The service and food 5 stars, atmosphere 4. If we weren’t seated between 2 families with children, would have the perfect place. Food was excellent. Lomos Saltido was as good as in Peru 19 years ago, on my first visit. Yucca chips, ceviche buttery rice and mojito(except for bit too much lime and not much rum) were great. Hubs Waiter Yisser(?) had best disposition seen in a long time and my surprise birthday chocolate dessert was divine! Plan visit and revisit unless we have tasted the entire menu.

Everything about this restaurant makes it special. We ordered the Pisco Sour drinks which is one of my Peruvian favorites and it was on point. For appetizer we had the Corazon Anticuchos which were soft, livery and delicious. My mom had the Whole fish Nikkei which was delicious but is better to be shared since it is a huge plate. My dad had the Lamb Chop Seco which tasted smokey and the meat was very tender. My lover the Lomo Saltado which he said he’s had better but to each it’s own. A bit pricy but worth it

Do you Love to drink unlimited top quality cocktails for brunch(oh I have your attention now … ?) and have beautifully presented food to accompany sitting by the water while enjoying Florida’s weather(in the winter) ? Then come to this gorgeous restaurant in Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Outside terrace offers magnificent views of Miami Downtown or sit inside in a modern and cozy atmosphere listening to the music with DJ playing 70’s and 80’s disco hits. The food is spectacular for the eye and for the palate and the creative strong drinks make it even better. Beautiful brunch buffet style and in addition(each person) gets to choose one main course from the menu plus table side prepared fried rice is another great dish for everyone to share. Service is NOT Miami style but actually attentive and friendly. Aaaaah and the desert wow wow wow the presentation alone will have you smiling with joy. Definetely a must try. PS don’t expect bacon ham and cheese omelette, pancakes or chicken and waffles, this place serves gourmet Peruvian cuisine and yes they do have great ceviche. Four stars only because it is pricey(especially if you don’t drink much) $ 85 per person or $ 120 if you order crab legs as a main course and not much fresh seafood variety at the buffet(no oysters, shrimp, crab or lobsters like some restaurants offer for that price) still worth to try at least once.

We came here on our first night on a VERY(as in booking flights/hotel the night before) last minute trip to Miami. My parents had been here a few weeks prior for my dad’s birthday and loved it so much it was the first(and best) restaurant they took us to on the trip. As I said above, it was a very last minute trip so I don’t think we made reservations, but went anyway and because they remembered my parents, we were abel to get seated after waiting only 20 minutes(mind you this is during Christmas week– the busiest time of the year). We sat outside overlooking the bay with an amazing view of the city. I can’t for the life of me remember the same of the server but he was AMAZING. He was super patient in explaining the specials and taking our orders. I had the Grouper Chorrillana as a main and it was amazing. The fish was perfectly cooked and the flavors were very balanced– you could actually taste the food. For apps my dad and I split the Nekkei. My sister who is vegan got a salad and they modified one of the udon noodle dishes to make it vegan– she said it was really good! I can’t remember what the rest of my family had but I do know that we all really enjoyed the food. For drinks I had the mango Piscojito which was delicious and very refreshing. Even my dad who drinks nothing but wine and scotch thought it was good :). We’ll definitely be back here next time we’re in Miami!

Stayed at the hotel this past weekend and even though we wanted to try out the brunch we woke up extremely early and decided to do the breakfast buffet instead. Not your regular buffet, which I was excited about. The restaurant itself was extremely clean, open and inviting. Upon entering they asked us for our name and if we wanted inside or outside seating. With the day being so beautiful we chose outside and spent our time enjoying the beautiful view. We didn’t even mind the birds who kept staring at our food. Our waiter was amazing and my husband loved that they kept calling him Mr. Soler haha. They offer you a newspaper for our reading pleasure and every time you leave the table for more they change out your silverware. For breakfast buffet they had an omelette station available with all the fixings, scrambled eggs, many different types of baguettes, rolls and sliced breads along with bagels and different spreads. Sausage, bacon, cheese blitzes, yogurt parfaits, cereal with milk. Pancakes, waffles, spreads, different kinds of fruit including dragon fruit, grapefruit, syrups, cream cheeses in different flavors. Croissants and different bread type pastries. Home fries and different kinds of juices. My husband loved the coffee and I had the fresh squeezed orange juice. Everything from the taste of the food, the service, appeal, ambiance was perfection! Wouldn’t mind coming down to brickell again just for breakfast with that view :)

We are staying the the Mandarin Oriental and had heard several raving reviews about La Mar. Why I don’t know. We went for lunch and the service was awful. There were 3 of us and the food came out all at different times, one meal took almost 20 to get to the table. Our waiter wasn’t able to help select a gluten free lunch although the menu specifically says there are options for such, as well as vegan choices, ect. I can’t recommend this place. The food didn’t make up for the terrible inattentive service. It’s not what you would expect from the Mandarin.

Great location. Food was great. One of the few waterside restaurants worth the visit. Very romantic. The nikkei which was tuna seviche with tamarind sauce is awesome. The lamb chops were filling and tasty and grouper over yuca mash was excellent. Great wine by the glass(NELSON) and overall a wonderful experience.

La Mar is located in my favorite hotel in Miami the Mandarin Oriental. I’ve been coming here with my husband since they opened and each experience has been better than the last. It is very modern and colorful inside of the dining room. The views on the terrace are to die for. You have panoramic views on the bay and the large buildings. The staff is always friendly and provides superior service. I always get ceviche and the arroz con mariscos and my husband gets the lomo saltado. The seafood is so good and fresh. Is is cooked to perfection and the flavors come together so well. I’ve had the octopus as well and it is amazing. We’ve been here for lunch, brunch and dinner. I personally prefer to come just for brunch. While it is quite expensive I feel that it is worth it and also believe that it provides a good value. They have stations set up with almost every item on the menu that you can try. You also get a choice of an entrée and a house filled with delectable desserts. You also get unlimited booze for two hours. You certainly can’t beat that. Chef Oka is very talented and he is a great guy as well. You must get the pisco sour here it is the best. Just be careful as you can easily get into trouble with them like my husband does lol. The passion fruit pisco is also amazing. So far his is my favorite Peruvi

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental so of course dined at LaMarcus during our stay. The first time we enjoyed appetizers at the bar. We had the empanadas, tuna, Peruvian chicken wings and a beef skewer. All of the food was really good. The wings have a wonderful, spicy sauce that has quite a kick. The empanadas were my favorite. They have a buttery, flaky crust filled with savory chicken. We also had several drinks served up by Lef. He is the best! The drinks were awesome! Day 2 we dined on the outdoor patio for breakfast. They have a buffet which is $ 30 pp. Neither of us are big breakfast eaters so we got the American breakfast and shared it. The chicken sausage is great. Their breakfast potatoes gave me life! They also have a fresh Berry juice that is really good.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this place. I saw the Nikkei carusco on the tv show Food Porn and wanted to try it! It was amazing! The carusco was light and silky. It was delicious! We also had the wagyu beef skewers with the quail egg on top! Fabulous! My husband had the eucalyptus mule which he said was refreshing. I had a pisco sour which was one of the best cocktails that I have ever had! Don’t let the egg whites scare you — it just makes a foam layer on top of the drink(like beer). It’s so, so good! Oh! I forgot to mention the amazing yuca chips(the best that I have ever had) and the yummy dipping sauce! The sauce was so good that we asked for more! It had a little kick to it! For our entrees, we had the whole fish Nikkei and the clay pot rice. Both had a sweet sauce which I didn’t really care for but they were both still very good. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse with the quinoa topping. I had no idea what to expect with quinoa on a dessert. It was like mini rice krispies on chocolate mousse! Phenomenal! Five star service from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The hostess and the waiter called us by name(Mr. & Mrs. Kong) the entire time. Our server, Nicholas, was very attentive, without being pushy, and made excellent recommendations. Thank you Nicholas! We had a wonderful time & can’t wait to come back!

Classy place in Brickell with a very chill but elegant vibe. It’s right by the water, which makes for a great view and soothing breeze that form the perfect setting in the evening. The drink prices are fairly typical for the area-cocktails are all around $ 15. I tried one of their piscomojitos and it was delicious-perfectly sweet and sour with the definitive but subtle trace of alcohol. Didn’t get a chance to try the food here but it definitely looked good. Would love to come back the next time I’m in Miami!

After months of research my bf chose to proposal to at the LaMar restaurant. He called LaMar on Friday, November 27th and spoke to a young lady, explained his intentions and set reservations for the following day, November 28th at 9:15 pm. The following day he followed up with the restaurant who assured him that«Everything was taken care of». Upon our arrival, we were informed that our reservations couldn’t be found, we were told to wait at the bar«until something became available» after waiting nearly 45 min I spoke with the bartender(who was the only one to offer an apology) he directed my boyfriend towards the manager. I have to admit, The manager on shift did work diligently to attend to his request, which we are grateful for, but that doesn’t justify the experience. Once we were seated my boyfriend was disappointed to see that none of his requests were fulfilled. He had requested rose petals to be placed on the table, and a champagne bottle, none of this was done. He had also requested that the staff write«Will you marry me» on my desert plate, instead the plate said, «Do you Married me»(see photos). The entire experience was bewildering and disappointing to me, once he explained to me what he had setup. I’m still puzzled on HOW a restaurant, such as LaMar could drop the ball so badly. This was suppose to be a special moment for us which turned out to be one of the worst dinning experiences we have ever had.

Quick Background about me: 9 years in the hospitality industry(from dishwasher, server, manager, you name it!). Have worked as a personal chef. Traveled extensively through Europe, lived in Africa and South America, Now the U.S. I find myself a foodie and pretty decent at wine… Review: this was simply the most extravagant lunch I have been to in a long time. Service was impeccable, cocktails irresistible, food was fresh, tasty and had PLENTY to offer. Absolutely everything was INCREDIBLE from the ceviche down to the dessert at the end. My only complaint: we came from brunch but there was no «breakfast» items anywhere to be found. Please add bacon somewhere please! I beg!!!

La Mar is beautiful! Worth a visit at least once to enjoy the Miami sceneries. I was disappointed however by my dinning experience, though I would give them a second chance. I visited for a Bday dinner and the food just wasn’t impressive. I’m sorry to say, but I’ve had better. There was a favorite, but overall wasn’t good enough to to bump them to a 4. Maybe my expectations were too high, since this place is GORGEOUS! I can’t get over the décor and ambience. The minute you walk in there is a gorgeous wall plant followed by an open kitchen and beautiful bar. Take a few more steps and you’re outside on the patio area. The outside seating was perfect! Beautiful views of the bay and the famous Brickell high-rises. There was just something lacking though. I typically enjoy Peruvian food. Unfortunately, there was love missing, or maybe it was an off night. Grilled Octopus– The flavor was there, but if you’ve had octopus, you know the key is in the texture. This has be cooked well to perfectly execute this dish. That did not happen. It was quite chewy and undercooked. Sweet breads– This was my favorite dish. The flavor was smoky and salty. The potatoes were a perfect balance. The chard exterior really hid the unique texture. Definitely a must try. We ordered quite a few more dishes, and well, they either lacked flavor or the texture wasn’t right. The service was wonderful. We had a large party, and they were pretty accommodating. With all the perfect ratings, I’m honestly thinking it was an off night for them. But why did it have to be my night? Lol

I had such a fantastic experience at La Mar inside Mandarin Oriental located in the man-made island of Brickell Key. The VIEWS are breathtaking and a reservation is recommended to beat the crowd and sit outside. Inside dining does not disappoint as the décor is modern-chic, and very welcoming. If you like Peruvian flavors, you will love the FOOD. I had several Cebiches — all were delicious but the Criollo stood out. The king crab Causa was perfect, as well. For the main entrée, we shared the Snapper Nikkei which was OK and the Branzino which was exquisite. To top it off, I had«La piña, el coco y el manjar» for dessert which was mouthwatering. So when you come to La Mar, create a mosaic spread on the table: the items are meant to be shared for a reason and you will want to try everything! The specialty cocktails are equally delightful: the Pearformer and Pisco sour were both ideal for the evening. Honestly, Gastón Acurio hit the spot with La Mar, bringing authentic flavors at an amazing location.

I liked this place, but I didn’t love it. The ambience is excellent. The music is upbeat and fun, and the drinks are delicious! The lavender twist is a must try. Now, for the food, I was expecting the BEST of the BEST since the restaurant is owned by Gaston Aucurio, Peru’s most famous chef, but I wasn’t that impressed! It was good, just no as amazing as I thought it would be. Portions are small as well. The service is very good and the server knew everything about the all the plates we asked and Peruvian gastronomy overall. I would say this is a good place for date night but only to get some drinks at the bar. If you sit outside, the view is perfect.

During a business trip my team and I(12 people) dined at La Mar for our last meal in Miami(August 11, 2015) and it was a true stand out! We were seated outside to take in the sunset on the water and the atmosphere was fantastic, I just wish there were a little more lighting. The format of the restaurant fit well with our group — there were a lot of shareable plates so we were able to taste a number of dishes. We started with the Cebiche Sampler(Clasico, Criollo and Chifa). My favorite of the three was the Criollo Cebiche with calamari, shrimp, yellow tail snapper, cancha, and ají amarillo leche de tigre. All were very light and the fish was supremely fresh! A number of small plates were passed and my favorite was the Quinoa Caprese — heirloom tomatoes, basil, red quiona, burrata cheese with aji amarillo pepper vinaigrette. The tomatoes were perfectly ripened and the combination of the burrata with the pepper vinaigrette was phenomenal. The main dish and star of the meal, for me, was the Whole Fish Nikkei! It’s the catch of the day, which was Branzino the night were there, prepared with Peruvian-Japanese spicy sauce, bok choy and white chaufa broccoli rice. The presentation of the fish was fantastic with the body serving as the dish and the fish bites lightly coated in panko and tossed in the spicy sauce. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. I didn’t see this on the menu, but the waiter brought us a portabello mushroom dish with asparagus. I have no idea how it was prepared, but it was delicious and everyone at the table enjoyed it. In addition to it being our last group meal in Miami, we were also celebrating mine and a coworker birthday. The waiter surprised us with two Mousse de chocolate fortunado del Perú which had toasted quinoa on top for a nice nutty finish. It was the perfect end to a delightful meal. This restaurant should be on your list for Miami. I know it’s on my to try for brunch on a future visit! A quick, non food related note, for those that are prone to bug bites — wear bug spray if seated outside. Three of my coworkers gotten bitten quite a lot during our evening meal.

I have to say, i absolutely FELLINLOVE with this restaurant. I have never been here before. But i have been eyeing this place for a long while now. To look for a fancy restaurant with a gorgeous waterside view and chef owned, it stole my heart. These are the restaurants that people speak of, that money in fact, can buy. I called for a reservation for two at 8pm on a Saturday night and requested a view by the water. They were incredibly accommodating and polite, they even asked if i was celebrating anything special that night. This restaurant is located inside the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Brickell, downstairs. Just like the movies of classy chic restaurants, you see the wait staff dressed nicely and tables with candles, the kitchen with chefs working their magic, indoor design is incredibly modern gorgeous, especially outside. Very romantic. We sat outside patio literally by the water and the brickell city lights and the bridge with lights to our right. lucky us, we saw the moon and planets Jupiter and Saturn in the sky that night. You will be very impressed. As I sat down, our waiter Yaser pulled out my chair for me to sit and for my date. He was so polite. We were served right away with complimentary chips and mustard sauce and glasses of water. Yaser was impressive in his knowledge and vocabulary on the menu. He had an exotic accent to him, which made the night even more romantic. If ever Yaser happened to be there and I was either getting out or into my chair, he never failed to assist. We took our time looking at the menu. For starters we did two appetizers. First the Clasico ceviche($ 17) which consisted of Fluke, red onions and cilantro. Second, the Emapanadas($ 12) Beautifully presented and garnished. Not a fan of raw fish but that ceviche was pretty good, perfectly made. The empanadas were huge and they came in a pair, one fitting one person size. Delicious with a little spicy kick to it. To my surprise, we were starting to get full. Great thing about their entrées here is that they’re shareable portions, typically feeds two people. So we ordered the Grouper Chorrillana($ 29). It consisted of Grouper, tamarind sauce on a bed of mashed yuca and smoked bacon. Another beautiful presentation, plated with bold colors. Grouper delightfully tender with a Lil crisp to it’s skin. We almost couldn’t finish it. But! There is always room for dessert. Forgive me but I totally forgot the name. But it was warm brownies served with chocolate kisses crisps with almost like a hazelnut ice cream. Yummy! Before I knew it, we spent a total two hours here. NEVER was a moment that I felt rushed or neglected. Bill wasn’t so bad. It came out to about $ 106 with an automatic 18% gratuity included. Yes, we added more tip to that. The staff was amazing and incredibly calm and genuine. I really fell in love with my experience here and would do it again. Only criticism is that it was pretty humid and hot to sit outside, hopefully they provide more fans. This is definitely one of my top list restaurants. HIGHLY recommend.

Sitting on the patio overlooking the open water as boats pass by on a breezy evening in Brickell Key accompanied by the warm welcoming serving staff all acknowledging me as Mr. Wong was how I spent my Saturday night. Did I forget to mention the amazing Peruvian cuisine that was devoured? Oh! Well we started with a ceviche Classico and a conchitas which was their scallops seared and smothered in lomo saltado sauce! Scallops were perfectly cooked! For the main courses we had the paiche chorrillana which was Amazon fish with mashed yuca and bacon. This was my favorite entrée! We also had the plancha anticuchera aka the grilled octopus with potatoes and chimichurri. Delicious! Dessert is usually my favorite part of the meal. But not tonight since everything else was so great and honestly probably should have ordered a different dessert to try. It reminded me of a grown up dirt cup. Good, but I prefer my desserts to be more sinful and decadent!

We arrived at La Mar on time for our 7:30 pm reservation and were immediately escorted to a table outside close to the bridge, which provided a view of the water and Brickell, as well as the Brickell Key bridge. We ordered cocktails to start. We then ordered the Causus sampler as an appetizer. It arrived at the table early and was very tasty, but only came with two pieces of each of the three types. My husband wanted to try another appetizer so we ordered the Tiradito de Salmon. It’s a good thing he wanted another appetizer because the Tiradito was the highlight of the dinner. To accompany our dinner, we ordered the Sanctuary Rutherford Cabernet which is priced at $ 90. For dinner I ordered the mixed ceviche appetizer. All of the ceviches were good but there was nothing that set them apart from the ceviche I’ve had at other Peruvian restaurants around Miami. My husband ordered the Limo Saltado, which he said was very tasty but not the best he has had. For dessert, they brought us chocolate cake that was not on the menu for our anniversary. It was light mousse-type cake with a crunchy chocolatey base. We also had ordered the Picarones for dessert. They came with a chocolate dipping sauce and were really good but they are basically fried donuts with dipping sauce like churros so I wouldn’t be inclined to order them again. Our waiter, Ed, was very attentive and friendly throughout the meal — he did a great job, as we’d expect at a restaurant like that. The sommelier did not assist in picking our wine(nor did we ask her to). She opened it for us and continued coming around to fill our glasses until the bottle was finished. They added gratuity to the bill, which was insulting to say the least. It left a bad taste in our mouths, which we don’t want at the end of a meal and bottle of Rutherford wine. Despite that(or to wash out that taste), we stopped at the bar for one last drink before heading home. The bartender, Iris, was really friendly. We each ordered pisco sours, which were very good. Iris then gave us another piece of cake for our anniversary and two drinks served in champagne flutes with berries at the bottom. It was a wonderful end to a wonderful dinner. Next time, we may just go sit at the bar with Iris and order pisco sours with some tiraditos.

I’m one of those blessed enough to have had the experience of dining at Astrid y Gaston in Lima, so when I found out Gaston had brought his talents to the 305, I was very excited! Once brunch was announced I knew it was the perfect opportunity to check out La Mar, and after rounding up 12 of my closest friends UYE style, the reservation was made. BTW, the reservation staff was very accommodating on the phone and had zero issues with such a large group coming in. After valet parking(which was free for 3 hours after validation) I headed down to the restaurant and made the decision to sit outside. Honestly, you can’t sit anywhere else. The view of the Brickell skyline across the water is top notch, but be warned, it’s hot! And despite not wearing much clothing, I was still wishing I was in a bikini lol. Our server(Sai) did her best setting up a giant AC/fan to keep us cool, but in the end the Sangria was your best bet for trying to stay cool. Ok, so where do I begin? The brunch here is very similar to Zuma style. 2 hours for all you can drink cocktails, ranging from the typical brunch fare — mimosas and bloodys, as well as traditional Peruvian favorites — pisco sours, el tunki etc. And despite not being a vodka drinker I did share a few sips of the Blue Bay as recommended by a fellow Unilocaler before my visit. That drink is awesome! Ok, so that’s drinks. For $ 85 or $ 120 depending on which entrée you choose you can partake in both the buffet line and choose one entrée of your liking, which also comes with a fried rice served table side. The more expensive entrees do entail you’ll get better champagne too, but honestly not many of us were downing mimosas so it didn’t matter much. And yes, Peruvian drinks are better than Mimosas! In true Savanna fashion, I hit up the buffet line a little too often, so by the time the entrée had arrived, I couldn’t eat more than one bite. Sadly, we were not allowed to take our entrée selections home. A bit of a downer, but I’ll let it slide since everything else was truly fantastic. The buffet line is a bit of a work of art and all of the dishes are as beautiful as they are delicious. There are two sections split by cold and hot selections. The cold side featuring every ceviche and tiradito under the sun, as well as sushi, Korean style buns, salad, fruit, yucca, potatoes etc etc. And I must note, that sushi was delicious, as was everything else, but yes, get try the rolls! The hot section features grilled items on skewers, an amazing presentation of deep fried fish served on a deep fried fish, lobster soup over a poached egg etc etc. Note that the cornmeal dish over beef was one of the best items I had all day. My one regret at La Mar was not getting it sooner when I had room to get a second one! Honestly, look at my pictures as well as others, the buffet line was stunning! Next up, the entrees. Everyone in the group went with the $ 85 options, and I was excited to try them all. Which, meant I tried none lol, but they all looked delicious. My grouper was extremely well cooked and came in an amazing tamarind sauce. Ok, so barely touched my entrée, but you know I saved some room for dessert! In true Gaston fashion dessert was part show and part taste heaven. Our large group was brought out two fantastic dessert«towers» that came out in a cage that was then opened and split into tiers in front of us. You could tell some time was put into the execution of every single bite sized piece — ranging from chocolates, to mousses, to chicha morada gelato! Amazing presentation! As I mentioned before our server Sai was awesome and she really strived to keep us all happy. When we were getting close to the 2 hour time limit she warned us so we could all order drink refills. Thanks to everyone who came out… it was certainly an amazing brunch, made only better by great company! So, who wants to go back for dinner with me? ;)

Bienevido a Miami Gaston! What a fabulous and fun restaurant located in the best hotel in Miami. MO has really improved upon the space formerly known as Café Sambal. The atmosphere is hip, exciting, and fun! From the moment you walk in, it’s clear you’re in for a fun and tasty treat. It’s not stuffy and pretentious at all! The menu is very large and authentic, but a Gaston Acurio restaurant is bound to be authentic! For those who don’t know, he is a standout chef/restaurateur from Peru with a handful of well renown and awarded restaurants throughout the country who has begun to spread his wings to North America, and I’m glad he has landed in Miami. My husband and I dined here for our anniversary and had a delicious meal. We began with the bario ceviche which was recommended by the exec chef. With fresh snapper, mussels and shrimp topped with fried calamari. With a touch of heat, it was a delightful dish. For our second course we split the causa salad which was a beat purée atop a classic causa con aji de gallina sauce which was delicious, but I would have been okay skipping or replacing with an anticucho. Our main course was the star of the show. We ordered the whole fish, which was snapper that evening. The presentation was almost as amazing as the flavor! Very lightly fried and covered with a semi spicy Japanese inspired sauce, this fish was amazing. Definitely enough to share with two, maybe even three. We polished every piece of fish off of our plate. We will definitely be returning here for another meal to try more of the dynamic menu!
