For someone like myself who doesn’t believe in eating healthy or small servings, this place is heavenly sent. For $ 10 you’re guaranteed slightly elevated cholesterol and PETA’s disappointment. Like(almost) all Muslim/Somali restaurants here in the cities, they have the men and the women separated in two separate dining sections. If you’re asking why? It is because of cultural and religious obligations for practicing Muslims. If you’re still asking why? Buy yourself«The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the World’s Religions» i own one, or here is a thought, befriend a Muslim. If you are not a Muslim or are a non-practicing Muslim or just someone of the opposite sex then you need not worry, you can sit down in front of the men and chow down with your mouth open… to hell with what the men think. The food here is a mix of Middle Eastern and some traditional Somali ones, you should ask your waiter to tell you the difference If you can’t pick anything from the menu. Keep in mind there’s a high probability that he can’t understand why you’re so goddamn curious. You can eat solo or order«sport» if you’ve got company that doesn’t mind sharing. The«sport» is one huge plate that has multiple dishes, or you could order an all plate of rice/pasta or both together. And then on top of the dish will be a meat lovers dream of your choosing. The men’s section could use new rugs and a whole less of noise, especially when the folks are watching Soccer or CNN(I don’t really have the energy to digress, so I will save my platitudes of everything that’s wrong with soccer and CNN for some other time) The place could also use non-robotic servers. The couple of time’s we’ve been here, the waiters moved around with the enthusiasm of a punch of guys in orange jumpsuits picking up trash on the side of the road…“I tell ya, they got no respect for the job” this is my lame impersonation of Rodney Dangerfield. Not bad, not bad at all.
