Midland International Airport – MAF

Want to know what flying out of an air base in Iraq is like? This is no exaggeration: flat, desert, no trees, ascend over the tops of endless miles of oil fields. It’s very, very clear what drives this airport and why it’s here. The inside of the terminal lined with advertisements for oil companies and oil field equipment.
And yet, proximity to world class Mexican food, but I digress.
5 gates will have you not confused about where you arrive or depart. Fairly modern, spartan, and clean. Nothing to get excited about, and if you’re reading airport reviews for that purpose: GET A LIFE.

I’ll likely be back, next time I decide to visit Big Bend National Park, the single reason why I’d ever fly in here.

Small airport proud city with about 6 terminals… Nice place to go threw not to much traffic… Security is small

‘Market Fresh’ and ‘Pepper’s Mexican’ are crap little eateries in MAF. It’s 8 o’clock on a Tuesday and they’re closed. The only thing open is the gift shop, touting awful mountains of pseudo-​Texas memorabilia, like baby Bush Jr reading «miss me yet», made in China and the obligatory travel headphones and single use toothbrushes, magazines about nothing, the usual. The food here is sub-​par at best when the dining areas are open.
This airport is at the bottom of my list of all the many airports I’ve traveled to, including airports in Turkey.

You don’t need many frills — it has wifi and there are plenty of charging stations. The flight folks there are just fine. They also just got us in and our quickly. Didn’t really see much more of the airport because there isn’t much — but I love being able to watch all the general aviation while you are waiting for your flight.
Got through security in about 2 minutes and the car rental folks were really fast. That is unlike most places that want to do a full background check on it – it was quick and easy to get in and out of there.

The only thing I like about this airport is that it is not busy really. Other than that this is a sad old airport. This is the closest airport from me so I have no other choice. lol
Flights coming in and out of midland are expensive as fuhhhhhhhhh and I am not sure why.
There are those times where the security line can be hellaaaaaaaaaaaaaa long and there’s only one TSA agent to check your ticket and ID. Get there at least an 1 hr early if you have to check in your bags just in case.
