and potato salad. The brisket had a great smoke ring and char while the inner meat was juicy and tender. And I can not forget the 2 sliced each of buttered and grilled Texas toast that was about to put me into a food coma. This is a staple in Missouri City eatry.

I judge most B.B.Q. Places by how well they do three things are Pork Ribs, Brisket, and their BBQ sauce. The atmosphere was pleasant and at the time we went around 6PM on a Monday surprisingly uncrowded. I ordered the Two Meat Plate with Pork Ribs, Brisket and sides of Okra and Potato Salad. The pork ribs seemed a little small almost like half ribs. They were slightly dry as opposed to having a seared crust with juicy meat. They had a good hickory smoke flavor that was right on the edge of too strong. Let’s call it 6 out of 10. The Brisket was also slightly too dry with the drying of the outer crust just a little too much for my taste. Again the smoke flavor was slightly on the heavy side. One the slices of brisket I got I would have preferred a little more marbling and maybe sliced a little thinner. The BBQ sauce was a sweet sauce that was mild with no real spice to it. It wasn’t a bad sauce just nothing distinct or outstanding about it. The atmosphere of the place was pleasant and the restrooms were clean which is always something I notice. Overall I would give it a 4 Star out of 5 for overall dining experience and 3 Stars out of 5 for being a «Good» BBQ place.

This is a more generous 3, see below. Really would like to give it a 2.5 I had the chicken and my boyfriend had the ribs. I had the BBQ beans and he had the mac&cheese. We both had fried okra. Wait time and service(4 stars): We didn’t have to wait in line and the food was ready really quickly, but there were very few people in the restaurant(we went early on a Monday night). Once we got our food and sat down, someone walked over and asked if we needed anything — he did this a couple times; so overall, service was pretty good. Cleanliness(4 stars): No issues here :) Chicken(3 stars): the chicken wing was delicious, but the chicken breast was a little dry. The dipping sauce was pretty good though. Ribs(3 stars): We have definitely had better and they weren’t fall off the bone — on the other hand, they also weren’t super dry. BBQ Beans(1 Star): Even if we decide to come back, there’s no way I will order those again. The beans didn’t seem cooked well enough and I didn’t care for the chili-like flavoring that was used. Mac&Cheese(2 Stars): My boyfriend replied that he’s definitely had better. Fried Okra(4 Stars): Was good, but pretty standard and expected. Glad we ordered it or we would’ve probably given worse reviews.

This is probably the only place I know that sells pork riblets, and they are my favorite item here! They have that smokey taste that you would get from your backyard, and in a good way. The restaurant itself is in a nice shopping center and is usually empty most of the time. If you’re looking for BBQ then you can’t go wrong here!

I was pretty satisfied with my meal at Old Hickory Inn. I decided to try a bit of different kinds of meat so I settled on the 3 meat plate, comes with 2 sides. $ 14 with tax. I chose the sausage, ribs(.50 up-charge), chicken quarter. For sides, the cashier raved about the mac & cheese and proclaimed it was made with real cheese(yes I asked) and I also chose the fried okra. The food is more along the lines of 3, they could use a bit more of a heavier hand with the seasonings. Otherwise it was good but could have been so much more enjoyable if Morton’s or somebody was introduced to their kitchen. None of the meats were overcooked or dried. Pretty smokey flavor and skip the regular BBQ sauce, the spicy(ain’t really spicy) knocks it out of the water!!! Now the sides, again okra needed salt. And I’m very salt sensitive and find most places over-season so I can’t imagine what a regular person’s buds think about the seasoning. I could have definitely passed on the mac & cheese, it didn’t even look inviting honestly. The TX toast is not really thick TX toast you think of it but it was nice on the side. Service: Definitely 4 star! They couldn’t have been nicer, no problems whatsoever! From order to pick up… It’s not in my radar to return since I went here only for a special occasion but if I lived nearby, I would definitely come here for my BBQ fix! Better than some of these chains…

Best BBQ around! I love this place and try to go at least 3x per month. Their chicken is amazing and my husband always gets the baked potato. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a hot, southern cooked dinner!!!

I had the three meat combo — ribs, brisket, and links. Ribs were pretty dry. Everything was flavorless. They screwed up my wife’s order — they served her the wrong side. Once we mentioned that the guy at the counter was not apologetic but did say that somebody would bring the correct side to our table. We finished our meal in about 35 – 40 minutes but nobody ever showed up with the correct side order. Below average food, bad customer service. Will never go back.

The establishment was clean and well maintained. That being said, the food was extremely unimpressive. In one word… bland. The brisket was dry, the riblets were tough, the macaroni and cheese was mushy, and the potatoes were fake. The Texas toast, although tasty, was not the thick toast you are expecting. It was just regular bread. My husband had the brisket, sausage, potato salad, and beans. He said the beans were okay, but everything else was terrible. If you are craving moist, tender, flavorful, mmm — mmm good barbecue, this is not the place to go.

It was surprising a delicious meal. The brisket, Mac and cheese, onion rings and Texas toast. The spicy BBQ sauce was to die for. We will definitely be back!

Having family in town is a perfect excuse for take out from here! We got the chicken, sausage, and brisket with sides of potato salad made fresh!, mash potatoes and gravy which disappeared with the guys going back for seconds, sweet kernel corn and BBQ beans which are a tad bit spicy and delish! This may be our new«go-to» for holiday meals. This was easy and very yummy! Service was excellent and I like the re-location of condiments.

Tried this place for the very first time today with my fiancé, and we loved it! The chicken had a great smokey flavor, and was as close to backyard barbeque as you can get without the heat & mosquitos! The riblets had the same great taste. Potato salad was yummy and my fiancé enjoyed the baked beans. We cleaned our plates, and we will definitely be going back!

I was in the mood for some barbecue and looking for a place I’ve not yet tried. I had heard good things about this place and figured why not give it a try? We arrived around 6 P. M. and there was a moderate crowd but not packed. Upon entering I not only noticed the cleanliness and spacious dining area but it smelled incredible! Imagine a smokey, meaty, barbecue-y(it’s now a word) aroma enveloping you as you walk into a restaurant. I was already hungry and this made me ravenous! The guy behind the counter was patient while we studied the menu and the servers were friendly. I chose the 2 meat plate. My choices were sliced brisket, pork riblets, barbecue beans and macaroni and cheese. My first thought was to get the pork ribs but decided to try the riblets on a whim. The riblets were a little dry and less meaty compared to other ones I’ve had but the flavor was there. However, the rest of the foods were very good. Brisket was tender, overall lean and with a nice smokey, well seasoned flavor. The taste is more Greek barbecue inspired than the traditional Texas yet it works very well. The barbecue beans were outright fit for a king flavorful. Lots of little chopped beef pieces and a light-just-right barbecue taste really made them a standout. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, cheesey goodness but a little softer than I like my pasta cooked. The texture wasn’t a big deal since they flavor was there. My meal was also served with two slices of toasted buttery bread which was fantastic dipped in barbecue sauce. There were three different bottles of barbecue sauce to choose from to go along with the meal. I know some don’t like much barbecue sauce, some think the meats should stand alone and don’t like it at all. To each his own. I happen to love sauce. I chose the original. The other two choices were a sweet and spicy and a hot. The barbecue stuffed potato was what my significant other chose. It was well cooked and full of chopped brisket. You can customize it to taste. He chose cheese, sour cream, chives and butter. I tried a bite without sour cream(not a sour cream fan at all here) and it was delicious. Again, tender beef brisket with savory barbecue taste made it enjoyable. For a dessert I chose the rice pudding. It was super creamy dreamy with warm cinnamon and just the right texture of pudding firmness. We got a slice of carrot cake to go. It was soft-moist and spiced perfectly with sweet cream cheese frosting. I will definitely come back here again and try other menu items, especially the pork ribs. From what I saw on other patrons’ plates they looked mouthwatering. Good job, Old Hickory. I’m still thinking of those beans.

This place has chicken fried steak! Yum! I didn’t try that though. They actually have quite a bit to offer as a barbecue joint, and all in all the food is decent, the portions are well, the prices are fine. That’s the bottom line. They have a good space, that you wouldn’t have to feel to close to your neighbor, although you probably would if it’s busy, or if you table is next to them– simple resolvement– move your table. They have two rooms you can join in on, though one is most likely for parties. They got this weird counter where you order at with glass/plastic windows– crap have this place been robbed before? Let me ask them how much money they make… I love the location and style of the restaurant, it’s kinda too bright though. The bread is good, the sides are okay, the meat– here’s where i get in a debate with hubby about, he thinks it’s okay and was a bit dry, I though it was fine. Like the links were juicy and greasy, but the chicken was dark and kinda dry. They have this jalapeño sauce that was kinda tangy to me, but I liked it. The mac and cheese was okay. It has a variety of food to offer and that’s what I like, though I haven’t been here much– it’s decent, I’m a fan, my hubby is still to find that good to his heart barbecue.

Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but we did not experience the great food that others have here. I found my brisket dry, which is a shame because it was a lovely cut. The sauce did not help much either for it was lacking in flavor as well. The mac and cheese, which at first looked like it was covered in lots of lovely gooey cheese, was so flavorless that even salt and pepper could not have saved it. The only saving grace on my plate where the beans, which had a nice peppery kick. My partner’s chicken fried steak was also ho-hum, and he didn’t even want to finish it. It looks like the place was more recently redone, and I know it has been there for a long time, so maybe something was just off that day?

We worked with Old Hickory Inn for an event for 350 people. They had the lowest prices around. They had a great selection(even options for the kids) and we got A LOT of food for the price! Everything was delivered on time and perfect! We received lots of compliments on the food! This company was extremely easy to work with and I will definitely use them again in the future!

I like this place. I just went today with my sister for a late lunch. I’d most definitely go back. I ordered the beef BBQ sandwich, a side of spicy sausage, and the baked beans. The sandwich bread was pretty good. It was that dense chewy styled BBQ bun that holds a hefty helping of chopped BBQ when you put it in your hand. The sauce is just a little under spiced but still very flavorful. And its just a touch sweeter then I am used to, but all in all, I am not complaining. The sausage was ok — just ok. Nothing to write home about but nothing negative either. I guess just average. The BBQ beans were not that good. Maybe a 2 out of 5. They were hard and over spiced. Where they hold the spice back a little with the BBQ sauce, they over compensate with the beans. Thats my thought anyway. My sister got the onion rings which looked a bit overdone but she still seemed to enjoy them. This is a little older location that has been her a while. So the smell off BBQ really grabs you when you come in. It’s good old fashioned smoke filled BBQ atmosphere and its great! Our 2 plates and drinks together were $ 22 — so it was pretty reasonable.
