This food makes me happy! Their brisket is so delicious. I’m also a fan of their greens and hoecakes, but everything here is good. Great food, great price. The owners are so nice which is a plus.

By far the best bbq in Jacksonville! They’re always super nice and if they are out of something they’re always willing to make up for it with other amazing options! When your 3yr old points at it when you drive by… you know it must be damn good!

I am giving this place a five star based on their customer service and sweet tea. I had to call up here to see if there were outdoor seating since we had to take our dog to the vet and needed a quick lunch spot. The lady that picked up the phone was more than happy to invite us and our four legged child to come see them. It was a even better experience when we arrived with our pup. The meal was good, not great but good. I had the pulled pork sandwich with two sides which isn’t something I usually go for but I just wanted something small and quick. I’ll probably be back another time to give the food a shot. Again, awesome staff!

Very casual, country feel. Pulled pork was delicious and moist. Cole slaw was a bit different, I actually really liked it because I don’t like sweet cole slaw. The beans were awesome and had a ton of flavor. Definitely a cool little bbq shack!

We’ve been to several of the other barbecue joints in the area and G’s is by far the best! All of their meat is good, the sides are top notch(the only one I haven’t cared for was the collards-they didn’t have much flavor), and the service is wonderful. They make you feel like family and keep you coming back for more. Make sure to come on a Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday for the brisket and Mac n cheese! And the tangy bbq sauce is to die for!!!

G’s bbq is smoking, literally and figuratively! I must say I have a new found respect for pig butts :) We ordered the feast for 4 and received a variety of bbq meats along with two sides. I thoroughly enjoyed the brisket, pork, and ribs. Probably the most tender of bbq meats I’ve ever experienced. Not to mention, Gary has really got these BBQ rubs & flavors down to a science. Even his homemade bbq sauces, had my tastebuds screaming for more. I personally enjoyed the mustard base bbq sauce. The taste was a combination of tangy, tart, with a hint of sweet and its really unlike no other! As far as the side dishes, the homemade Mac n cheese and collard greens also get a two thumbs up. Everything was seasoned perfectly. He was also such a pleasure to talk to and very friendly with all his customers. Although it may be a long drive, it is definitely a worthwhile trip!

Yaaas this place is my jam. The best part about visiting the family out in the burg is this Barbeque right here. The other barbeque place across the street has no business being there. If G’s opened up another location in the riverside area I’m sure it would be a hit. Even a food truck would do. This is some of the best bbq I have had(with Franklins BBQ being the best obvs) This is without a doubt the best brisket I’ve come by in Florida. My only complaint is last time we had G’s the brisket wasn’t quite as juicy as all the other times and the beans had a distinct celery seed flavor. This has only happened the one time. All other times have been mint!

This BBQ spot is amazing! The pulled pork sandwich hit the spot! We had 3 choices of sauce to use which were all very good! The Mac and cheese and banana pudding was also very good! I brought my dog with and there was plenty of tables to sit at out side so I could keep here with me! Highly recommend this place!!!

Food is outstanding. As a Texan, I find it REALLY hard to get decent Bar B Que here. Gs would hold its own anywhere in the country. My only gripe is that that isn’t enough seating. It’s REALLY small and crowded. Otherwise I’d give it 5 stars

Awesome awesome awesome BBQ! It’s some of the best around. The meats are tender and juicy and have a great flavor. A few things that I didn’t like was that they didn’t have too many sides but the sides they did have were pretty good. One BIG negative was that they use Cattlemans BBQ sauce. I wish they made their own BBQ sauces. They do such a great job with the meats that I have a feeling they got some great sauces too. The place is very small and is attached to a car dealer and they have a few seats inside and some outside. This is a must try for BBQ in Jax

O.M.Gee!!! Hubby and I enjoyed the BBQ very much! The BBQ joint is a small establishment located on a busy street so you can’t miss it. We recommend the brisket! But you gotta get here early, for it is a busy little place, bustling with hungry patrons who know where the BBQ’s at! Check out the photos! Yum, Yum!

Family and I finally tried this place after seeing the great BBQ reviews. The Beef brisket is delicious. Would recommend the brisket all day and we enjoyed the fries, baked beans and sweet tea. Sides which I saw most people saying nice things about in previous reviews, were unfortunately mostly lacking on our visit. The collard greens were obviously canned which is what it is, however they tasted bland and were too watery. The mac and cheese looked homemade but it was just oily macaroni with clumps of flour and cheese like it was an old or badly made batch and it tasted very bland and greasy. My son also didn’t eat the frozen chicken tenders which he found to be too mushy inside. Lastly upon arriving the cashier service wasn’t friendly or welcoming at all, I know It’s a family run business so I expect a laid-back feel and attitude especially in a smaller place, however you should always have some basic customer service rules of thumb in place to show respect for the public and your job, especially as the daughter of one of the owners. Something to show some warmth and professionalism and the blonde girl taking our order was just going through the motions and wasnt at all enthused about us or the place, even when I had mentioned to the cashier about how we had seen good things and how we had been anticipating the food. Another woman brought out our food and was much happier to be there and seemed very nice. Just want to share honestly about our experience and all issues aside we will be back again and hopefully service and sides will be much better next time!

This is absolutely one of the best BBQ places around. Gary(aka G) is an amazing BBQ master and this meats and top notch. It is a little hole in the wall place, but it is a gem. If you are looking for BBQ that is done right, not pulled out of the freezer and boiled to heat and make it warm but tended through a long slow smoke, at least for the big meats like brisket and pork butt, this is where you should come. Gary is almost always there and his wife Joy is too. They take personal responsibility for the quality of the food and the service that you get. You will find no better BBQ in town, I guarantee it.

Wow! OK, I have eaten BBQ all over the state of Florida, mostly bad barbecue. And the Jacksonville area for the most part is a vast wasteland of BBQ joints. All I can say is that G’s has the best pork I have had this side of Birmingham, I had almost given up hope. The pork was nice and moist with a good smokey flavor, and was properly rough chopped, some of it seemed pulled. The sides of collards and bbq beans were filled with more pork and the beans were outstanding. Likewise, 3 homemade sauces were pretty good, one mustard sauce was terrific and I don’t like mustard BBQ sauce, but it was the inspiration on learning how to make my own so thanks. Served with a corn dodger that was great for dipping the sauce. Just a wonderful experience, with great service and friendly staff… in fact, I ordered at the counter and my plate was ready before I could pay the tab! This place is tiny, about 5 small tables inside and another 5 tables outside. Several people came in for takeout while I was there. Big selection of hot sauces too. Now, for what I didn’t like. 1) plastic plates with those little portion control compartments 2) small and cheap plastic forks, and 3) the buns for the pork sandwich is just too much. All I could taste was bread, so I chucked the bun. They really need to correct this. I am baffled as to why nobody in the whole state knows how to make a friggin BBQ Sandwich? 4) the Collards, I may try these again but they were awful. It was about 10 bucks for a sandwich and 2 sides and a drink. I plan to make this a weekly trip. It was an 8 mile drive out to Middleburg but it was well worth it. My highest recommendation, the BBQ here is just fantastic. Edit: 2nd visit — Had the ½ chicken dinner and it was excellent. Very moist and tender and paired well with the mustard sauce. BUT, next time I go back I’m going to pass on the Collard Greens, they are nothing but mush. They ought to take these off the menu, they really are terrible. OK, thats it for the cons, the barbecue is the star here anyway. Cheers.

I rarely give out 5 star reviews so do not take this 4 star rating lightly. Before we recently moved here from Minneapolis I lived in Des Moines, IA. Before that I spent 15 years in Kansas City. SO I KNOWGOODBBQ — and well, look at me – I like to eat. The burnt ends here would stand up to any I had in KC. Keep in mind BBQ novices, these chunk/cubes of heaven are not really«burned»…so don’t be afraid to order them. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. And neither needed ANY sauce. But it seems like on the days they have the homemade mac & cheese, you need to get there early! I missed out on that one — but I’ll DEFINITELY be back. Oh, and the earlier reviewer was right, if you’re looking for some white tablecloth, upscale BBQ in a sit down restaurant type experience — keep looking. But if you want some REALLYGOOD slow-smoked BBQ served by friendly folks? This is the place! And in my experience the best BBQ places were usually small«BBQ joints» in old buildings… like«LC’s BBQ in KC». Park in the dirt, or under a tree, get there early because when they’re out that day — they’re out… and enjoy some great BBQ basics.

This place is country BBQ. It’s not the place you enter wearing your Google Glasses, little Tyler and Cassidy in the double stroller in tow, American Express shoved in the guy’s face, asking for«gluten-free» cornbread and for lo-fat kale, not collards and PLEASE(!) hold the salt pork! This is «Southren» BBQ all the way and that is why it’s so good! You park in the yard, under some trees. There’s not really a parking lot proper so to speak of, so prepare to have the Range Rover washed after having visited here. You enter through a creaky door where the counterman(most likely a co-owner and one of the pit-masters) will personally take your order. As for the BBQ it’s pretty good. It is very tender and fall-off-the-bone, especially the ribs but I’ve had BBQ cooked all sorts of ways before and this BBQ kind of reminds me of the stuff I’ve had that’s been pressure cooked(or God forbid, boiled???) prior to being BBQed. Tastes good, but I’m wondering… Venue is fun, North FL crackerbox and the people who work there are all delightfully friendly. Same goes for the clientele but if you’re expecting San Marco hipsters, you’re gonna be sadly disappointed. Everyone who eats here is about as real as people get! Just don’t be a douchebag while here and you’ll fit in fine. You’ll also get to enjoy some very tasty BBQ, too! I will definitely be coming back for more!
