We are still waiting for the server. I am writing this review a few months later, and we are still waiting. We actually had to walk around this restaurant several times to find our server for each step of our meal. I am not opposed to leisure, but this was absurd

Love their Hamburgers and it’s a true English pint of beer. Would have given it 5 stars but the portion size on the Shepards pie was too tiny. My husband was very disappointed. It tasted great but for the price it was too small.

Oh, I just adore this place. Truly English with classic pub grub and beers. One cannot beat the quaint interior– it transports you to North London.

Unilocal’s headline description of the Shipp is definitively WRONG… Categorized as a traditional American pub on this site, make no mistake that the Shipp is extremely, authentically, might as well be over there British. It is also one of those rare places in Jersey that transports you not only to another place but in a sense to another time as well. Having lived in London, it made me miss my home and local watering holes there. Though yes, a pub, that’s a rather different animal in the UK(Over there it’s a badger…), and while it may seem obvious, ‘course it’s a very specific kind of(slightly wonky to our palettes) food. Best to be sure you both like and are in the mood for it. But if so, or if merely feeling a bit adventurous, it’s a unique destination(As are Milford and the surrounding Delaware River towns themselves) and experience in a state full of places with Americanized takes on its original theme.

After finding The Ship Inn on Unilocal,my group and I decided to check it out and we were very happy we did. This English style pub & brewery was a delight with good food and friendly, helpful staff. My husband and I tried the house brewed golden wheat ale and really enjoyed it: light, flavorful and easy to drink. For our meals, 3 of us had the signature galley burger and it was deelish. And they provide vinegar for their fries, which we all loved. The only thing that has me holding back a star is that the 4th member of our group described his sesame chicken wrap as «okay», but that might have been because he was expecting something more Asian inspired. The building itself was charming and quirky with lots of history(1st restaurant in New Jersey to serve beer brewed on premises — cool). Would definitely go back and definitely recommend.

An interesting old building(does look like a ship) with a small Brewery. Beer was just OK. A little thin and lacked depth in taste, but the Fish and Chips was one of the best I ever had, and I have had a lot. Crispy on outside and flaky and juicy on inside. Was made with Basa fish(first time I had that fish in a Fish and Chips). I was pleasantly surprised. Owner was so helpful and conversational(maybe a hair too much) and gave us a tour of his tiny brewing area. I would go back for the Fish, but I would try another beer not made there next time. Fish is worth and hour drive.

Had dinner there with my brother. I ordered the fish and chips and he had the mac and cheese with bacon and chicken. We intended share each other’s dinner. The mac and cheese was good but expensive at $ 19.99 considering it was an entrée it didn’t come with a salad or side. The fish and chips had two nice size pieces of fish for $ 15.99 — no salad either. It was ok. The place was loud. We both enjoyed the food. I suggest doing what we did and stop by and make your own plate. We did have a beer, but we’re not microbrewery people so it wouldn’t be fair to comment. We both had a nice time and that’s what matter.

This place is a cool British style pub in the heart of downtown Milford. They brew their own beers which are really good and their Fish and Chips are exactly how they should be… Just simple, to the point, and exactly how it should be served up in a place like this. The customer service could be better, but the authentic feel of the building and décor keep your mind off of it. Not quite 5 stars, but definitely worth of 4. Swing by and take a cheap trip to merry ol’ England! Lol

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend in NJ touring various wineries and were SO lucky to find this place. Hands down, the best food we had our entire trip(the adult mac and cheese was TODIEFOR!) and we had an awesome server as well. We are definitely going to be coming back to the Ship Inn on our next trip up this way, but we highly recommend it! 5 out of 5 stars and they totally deserve it. The view from our table was nice too, overlooking a beautiful and peaceful creek.

Best fish and chips. Not a fancy tempura battered fluffy over sauced interpretation. Simple perfect fish and chips with peas pudding. House made beers are Britain in a glass. Highly recommend

Friendly staff, pub beer was flat and tasteless(I had the Wheat) so I had to switch to bottled wine. The waitress did remove the beer from my check. Food was below par. My daughter had soggy chicken wings, I had an very generic Shepard’s Pie(though they mentioned it was a favorite), and my wife had an overwhelmingly salty roast beef. My son on the other hand was OK, but he only had the kids pasta(pasta, butter, and cup of cheese). Hopefully this is not the norm, because it is a very unique looking place.

Spent a weekend in Milford and the Ship Inn microbrewery and brewpub was at the top of our list of things to do in town. The bar has great crowd-pleasing beers on tap — the three we tried(the golden wheat, River rye, and muddy waters) were each sampled and enjoyed by the group. Felt like a perfect blend of the best elements from an English pub and a local’s favorite Midwestern bar with a lively, friendly atmosphere and really terrific service. Tip: order the ribbon fries(aka amazing house made chips) and don’t skip the horseradish remoulade to round out your chips and dip experience. I guarantee that plate won’t last long! Will definitely be back to sample their hand pumped cask ale and try more of the menu.

The authenticity of the aged pub, the British house brewed beers, and the food earn this place 4 stars. The bartender’s incredible mustache earns the fifth star

The atmosphere alone would bring me back here, Lovely bar, wonderful veiw from select seating. I really enjoyed a little taste of England. The fish and chips were tasty and fresh, the fries were just right and for the first time I used vinegar(provided on the table).YUM! Definitely worth it.

I first discovered The Ship Inn while looking for restaurants in New Jersey that brew their own beer. After hearing that it was the first brewpub in the state to resume in-house operations after Prohibition, my curiosity was piqued and I was eager to try it out. Finding myself(relatively) in the area, I stopped in for dinner recently and was not disappointed. I ordered their Golden Wheat Light beer(«…light in color, not in calories», to quote the menu) and it was quite good. I think the tagline is spot-on here, as despite the light color of the beer, it had a full body and plenty of flavor to go around. I prefer light to medium brews, but they also have plenty of options which will suit seasoned veterans of IPAs and stouts. And best of all, if you enjoy your beer, you can take home an entire growler’s worth! They’ll even discount the price a bit if you present the receipt from your meal. For eats, I was delighted to find the elusive Cornish pasty on the menu and it likewise lived up to my high expectations. Pastry crust was buttery and flaky, meat and potato interior was juicy and flavorful, and the thick gravy only added to the savory goodness of this delicacy. The English chips were also quite tasty. Props to them for having malt vinegar readily available as condiment for the chips. This was a much appreciated authentic touch. My girlfriend ordered the Shepard’s(cottage) pie, which was similarly impressive. For dessert, we had the bread pudding with warm custard, which was a real treat and perfect way to end the meal. All totaled, both the food and service were top notch and it was an excellent dining experience overall. The one downside of The Ship Inn is the high prices and small portions(of food, not beer… they serve 20 oz English-style pints!). However, authentic English fare is not easy to come by, so I can hardly fault them for charging a small premium. I will definitely be returning.

Went for birthday drinks with a friend. Service was awesome and staff was really friendly. Had some hard cider that was delicious. Kitchen closed early for a Saturday but it was understandable, after all this is a sleepy river town. Overall service would get a five star… except… Being in the bar industry I was appalled at that state of the bathroom. Theory is the more women in your bar, more men will come and this equals more sales but you will NOT get women to return if the bathrooms are gross. The state of the bathrooms at the Ship Inn were disgusting. One toilet totally clogged and overflowing and paper towels everywhere on the floor from the overflowing trash can. It screams bad management. A bit of clean up and this place would be great.

This was my first time here. The Ship Inn Restaurant and Brewery is located in a small quaint town called Milford. It’s on the border of the Delaware River. It’s in an old house. This place really gives you the feel of a British pub. Nautical decorations that look original and old adorn the ceiling and walls of this place along with local art work on the walls. The carpet is plaid and the bar and tables are made up of old doors and parts of wood from a bowling alley. Above the bar hangs pewter beer mugs. In order to get one of these special mugs, one must purchase and drink 1 beer of every kind that’s listed on flier. U check it off each time u come. Once that’s done u receive a mug and once a year a special party is thrown for all those who’ve acquired a mug. The SIRB makes and sells their own ales and craft beers. Each is made in limited quantities. when it’s gone it’s gone until the next batch. U can see the beer making process step by step when the brewmaster is there. They have growlers for sale which are reusable and it’s a great way to take home craft beers. The bar has 8 beers on tap at any one time. Some of the beers are hand pumped just like in England. I started with scotch eggs and several dipping sauces.(hard boiled eggs wrapped in sausage meat, breaded and fried.) this place serves theirs cold. They were good, and the hot sauce and piccalilli were great accompaniments. My main dish was a fried fish sandwich on a brioche bun. The fries were great! They had the skins on them and were crispy. My friend had the fish n chips. One piece was ordered and it was huge. The fish n chips were cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and tender fish on the inside. I would highly recommend ordering this. The fries were the same as mine. Delicious ! The bartender and our server was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of all the beers and spirits. I tried the Panhead Porter, it was wonderful! My friend tried Best Bitter also very good. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or if you want some tasty beer.

I have been to The Ship Inn a dozen times or more and the service and food never disappoint. The fish and chips are always excellent, never greasy. This is probably their best dish. The fish melts in your mouth, the batter is sweet and crispy. Other British pub fare is also tasty. Their local brews are good. The servers are always attentive. They offer some other choices besides the standard bar food. And do not pass on their desserts, especially the English trifle, a yummy concoction of sponge cake, berries, some liquor and whipped crème all in a parfait glass! Park across the street in the municipal lot, this small town doesn’t have a lot of on street parking. Enjoy!
