Really nice place for tennis. It’s in a little bit of a sketchy part of town, but oh well. What are ya gonna do? Go to Lifetime? I think not. There’s a new renovation going on right now, and things should be even better in the long run once the renovation is complete. Sadly, there’s no more Doug Matuska, but I’ll have to get over it. He will be missed, but he’s still doing good things at the aforementioned Lifetime Fitness in Bloomington. But, with that said, the annoying manager from days past, Mike Vidmar, has been sent packing. And not a minute too soon. He was one of the biggest *holes around, and I’m glad to be rid of him. He was really rubbing people the wrong way, and running things like a moron. Among other things since he’s been gone, Nicollet Tennis now finally takes AMEX! About time in my opinion-especially since a bunch of yuppies go here. And, yes, we yuppies use AMEX. Get used to it world… or else.

It was a bit of an adjustment to have to coordinate the pro and the court instead of the facility doing it as part of your membership, anytime you want a lesson. Having said that, I really enjoyed my time being a member here. It is no frills and very comfortable. If you want to keep things low key and just have fun playing tennis, then this is just the place to do it. There is no pressure to join a team and ‘compete’ if that’s not your thing. I have met really wonderful people here and they have been so welcoming to an out– of –towner. The courts are nice, they run on time and when I couldn’t find my shoes shortly after moving, they had some nice options that I could purchase there. All in all, 4 out of 5 stars for sure. One thing to note, if you go on the weekend, there is limited parking, so be prepared to park on a street in the neighborhood and walk for a ways. You may need an extra 15 minutes or so. This place has REALLY grown on me. I like its non-pretentious atmosphere even though it’s a nice tennis facility.

Unfortunately for this place, it’s called Reed Sweatt. It sounds ishy, but it’s not! This is actually a great, no-frills tennis bubble on Nicollet. As with any place, it’s pretty spendy to reserve a court if you’re not a member($ 26/court + $ 5 guest fee per player if you reserve more than two hours in advance). You can get around the extra $ 5 guest fee if you reserve less than two hours in advance. Or you can become a member. The courts are in great shape and the locker rooms are simple, but decent. There’s easy parking outside. Plus, they have drills, leagues and a ball machine available if you want to rent one. One thing that wasn’t so great is that it was jungle hot and humid inside when we were playing last Friday. There was no one waiting to play on our court after we were done, and it was really nice that the staff didn’t come kick us off when we went a few minutes over our allotted time to finish our match. Some places are really strict about that even when there’s nobody up next… and that’s a bummer. Reed Sweatt was not a bummer though.
