We spent $ 45 on a huge meal to go thinking under new management we would get a delicious meal. WRONG. The General Tso’s chicken was more breading than chicken and was bland and not spicy at all. The House Rice was tasteless as hell. The beef sticks were over cooked and more like beef jerky. The egg rolls were terrible and tasteless and the wrappers soggy. We ordered crab rangoons and they were barely acceptable but they gave hardly any sauce with them. The dumplings were overcooked and the sauce was not good either. We were so disappointed and would have gone in and complained but they spoke such poor English I don’t think they would have understood or done a thing about it, either. We will never go back. I recommend if you want decent Chinese food in Middlebury you head down Route 7 and go to the other place. They put real effort into their cooking.

Often get to stop by restaurants whilst passing through middlebury. Saw that a new Chinese place opened up so we decided to stop by. Agree with previous reviewer who stated that Rice was notable for its cleanliness and friendly welcome. Got 3 dinner combos(~7.50 each) with rice, egg roll and 2 crab rangoons. General tsos was the crispiest I’ve ever had. Chicken and broccoli and vegetables with tofu were good. Crab Rangoon among best I’ve had.

Just tried this place out last week. I tried a lot of different things. Hot & Sour soup was pleasantly spicy with a good sour note, pan fried dumplings were delicious and dough wasn’t too thick, crab rangoons were ok(needed a little more seasoning in the filling), sweet & sour chicken was good and crispy with a light batter, Lo mein was good with lots of meat and tender noodles, Massaman curry was good too. The white and fried rice were excellent as well. Everything was reasonably priced with healthy quantities of food. Lady who helped me with my takeout was very nice and made sure I had everything. Perfect place for lunch, dinner, or late night eats! Open until 11pm.

So glad I finally got to try this place. Rice has restored my faith in local Chinese cuisine. My immediate reaction was how clean this place is. Next thing was a welcoming and friendly woman who took my order. She offered hot tea while I waited for my take out order which was perfect for this blustery first day of October. The food was not disappointing. These days, I expect frozen products at places like this. This is not one of those places. Eggrolls, rangoons and scallion pancake appeared house made and all were fresh tasting and made with perfect blends of the usual ingredients. Seasoned with the Asian essence I miss in most fast food places. But most obvious to me was the care that was taken to fold and roll each piece with technique, clearly not cloned by machine. Shrimp with lobster sauce had fresh zucchini, carrots, mushrooms along with baby corn, water chestnuts, and pork. I was so glad to see this version instead of the brown meat gravy and tiny shrimp that is most often served. So now I can add another reason(Lobby, Costello’s and Nino) to visit Middlebury more often.

If you are looking for delicious, cheap food, available until late at night, then look no further than Rice! We ate in the restaurant the first time, and had great service. The owner/manager lady that was there that night was super friendly and def went above and beyond her required duties. We enjoyed the food and service so much, we decided to get take out there a second time. Would definitely return for fast, well above average Chinese food.
