The inside is beautiful. Food is good, service is great. Definitely have to try if your in town. Great salad bar. They have everything.

Disappointed. This place was great a few years ago. I got a steak and there was just no flair to it. Salad bar was bad. This place was not at all worth the price! The only thing decent was the décor and the french fries. Will not be returning extremely over priced. Spent $ 75.00 including tip on a 2 person meal. Not impressed.

Nice, quirky restaurant with lots of food options and a sweet salad bar. Had a great Mother’s Day lunch here. Our party tried a bunch of different food including: Chipotle Habenaro hot wings, fish and chips, some steak and of course the salad bar. No complaints with any of the food and the fish and chips was on par with some of the best I’ve had. Our waitress was attentive, quick, and nice. The décor is plentiful and fun to look at.

Throw back. Great salad bar. Steak was just ok. Friendly people but I reserve 4 and 5 stars for places I can’t wait to get back too.

This is my husband and I’s place to go for Valentine’s Day. We may not make it every year due to the snowfall but this year we made it, albeit a bit late for our reservation due to an unexpected trip to Foster Motors to purchase a new Jeep. The staff at Fire & Ice were so nice to still hold our reservation even though we were late on a holiday. Our waitress was great and very chipper! The food was excellent as always. My husband getting the Prime Rib and Lobster special and I the lobster stuffed filet we were both very happy with our selections. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a nice dinner surrounded by great atmosphere and good service.

I love Fire & Ice! The atmosphere, food, and service(Bob was great!) are amazing! The atmosphere is without any doubt among the best in Vermont! It’s very unique(in a very good way) with nooks, crannies, and intimate settings with just a few tables in each area rather than a single large dining room. The upper level overlooking the bar is awesome! The salad bar is great! The entire menu looks delicious and offers something for everyone! I went with the Nantucket Steak Tips and was very happy – it was very good! Fire & Ice has amazing atmosphere and food – I very strongly recommend!

Worst and weirdest dinner experience… there were 4 of us and we all ordered the Rockport steak and lobster dinner. It took an hour to get our food, and when it arrived all four were stone cold and the sauce was congealed. We told our waitress, and she rudely responded«What do you want me to do?»… multiple times. We indicated we wanted it heated or a different meal. The plates were even cold. A manager finally came over 10 minutes later. We weren’t offered another meal, only to take the one we had home to heat it up on our own. We explained that we wanted to pay for a meal we could eat. This was not an option. So dissatisfied with their response and«remedy». We left hungry and disappointed. A simple«I’m so sorry, can I heat this for you or get you something else?» would have been all we needed. You have lost 4 life long customers as well as everyone we meet.

Fire & Ice is my favorite restaurant in Middlebury. The atmosphere is so fun and the decorations are fascinating to look at. Food is good.

Hadn’t been here in about 8 years. It still had all of its charm. The décor is a chief reason to go. It was packed, but despite no reservation on a busy Friday night we’re seated within 30 minutes as promised. The food was good — I guess my lament is – the menu is basically exactly the same. Nothing new or interesting. It starts to feel like a truly overpriced Ponderosa… nothing on the menu tells you are in VT – nothing local or interesting on special, etc. Other than the free milk and cheese… not much Vermont here. And the salad bar is scaled back, which is ok and understandable since it’s now EXTRAFOREVERYENTREE. – yikes.

The ambiance of the place is fun. It is good quality for the price. Its worth eating at once for sure if visiting the area just to check out.

Drove 3 hours from N. Y to spend the weekend in Vermont. One of my main stops being Fire&Ice.Loved coming here years ago while on family returning here 20 years later I was ecstatic but left very disappointed. I love this place for the endless décor and that’s about it. We were not greeted in fact everyone from the hostess, to the«owner”(a name tag on his shirt said owner) to the waitress were just plain miserable and rude. food was ok nothing special but service was terrible. wont be returning.

During a visit to Middlebury, we had dinner at Fire and Ice. The service was quick and hospitable. The menu offered a great selection of fairly diverse menu items. We all had different menu items, and we all loved what we were served. Plus, a «bread bar» comes with the meal, enabling each customer to choose among several homemade breads in whatever quantity they desire. The beef and seafood tasted very fresh, as did everything we chose from the salad bar. The ambience is wonderful at Fire and Ice. Seating is available for those who want to enjoy the game on the big screen, or those who prefer a darker, more romantic dinner environment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful dinner.

Setting aside the food for a minute, you need to come to Fire and Ice simply for the experience. The restaurant is something of a museum, a cultural landmark. Every inch is packed with interesting artifacts, many of them from Middlebury history!(Btw, the restaurant has been owned and managed by the same family for decades!) Each room has a theme, and you’d better remember the name of your room because you’re likely to get lost your first time here! Then there’s the famous salad bar, which is an understatement. In the center of the ballroom is a beautiful(real) boat, and surrounding it is a huge buffet with every kind of salad ingredient you could dream of – from house-made sushi to greek pasta salad to shrimp to warm bacon bits. There’s also carrot cake, bread, local Cabot cheese, and local milk. It’s a great place for kids: all the interesting things to look at will keep them occupied, there’s endless free chocolate milk and bread, there’s a kid’s menu and crayons, AND there is a nook with movies and books for children to play in while they wait! Finally, the staff are all AMAZING. Every single one of the servers is incredibly friendly and helpful. Now, regarding the food, it’s delicious. The portions are pretty big, so you could bring home a doggie bag. The menu is enormous, so everyone can find something they want. There is a regular dinner menu, which has everything from scallops to spaghetti, and a bar menu, which has burgers and various fried appetizers. The pub section is more casual, and is a popular venue to watch sports games. The rest of the restaurant is fancier, with white tablecloths and stuff. Hard as it may be, try to save room for one of the amazing homemade desserts! The prices are very reasonable, too.

A classic«special occasion» restaurant. Unique décor adds to the effect, as well as the interesting salad bar configured around a boat, yes, a real motor boat, in the center of the room. What this has to do with fire or ice I do not know. On this Mothers Day, I had the mango Bellini, salad bar & broiled scallops & rice. All our meals were good, as was the service. Sometimes, they coupon in the«Times of Ti.»

What a wonderful experience to have so many fun decorations and old photos in this surprisingly open maze of a restaurant! Just walking through was fun! It was less fun when we received a unenthusiastic greeting from the owner, who wore a name tag identifying himself as such, and then watched him seat three other parties that walked in the door after us even though we had a reservation. When my husband and our two daughters were finally seated, we were placed literally in the most remote isolated corner of the entire busy place where we ate alone. Had we been waiting for everyone else in that section to clear out? I loved our server(and I’m thankful she remembered us up there) and I don’t mind spending money on great food(and the food was great) but I’m really bothered by the treatment by the owner just because we came with children(well-behaved, by the way!).

Just happened upon this place while skiing. The place is decked out in memorabilia and just sitting there in our booth I was entertained by what was in our booth. Now for the review: the staff is welcoming and attentive. Salad bar was worth it. Both dinners were very good and the ingredients fresh. Apparently they use local suppliers like farmers etc. I don’t know about the bad reviews but we are from NYC and they exceeded our expectations. Plus we love Vermont and the people that reside here(author bias?).

This place puts all other steakhouses in VT to shame. As a former employee of a well renowned Burlington steakhouse, I can tell you that our GM, head chef, and owner would dine here, undercover, in attempts to replicate the experience. The salad bar is unparalleled, service is great, and the ‘$ 100 gift card for $ 75′ deal at Costco helps to make it adorable. It’s true that the current owners did away with the super cheap margaritas and bumped up the prices a little, but you get what you pay for!

Our waitress was great. It is Monday so they r slow but the hostess is sitting at the bar on her phone constantly and drinking a «soda» then we watch her go out for a smoke with her friend sitting at the bar,?,? Wtf I know the people that own this joint. Get ready to be thrown under the bus. Food was great as always– blonde hostess with attitude has to go.
