A fast-food American twist on the Vietnamese sandwich. This place gets busy busy during the lunch hour as hungry young people from campus pour in. Despite the line, ordering goes quite quickly thanks to the clever teamwork of the staff. One of the friendly staff members will go down the line and take your order with their tablet. Then all you do is pay at the cashier. It’s fantastic. Food is ready to go in 5 minutes maximum. I’ve been eating Vietnamese sandwiches since I was a child, and since before it ever became a trendy food. So, perhaps my opinion will be harsher than others. At this place, there are so many new twists –such as curry chicken sandwiches or in this case, you could also make it a wrap. The fries to go along with the sandwich is so «American» too. Does anyone else think the curry chicken tastes like dish-soap on the first bite? Who knew that«curry» flavor could go so wrong, but you learn something new everyday. Anyway, students can eat anything(anything is better than 29 cent ramen?), so they probably would be OK with dish-soap sandwiches? Also, the appetizers are pretty terrible! The fried eggrolls are warmed on the outside, but on the inside, there are still some cold bits that weren’t completely cooked yet! Yikes. Additionally, the potstickers are FRIED like a wonton, instead of boiled. It was nasty. Final word, the American flavors clashes and does not mix well with the earthy Vietnamese flavors. The food misses the mark, is a bit too bland for me, and is not good enough to go out of your way to drive all the way here and battle finding parking just to eat there. However, if you happen to be in the area, it’s a decent cheap fast food option, and certainly a great deal for students on a budget.

Very solid takeout lunch spot. The line gets long, sometimes extending out the door, but they keep it moving pretty well. But I wouldn’t come here during lunch hours if I was pressed for time. Sandwiches are a good size, so you can possibly split it between two people or two meals if you make it a combo with fries.

Yummy sandwiches, great service and those heavenly crispy fries. It’s a little greasy but it’s worth it. The best place for a quick-yummy sandwich between classes

Really great tofu sandwich, wish it were a little bigger. Price is good, but place gets really crowded around lunchtime.

This is a great place to grab lunch in Stadium Village. You stand in line to place your order, and then stand on top of each other(not for long) waiting for your food… but the Vietnamese sandwiches are yummy. I had the Bun Mi Special(grilled pork, eggs, and pâté) with a Bubble-Tea. It was tasty and satisfying… but not about atmosphere.

Actually as good as it gets. Delicious food. Great setting. Casual.

Bun Mi is a delicious Americanized sandwich shop located in Stadium Village near Dinky Town. Their sandwiches consist of more flavoring(sauces) and ingredients in comparison to what an authentic Vietnamese Bahn mi usually has. But, no worries. they are just as(if not, more!) tasty. The atmosphere will most likely feel fast-paced and crowded during busy hours, but luckily they have take out so you can escape the chaos and still satisfy your bun mi craving. Don’t be fooled by the small venue and long line during busy hours. The place definitely makes good use of technology(iPads), allowing them to provide a well organized and efficient ordering system. Also, take note that the Green Line runs right through Washington Avenue and it will be difficult to find parking. Best to park in the neighborhoods and walk to Bun Mi. It’s easier and definitely worth it!

A little nook of a lunch spot immediately off campus. Bun Mi generates good-sized crowds during lunch, but they’ve implemented a highly efficient service system that keeps the line moving and the kitchen rapidly cranking out the goods. The $ 6 price point lands Bun Mi in the cheap eats category. My recommendation: the mock duck curry — plenty of flavor with a kick of jalapeño-induced spice. I’m a bit carb-ophobic, so I opt for a wrap rather than the standard baguette — a simple but unique alternative. Bun Mi doesn’t offer much in terms of atmosphere — it’s a sweltering, neon-lit corridor. Take out is preferable.

I’ve been here several times. The Vietnamese-styled sandwiches were alright. I felt that the grilled pork was too dry. My favorite thing to order here are the fries. The prices here are decent. The restaurant is great for students at the U because they’re able to stop by for a sandwich, fries, and pop at a fair price. There isn’t a lot of space to sit, but most people tend to order take out.

We were at the U for an all day event and we’re looking for someplace good to grab lunch. Looked in Unilocal and this place was top rated and close by. We walked over a few blocks and WOW. What a find! We live in the eastern suburbs so not a lot of excuses to travel all the way over here but I bet the family will be asking to come back soon. We all ordered different things — curry chicken salad, the house special sand which and a beef wrap. We also ordered fries(per the other reviews), bubble tea(chai and raspberry) cream cheese won tons, and egg rolls. Eating family style we were able to try lots of flavors. I have to say the food was perfect. Lots of fresh flavors, perfectly seasoned, great portion sizes. We will definitely head over as a family again. Worth the trip for sure!

I visited this place while staying at the Commons hotel for a conference. Like others have said, if you’re looking for«traditional» American sandwiches, you’re in the wrong place. Bun Mi has sandwiches and wraps that are very much inspired by southeast Asia. I had the Thai curry wrap; it was delicious with the nice overtone of coconut you expect in Thai curry without being overpowering. Wrapped in were plenty of delicious veggies that were cooked but still nice and crisp. The wrap itself was a nice proportion, more than enough for lunch. Prices on all items are more than reasonable. I also returned a few times for the bubble tea. They do it very well. You can get it shaken or blended with tons of flavors to choose from. Great refreshing drink during the summer. The only«con» about this place is the size. It’s very small and only seats a handful. If you need a place to sit, just cross the metro tracks and between them is plenty of seating. If you come right around noon, the line will likely be out the door. Don’t fret; they move quickly.

Update. They changed their fries. They removed some of the breading and doesn’t taste as good. Won’t be coming back here again. Worst banh mi’s I’ve eaten.

Coming from an Asian background and having tried Banh Mi sandwiches at several different restaurants prior to my visit here, I was quite disappointed with their sandwiches here. This store is definitely Americanized and won’t offer the authentic Vietnamese sandwiches that you can find along Eat Street on Nicollet Avenue. It is also extremely pricey! Other Banh Mi stores off campus typically only cost $ 3 – 4 at MOST, and usually have me salivating for more while this restaurant costs $ 6 – 7. The Banh Mi offered here has extremely hard and chewy bread and halfway through eating my sandwich, my jaw hurts from chewing so much. My friend and I came here once and she asked if the sandwich could be heated a little to make it softer, but they said that they couldn’t do that for us. The only thing I love here is the fries. They are really crunchy, fresh, and delicious. Before stopping in, make sure to double check if they have coupons available. They’re on several different campus phone apps and also have BOGO coupons in all the coupon books that students hand out around campus. This is definitely not my first choice when craving Banh Mi but with so little options on campus, I reluctantly come here every so often with a BOGO coupon.

Bun Mi should be in your potential lunch places always, especially if you are a UMN student. Bun Mi sells Vietnamese STYLE sandwiches. They are not the most authentic, but I’d be lying if I said they aren’t absolutely delicious. I’ve had the classic, the special, Thai curry, and beef/pork sandwiches. They were all great! You can also get any sandwich as a wrap, which I think gives you more of everything plus the inclusion of lettuce. THEFRIESAREAMAZING. Also I’ve always been able to find a buy one get one free coupon everytime time been, so look out for them. It makes a better deal out of an already great one.

This is probably one of my favorite places to grab lunch! In the summer I love to grab food and sit on the patio area across the street. Their Vietnamese Sandwiches are great and the one I always order is the beef and pork. It is very flavorful and it comes with a side of fried which are lightly battered and salted which are amazing! They also have some decent thai tea so I usually grab that with my meal as well. If you plan to visit look up a coupon as they are not that difficult to find and you can get a BOGO free if you get lucky. Tips: Parking in the area can be tricky but there are a lot of meters across the street in the front of Applebee’s and also in the Washington Ave. Ramp.

This has been on my list of places to try for a while! I have never had a bahn mi sandwich. So of course I needed to try it and this place had high ratings. However, I got here and as I was talking to the girl behind the counter, she said the salads were really good, so I ended up getting the lemongrass chicken salad. So I still haven’t tried a bahn mi sandwich. However, the salad was really good! It was on a bed of noodles and came with some dressing. The dressing was SOGOOD and flavorful. The lemongrass also had great flavor. The shop was tiny. Service was good. Prices are fairly cheap. Can’t wait to come back and get the sandwich or wrap.

There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said. This is a great place to gab a sandwich when you’re on campus, or even if you’re not on campus, and just go there for Bun Mi. Personally, I prefer the wrap! I know it’s not really the point of banh mi, but you get all the same stuff as inside the sandwich(maybe even more??) without all the extra carbs taking up space in your stomach. The bread just doesn’t seem to be anything special. Plus, if you order the wrap, you can feel less guilty about indulging in a side of fries.

This is a lunch-time staple for me. When you are really hungry, and just need something quick, delicious and spicy — Bun Mi sandwiches is the place to be! The queue gets insane! Get here right at 11am when they open(or shortly thereafter) or else you will be in line until your lunch break is over. And that’s really not a whole lot of fun for anyone. Although for how crazy these lines get, it does move fast! They have an ordering system going on here — they move down the line and will take your order on an iPad(or some sort of digital contraption — I’m not exactly sure). You pay when you get to the front of the cashier’s desk. A pretty swift system actually. Every single item I’ve ordered here has been tasty. I’ve had the Lemongrass chicken sandwich(good, but not my favorite) the Bun Mi Special(also a good choice), and the Grilled Pork and Beef(my usual favorite order –really good stuff!) I ask for extra cilantro and extra jalapenos. They do it up perfectly. You can’t go wrong with their fries — they are so crispy and flavorful and come with a spicy mayo dipping sauce. Their Fried Pork or Veggie Egg Rolls are gifts from the Elves. They come with a delicious gingery sweet and sour sauce — Elvin magic indeed. These are very special rolls — you have to be patient, these take a little longer to prepare but they are totally worth the wait! Come a little earlier, sit down at one of their tiny tables that come completely decked out with condiments such as Sriracha and Hoisin sauces. For around $ 8 you can have a complete lunch and a beverage. This is such a good deal and pretty hard to beat!

I enjoyed my visit to Bun Mi, which would be easy to miss as it’s a small storefront tucked in on a very busy stretch of road. But it is worth the stop if you are a fan of bahn mi sandwiches. I ordered the lemongrass chicken based on other Unilocal reviews and found it to be flavorful and really tasty. The bun was soft but had that nice fresh bread crunch on the outside. I thought it was a pretty good representation of a bahn mi as in it had lots and lots of fresh veggies and not so much meat. My dining companion got a salad with shrimp and steak on it that looked delicious. Staff was friendly. It’s the type of place where you order and pay at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Turnaround was pretty quick even though they were busy. I also noted a lot of takeout happening, possibly since the place is so small, only a half dozen tables or so. One other note: the person I was eating with ordered a glass of water and it came with a big fat orange slice squeezed into the bottom of the glass. First time I think I have ever had ordering envy over water!
