Worst service I have ever received at a bar. The bartender gave me the«one second» finger about 4 times, and never came back to ask what I’d like. He was more interested in taking shots with his pals than serving paying customers. Never again.

This place smells much better since the smoking ban. It used to be smoke central in here. Still pretty divey. They have live music and a dancing area, which I love, but it can get super loud to the point where you can’t really have a conversation even sitting at the bar. If you aren’t really into the band that’s playing, it could get pretty overwhelming. On the plus side, I’m always happy with the beer selection and the service at the bar. I just don’t come around here super often since it’s a little too loud for me most nights.

Shhhhhh… sometimes i come here and play pool in the back. I can neither confirm nor deny. My pool playing skills though, for the record, are abysmal, as is the ladies bathroom as others have noted. There’s a band or at least an «open Mic» deal most nights. King Solomon does the reggae thing here a lot of nights and that’s usually fun. Just be sure to do all your conversing to your friends before the band starts, cuz after they start playing, it’ll be that yell at person across table while other person politely smiles and nods while having no f#/*ing clue what you are saying type of nights. The beer always seems a way better deal than mixed drinks. They have food here and I think I actually ate here once years ago because I decided the prices were a good deal or something.(As I’m writing this im like, «yeah, remember that time you ate at up and under? What was that all about?») Anywho, popular dive-y Brady st bar that also happens to host bands. Maybe you saw me here. Maybe.

I think I’m being pretty generous with three stars considering it has some of the most disgusting bathrooms I’ve ever seen. But they sort of counter with their live music, and my best friends boyfriend has played here before and it was a cool event. However, if not for my bestfriend, I would probably never have darkened the doorstep of this establishment, mainly because I like cleanliness and they really drop the hat on that one.

I really like Up and Under. It’s one of my favorite places to go on Brady Street. It’s such a relaxed place and everyone is really nice. Through talking with the locals who have frequented Up and Under– it was known as a jazz bar. Hosting different jazz musicians. Currently, a lot of local bands frequently play here. It’s great seeing a local bar supporting bands in the Milwaukee area. If you want to check out some great artists, go on Monday nights for their open jams! It’s a lot of fun. My FAVORITE night is Wednesdays– karaōke night! They actually have some really talented people! Also, there can be a cover on Fridays and Saturdays, but it depends on the band. During the weekends the bands play– it will get loud. So be prepared! Overall, great drink prices, fabulous staff, LOVEIT!

I love me some local dive bar action, but sometimes the Up and Under is a little too much of both. The bathrooms are foul, no other way to put it. I mean, they’re New Orleans French Quarter level of disgusting. The beer prices are a bit high for a place that has a sagging floor, but I love that it doesn’t look like every other bar on the street. For music, it’s pretty good, one of the few places on the East Side that brings in a variety of music for cheap.

So the Up & Under is an ok place for the most part. Trivia on Tuesdays is fun… but the bathroom smell is not… nor is the insect skeleton I found on my glass rim or the musty taste of tap beer from dirty lines. I will say their music is generally good and the bartenders are friendly. They do have a menu here, but I wouldn’t be caught dead eating from it. Order yourself a can/bottle of beer and enjoy the Up & Under for what it is… a dive bar.

Maybe I went on a bad night. But it was SO bad, that I will not be going back in order to judge. We wandered in to catch some live music… and were immediately put off by the atmosphere of the place. I don’t think I’m a snob, but I do shower on an almost daily basis and I appreciate being in the company of people who do as well. We were immediately surrounded by crowds of grungy guys with questionably hygeine and no respect for our personal space. The band was decent, not awesome, but decent. The bathroom smelled like a sewer and had about half an inch of greyish water on the floor. I was wearing flats, and was not about to absorb whatever that was into my feet and bring it to my dysentary-free home. If you’re in the mood for some decent live music in a potentially health-hazardous environment, well then, strap on your utility boots, empty your bladder, and roll up to the bar to partake in some cheap suds, mediocre conversation, and make friends with the nearest toothless, creepy 60-year old eyeballing you. Just don’t call me.

Okay I have only been here once. I have outgrown the yelling conversation where you know you did not hear 60% of what the other person said but you nod and maintain a cheezy grin as if you did hear them and then segue into nodding along to the deafening music of the night with a glazed eyes until the next round of the lean and yell conversation. Seems to be for the 20’s scene and the odd creepers in their 60’s. I was there on Karaōke night where there was this a kind of quasi neighborhood sub culture celebrity karaōke singer thing going on. One visit was enough.

Good service, good beer, great shows! This place has had some of the most fun,(usually) cover-free and rockingest shows I have ever seen – including performances by my favorite Milwaukee band, The Danglers! Oh, wow, man… I have to stop in here some weekend and see a show; it’s been far too long.

Great selection of tap beers, fast service, reasonably priced. They also keep the kitchen open rather late with some delicious choices I might add. We got the pulled pork nachos and my were they yummy! They also have live music there all the time which is usually decent, only downside is the $ 5 cover.

Such friendly bartenders, super fun open-mic nights on Mondays, fun karaōke on Wednesdays. I like they have karaōke on the big screens so you can sing or sing along from the comfort of your bar stool. Everyone is so friendly and the place rocks!

Beer & Rock n Roll! Good combo! Up & Under is mostly known as a blues bar, and I’ve seen some really good blues bands here in the past, however lately there have been more rock shows happening there. My band just played there this past weekend and overall it was a pretty good time. The service is good even if it’s a little slow at times. The sound is okay but they really should invest in a better sound system. We were experiencing feedback from one of the mics for almost our entire set. There is a good beer selection on tap. Good sight lines of the stage from just about all over the bar. It’s a live music club with the feel of a corner tap.

Ah, stop number 2 on my Milwaukee drinking tour. My friend and I went here after hearing some live jam-band type music blaring out the door. I’m such a sucker for live music. At first it seemed like we were surrounded by a bunch of douchebags, but eventually they left, leaving us to enjoy the entertainment. The door guy was bored and invited us to sit at his table, where he proceeded to bum me cigarettes and buy us shots. I love Wisconsin! We had an awesome time, the bands were surprisingly good, and the bar staff seemed friendly. I also got to see some drunk girl fall off of her barstool. Music, free shots, and dumb drunk girl drama= the Trifecta for fun!

Decent drink prices and friendly service. WiFi is available for a fee. My boyfriend and I came here to watch football on a Sunday afternoon. We had a good time and there were several games on, including Bears… even in Packers country. Never been here at night, though!
