As a long time neighbor of this establishment, i have been a customer since day one. What used to be my favorite café is now a place i, sadly, avoid. The changes seem to be related to the new/current ownership. The remodel is a design disaster. The interior is dirty; especially the men’s room. The garbage cans frequently needed to be emptied an hour ago. This is the 2nd Summer with no umbrellas for the outside seating area. The counter area at the condiment station is disgustingly dirty. Chairs are either broken or the legs are so loose that they feel unstable. It is very noticeable that the guest numbers have dwindled at this location. This business used to be a real asset to ECCO. I hope that management can pull it together and right this sinking ship.

I haven’t been there since summer 2014. The pastries were old and the outside sidewalk seating had a bunch of litter and mismatched furniture that was all over the place. It used to be such a nice place to hang out on a weekend morning.

Ryan and his team are wonderful! My friend and I live pretty far apart, so whenever we get together, we like to go to this Dunn Bros. location. It’s comfortable, quiet enough for conversation, has easy parking, and located perfectly for us. But how’s the coffee? the treats? They do a terrific job with both, and I have found that all the Dunn Bros. that I have been to(just off the top of my head, two downtown Dunn’s, another uptown one, the Loring one, Excelsior) also do a very fine job on all fronts. But we’re calling out Ryan, who has always been super friendly, smart, and accommodating of any little weirdnesses we have in our drink and treat preferences. When I have suggested to my friend that we go to that Dunn’s, she always remarks that it will be nice to see Ryan. Why only 4 stars? I believe this is beyond Ryan’s control, but there are almost always a few flies inside, that will alight on your gluten-free banana chocolate chip muffin if you do not guard it carefully. But everything else about this Dunn’s outweighs that one minor observation. We love this Dunn’s!

Really cute place with an amazing form of a creamy iced mocha. I also went when they were about to close, and the employees still made me feel welcomed. I hate going so close to closing time, but I definitely appreciated the employees making me feel welcome anyway.

This place had a lot of potential. They’re clearly trying hard and exert an above average focus on the art of coffee compared to your average chain(they are a local chain). That said the combination of apathy and snobbery from the staff, along with the lack of care applied to the interior makes puts this place at only three stars. The americano and latte we got we’re decent. There was some low effort latte art applied. The fact they roast their own beans is cool and it felt authentic to see a guy working the roast machine. The main downer was the fact the staff made us feel like they were doing us a favor by taking out order. Kids these days. There’s simply no reason or excuse not to be friendly and welcoming. I don’t care how good your coffee is how how tight your skinny jeans are. A «hello» and smile is basic service, not something they only teach in advanced barista school.

I love this Dunn Brothers. It’s only a couple of blocks from my house, and my experiences have been positive. One time, I confided in the barista that I was hanging out there because I accidentally locked myself out of my house, and when he gave me my breve the froth had a flower design. Totally made my day. Lots of couch space as well as tables for working.

Love all dunn brothers — I echo that this one struggles with location, but I do love the entire room full of tables and chairs — perfect if you want to go study, not as welcoming to just hang out and relax(other locations you can do this in a more welcoming environment). Regardless — the cold press @ Dunn Bros can’t be beat :)

This is a really nice Dunn Bros location: it lacks that chain-y feel found at some others. It’s tucked away just a handful of block off of Lake Calhoun(I was quite surprised to see another one just four blocks north on Lake, where just eight blocks away is another location on the same street). Unlike the others it’s a bit more quiet, what with it being tucked away in a mostly residential area where every other business seems to be a salon. The indoor mural with the girl on her Mac wearing shades inside is a really nice touch. The cold press(and water) was just what I needed after biking down from NE around the lakes.

Service struggles a little bit at this location but I’m convinced it’s because of how the back counter is set up. Everything is spaced out so far that it just takes them longer to move around. Good news! Save 25 cents on your beverage when you bring in your own coffee cup. I love paying less than $ 2 for a large coffee.

let me preface this by saying, normally, i like Dunn brothers. i like their coffee & espresso better than starbucks: they get a «C» for service: some of the employees are rude, it seems it was the manager, actually! the location is nice — out of the way not in the midst of the craziness of lake street/uptown. lots of parking. i like the inside décor small tables, wooden chairs, and a few soft cushion chairs in a group, one area with a wooden bench and small tables in a line. atmosphere: not blasting music, low general hum of conversations, kinda loud coffee roasting machine — but i guess that’s the price for fresh roast. i’d give it another chance.

The rudest staff in the greater metro to serve burnt coffee. I will never step foot into this establishment ever again.

I hadn’t been to a Dunn Bros in probably 13 years, as when I lived in the Twin Cities, I decided one day that I liked Caribou much better. At the time, I thought Dunn Bros was trying too hard to be cool, with carefully chosen hipster music and employees with too many tattoos and much attitude. I lost patience with that jazz. On Tuesday I had a couple hours to kill, and had plans to meet a friend near Lake of the Isles. I wanted to read, but couldn’t hang outside. I drove around in the rain and found this location and saw that I could park nearby. It seemed fine; I just wanted a latte and a place to read. I am so glad I stopped in here! The large latte is very large and was delicious. I also ordered a raspberry/white chocolate scone and thought it was very tasty. I found a comfy chair and read for a couple of hours. It was quiet enough for me to read without being too quiet. It seemed that the place was filled with lots of regulars– couples and older, retired people. In fact, I saw John Updike’s doppelgänger playing Scrabble with himself. I tried not to stare. (I didn’t try to get wifi, for the record, so I can’t comment on whether or not it was a decent signal).

Dunn Brothers is my preference for coffee. They make great coffee. Reliably. Which is great since it is locally roasted. Locally — as in on site. Seating availability is limited. No tables for a group to meet. Group areas are often taken by the regulars(meaning retirees with their morning reminisce group) The seating with accessibility to the outlets is fairly uncomfortable for a long period of time. The internet connection is stable, but not that much bandwidth and slows down when lots of people are on it. The outdoor seating is basically on the sidewalk with no space. It is on the south face. It is usually baking or cold. The eye candy of the customers is poor– but the staff usually makes up for it. In the end this is a great coffee shop to get a cup before a walk around Lake Calhoun, before going to church, or getting a pound of beans on your way home. Not a road warrior café.

A few months back I would have given this place a better rating; however, a warning is in place — if you’re planning on getting work or homework done, be aware that the Internet connection has been pretty random the last several months. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give it another go, and although I didn’t have any problems then I’m still a bit nervous to go back. Apart from that, this is a great coffee shop and one of my personal neighborhood favorites!

wow — great coffee, great vibe, cool employees that don’t take themselves too seriously. not every location is as cool as this one, so we tend to gravitate here. But realistically any venture out always includes a mapped out route that takes us past a Dunn Bros, and preferably this one. sadly, I may have once bought a condo in the vicinity, and this place might have factored into the decision. hey, I said«sadly»

I spent a lot of evenings here over the past 3 years while in grad.school. It’s friendly, cozy, and very neighborly. One night a week seemed to be the«older gay men» group. They all sat in a circle and just yakked with/at each other. Very cool. There are two sections, one more suited to studying. Both have 4-seat tables, and both sections have computer power supply inviting extension cords snaking around the rooms’ perimeters. There are also very comfy couches in the back of one room, replete with a shelf filled with board games. Besides the usual caffeine and non-caffeine libations, there are scones, muffins, really good biscotti, and pretty good grab & go breakfast burritos and egg-mcmuffins. Outside tables too. WI-FI, which is FREE(unlike Starbucks) reaches all over. It’s a great neighborhood LOCAL chain coffeehouse!
