I used to enjoy this place, a local spot to get a meal and beer. The service was never great, and the prices have always been steep for the quality and quantity. Up until yesterday I stuck it out to support a local business, but I will never go there again. We attended what was supposed to be a very casual dinner as a group, we pre-ordered sandwiches(you weren’t able to order kids food ahead of time) and I think there were 20 adults and 5 young kids who came. When we got there, there were no tables set up for the group so we had to do it ourselves. Fine, not a big deal. There were several kids in attendance but the restaurant only has two high chairs. Ok, we will hold the babies in our laps. A few minutes after we got settled, the waitresses came out with food and barked out the orders for us to claim them. They said they were frustrated that we didn’t know our orders by the names they were using. Ok, keep that to yourself. We got our food right away. As the two year old and twin one-year olds at our table got more and more restless, we asked to order them chicken fingers and hot dogs. The waitress snapped that we would have to wait until all the adults were served first, then they would be back to take orders for kids. She seemed to think we were not only a nuisance but that we were intentionally screwing up her Saturday afternoon. Any person with common sense knows you can’t eat in front of hungry kids. She blamed it on the owner, who was hovering around and barking at the waitresses. So we started feeding the babies from our sandwiches so they would stop melting down. Shockingly, telling them«sorry, kid you just need to wait fifteen minutes to order your chicken fingers» didn’t work lol. So yeah, rude waitresses, an inhospitable owner, dingy carpet and wall coverings, mediocre quality food, high prices for beer and wine and food, DONOTGOHERE. There are many better options nearby.

This may be the strangest place I have ever been to, it’s like you walked into the most run down restaurant in the world that’s stuck in the ’50’s. From the staff, interior, liquor, menu and clientele. We were meeting friends that live down the road from Cypress, which is the only reason why they go there. We walked into the restaurant and it was very uninviting. There was a graduation party going on in one side of the bar, and on half of the back patio, other than that there were no customers. I have no idea how this place is still in business, they truly need a rescue.

this place may not look like much from the outside but looks can be deceiving. go on the nights they have live music. it is soooo worth it! great atmosphere(friendly staff), large menu, consistently good food, & cheap prices. more than worthy of 5 stars.

You probably drove past this place a million times and never thought to stop in and try it out. I strongly recommend you do. I have to admit, from the outside, it doesn’t look like much. It’s not a fancy-schmancy kind of place so if your expectation is white table cloths, a sommelier and some kind of molecular gastronomy in your amuse bouche, keep driving. But if you don’t feel like cooking, you’re tired of pizza and want to go somewhere to kick back and have a meal that’s not gonna break the bank, then this is the place. I’ve now been here on numerous occasions and the food has always been great. The specials are very good, home-cooking kind of quality. I think this might be Middletown’s best kept secret. Another thing that can be a pro or a con for you is the music. A couple of nights a week this place hosts a darn fine music scene. So if you want free live entertainment and a bite to eat… look no further. The music doesn’t start til about 8 if you want/need to avoid that. This place is also just a nice friendly neighborhood bar. Good place to meet for a drink with friends, watch a game, or check out some live music… or all three!

Good place for drinks and appetizers. AVOID the seafood entrees! My father took my husband out for a birthday dinner. We’ve always driven by this place and noticed it was packed every time. So we went on a week night in the middle of the week. The interior is very nice, clean and has a good smell to the place. It was early on a Tuesday night so the restaurant was understandably early. Our waitress did not know the specials of the night and referred us to a white board which we passed on the way in. Turns out they didn’t really have much. It was one entrée and a list of the desserts. Our waitress asked immediately if we had questions on the menu. The menu is huge and contains a lot of seafood. My father saw one dish and wanted to replace the cod with shrimp. She told us we couldn’t because they«portion everything.» This raised a red flag with me because usually when they say that, it usually means they freeze all their food. I should’ve spoken up at the time but I ignored it. They served my daughter very quickly(since she’s a hungry toddler). She ordered a hotdog which she ate every bite. My husband had a bite too and said it was pretty good. The waitress was kind enough to punch the order as a hotdog and fries instead of the regular children’s menu to make it less expensive. So we were appreciative of that. My father split an order of calamari with my husband. The calamari was good in texture. It wasn’t the best he’s ever had but he said it was pretty decent. Good bar food if you’re coming in for a cocktail. His meal came with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder which he said was really delicious. My husband ordered a burger and said it was ok. Not amazing, but not terrible either. I ordered an antipasto salad without anchovies which was pretty good. I wouldn’t have paid $ 8 for what I got, but it was decent none-the-less. That’s when things took a turn. My father ordered stuffed shrimp. Three large shrimp came out with the mushiest stuffing inside. I don’t eat seafood and I could tell it was not fresh shrimp. It was really obvious that it was frozen and thawed in a microwave. He had difficulty getting the skin off the shrimp. It looked like it was stuck on the meat and difficult to get off. He couldn’t really eat it so he sent it back. The waitress was very polite, took the dish off the bill and asked several times if he’d like something else to eat. My father said that the shrimp was just odd tasting and the mushy stuffing was making his stomach turn. The owner then came out and began to show my father(who has been eating seafood his whole life) how the food was cooked and how to take the skin off of a stuffed shrimp. During said demonstration, the skin broke off in several places and he had difficulty removing it as well. But he played the part well. My father politely humored him and just declined to get other food. He did eat the sweet potato fries that came with the dish and drank his tea and started to feel better toward the end of the night. I just couldn’t believe that the owner would come up and lie to our faces about how the shrimp was not frozen. That kind of made the whole bad situation worse. Bottom line: I would return here. But I would not have dinner or bring anyone who had an interest in eating seafood. This place looks like a great place to have a few drinks and appetizers. Maybe after a few drinks you won’t care what the food tastes like. I get the impression that coming here is hit or miss when it comes to the food. They do have a nice stage for some live music, so I would like to come back for their appetizers and drinks. Nothing more.

I went there with my dad and my uncle and his wife last week. We had been there a couple of years ago and this trip was better. I got the special, a «mac and ground beef goulash». Doesn’t sound like much, I know, but it was nicely seasoned. Service was friendly and attentive. Ambiance is a bit worn around the edges but not bad at all.

This place was not at all what I expected! I came here because my dads band had a gig and also had the chance to sing with the band. The owner was so friendly, the waitresses was also friendly and very helpful! Prices are also very reasonable. I had the open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes. The turkey was fresh and oven roasted. It was very yummy. The only thing that would have made it better, stuffing. It came with Lima beans instead which I thought did not really fit in with the meal. My roommate had the wings which were crispy ans sauced perfectly. My sister had the cheeseburger club, which was also very tasty. The friesnwerengolden and crispy! Yummy! My boyfriend had the Italian trio. Everything was homemade and in a very yummy sauce. The meals came with soup or salad and bread also. This place is a must try. The locals and staff are very friendly and the food is terrific!

This establishment is operated by two musical twins. Jimmy and Joe if memory serves. Nice guys, they love music and enjoy running shows. There was no cover on this night. The waitress was very helpful and pleasant. She mentioned that she had been working in this same place for the last ten years. Our party of four arrived a bit early to ensure decent seats near the stage. We had sandwiches and appetizers while we waited. Appetizers — Stuffed mushrooms. The app came out with three large stuffed mushrooms on a plate. They were good, but a bit disappointing that a party of four would be served three stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Rubens — one pastrami and one corned beef, Sausage grinder with sauce, these are sausage patties, not sausage links, served on a grinder roll, Turkey club served traditionally with toothpicks cut in quarters. The default side order is natural cut fries(skins on). The waitress was happy to substitute other things for the fries. One member of our party did substitute pickled beets and was happy with that option. We all agreed that as far as bar food is concerned this food was prepared well, not large portions of anything but the right sized portions for average eaters. There was a TV there off to the side so sports fans could follow the game, without detracting from the live music. The band was fun. The venue was full, but not overcrowded. Good time, great place. This was our first visit, I can see some nice outside seating with a water view, I believe this will be a nice summertime stop as well.

I went here once in a snow storm only out of shock that it wasn’t closed. When I walked in, I felt as though I would be intruding upon«the locals» but that wasn’t the case at all. The owners were very happy to see new faces coming into their restaurant. I ordered the turkey club(I consider that my «safe» meal) and was happily surprised. It was oven roasted turkey! How awesome! I was so thrilled it was a well put together turkey sandwich that the owner heard me say«Wow!» and laughed. The fries were golden and crispy as well. We hurried up and finis ed because the storm was getting worse, but it was a nice down home little place… and I’ll always remember it for the friendly smiles as we walked in on that snowy night.
