Taqueria El Gallo De Jalisco

If I knew this was the same owner as the one I visited before a while back on Florida Ave. I would have not dined in. Service was friendly. You sit yourself and grab a menu on the table. It is a casual place. I wanted to try some authentic mexican street tacos and thought maybe this would be the place to get them. I was wrong. I had the carnita, carne asada, pollo, and lengua soft tacos to try. The only one that was decent was the carnitas. The chicken was dry, no flavor at all. Lengua tasted like it needed to be washed/​cleaned better. The carne asada was salty as hell. The salsa they put on the tacos are not even spicy or flavorful. They throw a shit load of onions on the tacos too. Their food is not flavorful and they need to improve on their salsas because even the one on the table for chips sucked. I would not recommend this place for anyone who is looking for real authentic mexican street tacos.

Some things are meant to be simple.
Corn, flour, meat, onion, cilantro, limes, all topped off with a homemade hot sauce. All that goodness double wrapped in the tortilla, folded and eaten. Simple, no pretense, the food of the masses. The stuff you can drive a mile and everyone else is striving for this kind of quality.
Oh, but there’s nothing simple about the tacos here, or as near as I could tell, anything else that was coming out of the kitchen door and served to smiling faces. Large bowls of steaming soups laced with bits of corn, meat and vegetables in a savory broth had our fellow diners faces down in the steam. Something special is going on here.
A friend and I were returning from 3 days of hiking in Big Bend National Park about 2 hours south of here and sought world class Mexican food with a vengeance.

We arrive at an impossible early time for lunch because of a flight we had to catch. 10:55 a.m., that time of day most restaurants can’t hit their stride. Within minutes of being seated the crowd starts coming. Construction workers, a family of three with an elderly man in a wheelchair – the waitress gives him a hug and a kiss but it’s clear he’s just a customer, not family. Guys that look like they might be close to homeless and folks that have driven from the local office with their ties on, they’re all here consuming the magic that’s going on. Oh, and two guys with sore legs, backs and hips from 30 miles of hiking at 7 – 8,000 feet, blissful looks on their face as Mexican Cokes are downed with heavenly tacos of lengua, pollo, steak and pork.
Damn, but if I ever return to Midland, Texas, with the purpose of heading back to Big Bend, the 7 – 8 mile backtrack away from the park and the extra driving time to this restaurant will be in the cards. This my hiking friend and I made a pact. Skip the lunch in Dallas airport, hunger for that big bowl of soup everyone was having with big slices of avocado. We’ll be back. May be a year, but you don’t forget food this good.
If you come: the TV will be blaring MTV style videos of Mexican guys and gals in tight jeans and hats with accordions and guitars. Cinder block building, industrial area clearly not intended for a restaurant but do not let that deter. Big orange exterior with restaurant name. You’ll pass a dozen similar places from the interstate. Don’t you dare drive by. Big, roomy, friendly no-​nonesense waitresses, pay at the front cash register. Waitresses spoke English fine but we still attempted to order in our best 2^nd grade Spanish. They smiled, so did we.

Love the food… it’s not fancy like other mexican resturant but food is the best then other resturant… waitress don’t speak English well but very good service …

Food is delicious. I order the torta de milanesa omg super good… my hubby ask for tacos carne al gusto he ask for tripitas n carne asada… they were good and well served… n for my kids nachos de carne asada… they were huge couldn’t finished them… n well served… the atmosphere was good n waiters were sweet n kind with my kids… will definitely going back…

Great food, classic atmosphere, had a great time with the kids. A mariachi band even came through and took requests from different tables. Glad to have found this place.

love this place! we go here once a week! fast service and the tacos de tripitas are amazing! Used to they now have terrible service and food is not as good :(

I was in Midland on business from Pittsburgh and, being a fan of Mexican food, thought I’d try out the local fare. After a disappointingly bland «Taco Bell» like meal at a restaurant that was highly rated on Unilocal,I thought I’d try a place that appeared to cater to the local Latino community. Upon walking into Taqueria El Gallo De Jalisco, I realized that I would not be disappointed. The simply appointed restaurant was packed. I ordered the taco plate, selecting two beef and three pork tacos, along with their excellent horchata. The food lived up to my expectations. The tacos were served with extra green and red salsa. The red was moderately spicy with a smoky flavor. The taco meat had excellent flavor. This taqueria offers soups, burritos, and a wide variety of Mexican specialties. If I ever get back to Midland, I’ll defiantly eat here again.

Service is fast sat down and less then five minutes. I was sipping on Agua horchata and staring at my Caddo De rez and tacos de lengua.
