I was excited when they opened in East Milton a great location and nice décor but greatly disappointed with the food. We had the Turkey club which had absolutely NO flavor not enough turkey bacon was burnt and the brioche bun was dry. The Prosciutto mozzarella sandwich also had NO flavor .I had the banana bread pudding to go and a scone .The bread pudding was ice cold obviously FROZEN! Even after letting it defrost & warming it, it was heavy dry and NO flavor. The scone was fine. There are so many other restaurants with delicious fresh well prepared food so needless to say we will not be returning to The Plate.

Came in and ordered hot chocolate off their menu, they don’t have hot chocolate. Ordered breakfast off their giant breakfast menu, they don’t have breakfast. Ordered something else, no big deal. But the wait staff of teenage girls was pretty rude through the whole process.

So good! Chicken panini is amazing. They also have a lot of great homemade bakery stuff that’s delicious.

Lunch: Tuna salad sandwich. I enjoyed my sandwich. I recommend it. Pro: The portions are huge so you get two meals for the price of one. Con: When it gets cold outside and they loose seating space, it’s hard to fit people in the few stool chairs they have inside.

We found this place after a hike in the Blue Hills. The sandwiches were delicious. We had the butternut squash panini and the chicken curry sandwich. My daughter had a kids grilled cheese. Everything was seasonal and home-made. We will definitely be back. Their array of baked goods looked wonderful and I look forward to trying the breakfast sandwich. They also serve organic coffee which is a plus!

Fantastic joint to have in Milton Village! I really enjoy a place that sets a high bar of quality in the foods they are creating — and The Plate does this with excellence! The price is high however the value is quite fair due to the high quality and variation available. Sourcing good quality and local ingredients as available. I have enjoyed food that allows the simple taste of the ingredients to come through, but also plates that layers flavors or spices in ways that surprise me. There is often both hot and cold available in sandwich or entrée selections. Look to the winter for great take home meal options. The creativity is so appreciated and needed — I love that I can go in there and find some combination of a salad or sandwich that I’ve surely never had before. The continued inspiration displayed in the daily specials, or new menu additions, keeps me going back for more. Very small spacing for both inside and outside seating. To go is always an option.

After my first sampling a from The Plate, I have some mixed feelings. I stopped in around lunch time and there was a line out the door. Both my friend and I ordered the grilled cheese and while it was not bad, it was seriously lacking in cheese. It was a bit more like a grilled onion and pickled scallion sandwich with a cheese spread. I was expecting goody Gruyère to be oozing out of this thing, but sadly, no. Also, I was not happy when I poured soy milk in my coffee only to watch it curdle. The guy at the counter saw the whole thing and was kind enough to give me a new coffee, but, he also said that this happens all the time when you pour soy milk in hot coffee. Um, I put soy milk in hot coffee all the time at home and this never happens. Thought that was weird. I also bought some raspberry cookies and buttermilk biscuits to enjoy later. The cookies were excellent, nice and fresh and buttery. The biscuits were great as well. Very large and buttery with a nice consistency/texture. Atmosphere was a bit claustrophobic since it was so crowded but I’ll give this place another try. Right now, if recommend the baked items over the grilled cheese.

The Plate soup special is sweet potato with Indian spices it was delicious paired with the adult grilled cheese sandwich, very filling. An explosion of flavors, I definitely return here for lunchtime! In addition it’s clean and convenient on the redline station but small family business.

I have been to The Plate several times with all great experiences but today was a bad one. This morning we went in for take out and ordered 2 sandwiches & coffees. When we arrived, we had about 2 people in front of us. After we ordered, the line filled up really quickly. It took about 15 minutes for our sandwiches to come out and most of the people who arrived after us(including a family of 5) got their orders before ours. When we finally got our order, I told the server I was upset that it took so long to get our order; she didn’t even apologize– just rudely stated«I am not sure what happened» & then walked away… Not sure I will be back again as it seems they can’ t handle the lines.

I love this spot! You can tell the food is prepared with care and they use really fresh ingredients. I’ve only been here for lunch so I can speak mostly to their sandwiches. They always have specials that they post on Facebook daily. I love that they have spots outside but will be sad when its too cold to eat out there. My only complaint(which I understand they can’t do anything about!) is that there were more seating options.

The Only reason The Plate isn’t getting 5 stats from me is the price. But, this is what Starbucks is to coffee The Plate is to food. You pay more, you wait longer, but the food is Worth It! Even my pickiest child eater was an instant foodie over his breakfast biscuit minus the red pepper jelly. Same as it costs me at Starbucks for family breakfast, but the food and coffee here were excellent! Can’t wait to go back Monday new fave

Finally! There is a decent sandwich shop near Quincy. Really delicious and fresh sandwich. I tried the grilled chicken but everything looks good. Only down side is limited options. Only few sandwich and salad options very limited menu. More variety please.

I had a lunch order for 24 sandwiches. The Plate team stepped up and got it done. The food is great and the service is top notch. You will not be disappointed. Go there!

I have used The Plate for catering various casual parties over the years and my experience was always positive. The service was pleasant and the food fresh. We recently moved closer to The Plate and have been in multiple times for lunch and breakfast sandwiches– delicious. Today, I was running late and wanted to purchase a treat for our babysitter on my way home. I stopped in just after they had closed, but the woman sweeping the floor was nice enough to ask what I needed. She then let me in to purchase some baked goods, even though they had already closed. Awesome, I really appreciated it! Another bakery in Lower Mills saw me at the door the same day at 4:04 and did not even acknowledge me. I know where to keep taking my business! Thanks The Plate team for providing fresh catering, yummy lunch and human service!

Updating my review of 3⁄17. The food is still quite good and the menu is branching a bit which is great. There has been a marked improvement in the atmosphere over the past months. I’ve seen a stability emerge with a couple of key staff members and they’re setting a much better tone for the service. So to sum up… food quite good to excellent, the service very good at this point!

I love simple café settings and the Plate was just that. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and a smoky tomato soup. First off let me say, I typically do not like tomato soup so I asked cashier what it was like and she offered to give me a sample. That was a plus! I didn’t have to commit to something I didn’t like. And to my surprise it was really good. The grilled cheese was perfect, nice, hot and gooey. The two dishes complimented each other very well. The down side to my experience was that breakfast ended at 11am, I really wanted the egg sandwich. But what I did get was great. Also, I agree with some of the other Unilocalers, it is kind of pricey and not really equipped for dining in. But all in all, I really enjoyed it.

I was curious on what da heck is «handcrafted comfort food» as I drove by. So of course, I stopped and gave it a shot. I walked in and noticed that this is really more for takeout than actually eating there. I glanced at the menu — so sandwiches are comfort food! I wasn’t exactly in the mood for pricey sandwiches that didn’t sound to die for. Almost every sandwich has some sort of cheese in it. I suppose that’s what makes it artisan! I would try their grilled cheese if it was not $ 6.75 +$ 1 for bacon. I opted for mac & cheese for $ 3.99. She asked if I wanted bacon. Sure, I love bacon. I was probably charged an arm and a leg for that piece of bacon. Then I asked if they have water. They told me the bottle water is at the cooler but I kept staring at them. Finally, they asked if I prefer tap water. Yes, I prefer to have some fluoride for my aging teeth. After I paid, I took a seat at a stool by the window counter. There’s not so much space between the people standing and the window counter area. Very tight quarters. It took quite some time to make a pint of mac and cheese. I only know it’s a pint cuz they served it in a takeout soup container. I love mac and cheese but for over $ 4 for this, I rather have Kraft instead. The mac was overcooked, way too soft. It was breaking apart as I was digging into the pint. mixed in was tidbits of a piece of bacon — not so evenly mixed in of course. Flavor wise, it was just OK.

I stopped by because I was in the area and needed lunch. I was in Dorchester Center and Unilocal offerings seemed slim — this was the best of the bunch. The place is in a cute, section of Milton — like one street of cute shops. I decided on the beet and ricotta sandwich. The staff was super nice — I can only assume it was the owner who rang me up and then led me to the bathroom in the back. I got my food and was like, «ohhhh, that’s kinda little.» Especially for $ 7.50, which I think is a bit much. But I was more impressed as I started to eat. The ricotta was delicious — smooth, and rich and just a bit salty. The beets were tender and sweet and the arugula added a delicious bite. To be honest, this might be one of the best vegetarian sandwiches I’ve had. I was still a bit hungry, so thankfully I just ate the baby carrots I had sitting with me in the car. The bread was also really tasty, albeit a bit over-toasted as it had a solid crunch factor. It’d be nice if they offered carrot sticks, maybe a tiny bit of slaw or potato salad with their sandwiches, a few pickles or maybe tiny versions of their baked goods as a little something extra. I think it’s a pricey sandwich, especially when I’m in Milton… which I’m not gonna lie, feels like total small-town-USA. I continue to be surprised by how the outskirts of Boston charge what I would consider«big city prices.» That being said, it was a very good sandwich and the baked goods also looked delicious.
