Hot Head Burritos

We just moved to the area and were frequent Chipotle goers before the move. I did not try the guacamole yet so I cannot compare that, but the quesadillas and burritos were great! I really like that there is a rewards program and the prices definitely seemed better than Chipotle. What I was really impressed with was the customer service. There were three gentlemen working and I came in later on a weeknight. I always think its a great sign when a place is clean, the staff is friendly and the food is fresh when you are close to closing time at a restaurant. Being my first time at a Hot Head Burritos I had questions and needed a little help figuring out my order. The staff was extremely patient and provided suggestions. They made me feel very welcome. The only individual’s name who I caught was Tony, but all three gentlemen were great.

I read a review from a fellow Texan that said this food was bland. I decided to try it anyway. I will say there was absolutely no flavor in the taco meat, guacamole was some green slime with no peppers or seasoning, the maker of my burrito put two scoops of sour cream on it. I had to scrap 90% of it off. No one ever needs that much sour cream.
I found it very disappointing and added salt and pepper to mine to get make it tolerable. If you’re looking for portion control you can definitely eat here, the burritos are huge but you’ll only eat enough of the bland mess to curb your hunger till the next meal.
Positive notes, it was clean, fast, friendly service, good location.
Lastly, hot sauce apparently has a different meaning in Ohio than in Texas. If I come back I’m trying the ‘sweet’ Hawaiian burrito.

Good, but I like the other place better. You will love one or the other. The choice of sauces is odd. The pork is really good!

Basically the same set up: what kind of nine dollar burrito would you like? The quality of the food seems to be a bit lower. The employees don’t follow the same methodology of burrito construction that the menu presents, so that can be a bit confusing.
The positive take away I got from this place was it secured the niche of having a wide variety of spicy to choose from. You know, a bunch of red bottled elixirs that are roughly indigestible.
I’m hoping it was just a bad one-​off experience, but this place kinda smelled like turds and B.O.

I love this place and consider it a better alternative to Chipotle. First off, it’s cheaper. Secondly, it tastes better. It’s got the same things as Chipotle — burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, etc. but more options such as spicy and regular chicken and about 12 sauces to choose from. The burrito bowl can get a little watery if they add too much sauce, so I don’t get sauce anymore. Make sure to get a stamp with each dish for a free burrito and double stamp day is Tuesday.

I can’t say it’s better than Chipotle, but I do like their selection of spicey sauces. Their sticker cards are nice too. 10^th burrito/​bowl is free.

Hot Head Burritos is a chain, indeed. Another in a long chain of Chipotle imitators that hasn’t shaken the «chain» mentality of serving pre-​made, processed food. And of all the Chipotle wannabes, Hot Head is the weakest link.
A friend told me that he liked all the different sauces and spice levels offered at Hot Head Burritos and, being a heat-​seeking hot head, myself, I decided to give it a try. I really wish I hadn’t. Hot Head Burritos charges the exact same amount of money for a burrito bowl as Chipotle but lacks the fresh ingredients and cruelty-​free chicken.
So, since I couldn’t be sure that the chicken in my bowl had led a happy, carefree existence, I tried the vegetarian bowl. I love (although «love» seems too mild a word) guacamole. And since guacamole comes with the vegetarian burrito bowl, it seemed like a decent choice. But their guacamole is like the stuff you get out of a grocery store package. It was green and pasty, like a guacamole imposter. Blech.
The rice was bland. The deconstructed salsas (I’m kidding, it’s really just corn and tomatoes) are a joke. The lettuce is iceberg lettuce. I thought they gave up on iceberg lettuce in the nineties.
Now, about those sauces (the main reason I decided to try Hot Head). When I asked the young woman who was constructing this crime against Tex-​Mex which sauce would pair well with the vegetarian bowl, she gave me an answer just as generic as the place itself. She said, «People seem to like the Hot Head sauce. It’s sort of garlicky.» Yeah, it’s garlicky in the way that the guacamole is sort of guacamole-​y. Which is to say, it’s not. What it was was unpleasant. It did not play nicely with the other flavors in the bowl and on its own, it was just weird.
The kids there are nice enough though. Actually, they’re nicer than the folks at Chipotle. That’s the only reason I didn’t give Hot Head one star.
Also, I do have to point out that the place smelled really funky when I walked into the restaurant. Like, old mop water funky and definitely not appetizing.
And it looks like a diner.
Just do what Willie Nelson and I do and support Chipotle. The family farmers of America AND your taste buds will thank you for it.

I have eaten at Hot Head Burritos several times, and each time the food has been good. Obviously, the comparison is to Chipotle, Moe’s or Qdoba, and rightfully so. There is a slim difference between many of these restaurants, but the one thing that Hot Head has above the others is the variety of sauces. The combination of toppings (meats, veggies, etc.) is fairly similar, but mix in some sweet and spicy and you have a decent burrito bowl. I also give Hot Head bonus points for serving Pepsi products over Coke — just a personal preference. Hot Head is worth a try, but if you want a burrito or burrito bowl and you’re closer to a Chipotle or even a Qdoba, save the money on gas. Go to a Hot Head when you are close to one, and you’ll probably like it.
