I’ve been to this restaurant a few times now. In almost all cases I felt the food and drinks were great, but the service is slow and tends to lack polish IMO. My most recent visit here was with a friend for dinner on a Monday night at around 9:30. We were seated right away and given menus, chips and water. After a fairly long wait our server returned and took our drink orders — my friend got the pisco passion, and I the pisco sour. About 5 minutes after we ordered our drinks, our server came out and waited on another nearby table, looked at us, pointed up as if he had an «aha!» moment and walked into the restaurant. After another 5 minutes he came out to speak with the patrons at yet another table, looked over at us, pointed up again to do the«aha!» and this time went inside and returned with our drinks, which were great. He then also took our orders. I had the Vaca Frita, which was very good, but the presentation was a bit unique in that the meat was actually served in a bowl made of fried plantains! The rice and beans were also flavorful and the sauce which seemed to primarily be oil with crushed garlic, really enhanced the flavor of the meat. My dining companion had the taqueria platter, which looked more like mini fajitas to me, and we also had an order of the traditional Peruvian ceviche to share as an appetizer. The food and drinks were great, but as mentioned, service was slow and could use a bit of refining. We split the bill evenly which came to a bit more than $ 46 each, including gratuity. We’ve also come here for brunch on a few occasions and nearly the same comments apply; Good food, brunch menu prices are reasonable, but service is often lackluster.

tl;dr: Good Ceviche with a lot of flavor and nice ambience, but I was very unimpresed with our entrees(Friday Special — Argentina Choripan & Roasted Pork Belly with Lentil Tacu Tacu). What I liked: — Ceviche — Complimentary homemade pita chips with delicious curry-like dipping sauce — Atmosphere Favorite Ceviche: Black Market Seafood Ceviche It was a good mix of seafood that complimented each other very well with the seasoning. It wasn’t overpowered by the sauce like some of the other ones. We also tried the Oriental, Peruano, & Levanta Muertos. These were all a bit sauce heavy such that you couldn’t get much of the fish/seafood flavor. Aight as an Appetizer: Friday Special — Argentina Choripan –pros: really great flavors! I loved the cilantro basil dipping sauce that it came with. It added a really nice freshness to the savory/mildly flavors of the sausages. Bread was lightly toasted so it had a nice crunch to it too. –cons: TINNNYYYY(see pictures)!! The dish itself looks like an appetizer with 4 slices of bread topped with 4SLICES of sausage. While the taste was good, this is something that looks simple enough for me to make at home. I expected a bit more given the price. Dish to Stay Away From: Roasted Pork Belly with Lentil Tacu Tacu –pros: It looked nice… –cons: MUSKY taste… great in colognes… not so much in food… The pork belly itself was unremarkable and a bit dry. And while pork belly normally tastes amazing no matter what, a little bit of seasoning would have been nice. The Lentil Tacu Tacu though was DISGUSTING. It had a weird musky aftertaste that just sat unpleasantly in your mouth. Service: Great :) Overall: I think this place is worth trying out for the ceviche & atmosphere. It will be a bit pricier for dinner, but what isn’t at coco walk? I would stay away from the roasted pork belly and go with the other popular dishes ppl tend to order/recommend for here.

Ceviche and white sangria was awesome. Service was great. Food, not impressed. The Mahi-Mahi tasted very fishy and basic. Nothing out of this world.

With the ratings this place has, I expected much more. I got the Mahi Mahi«el Macho» and the Mahi wasn’t as soft as it should be. We got the White Sangria which was great as well as the Ceviche(2nd on the list, can’t remember the exact name). The service was good, atmosphere and décor reminded me of a Cheesecake Factory. All in all, I wouldn’t return for anything here, but good otherwise.

Casual ambience, good for families. Certainly marked up prices for the location. I was extremely underwhelmed by my pork belly entrée. The flavors simply were not good. The pork belly was OK only in the sense that pork belly is inherently delicious. It had no seasoning infused in to the meat. Also — the rice/corn/bean side dish just didn’t taste good. It had a strange, sour flavor. Highlights –delicious, fresh lemonades(mango, strawberry, passion, pineapple, etc) –I loved the red curry sauce that comes with the pre-meal chips Conclusion: I am spending only 12 weeks in Miami. Too many great places to try — will not come here again.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant with family and friends for years. Their ceviche is absolutely incredible, every sauce is packed with taste yet they don’t let it overpower the fish(I recommend the Tiradito Lima). I’ve ordered just about everything on the menu over the years, but I have to say the Ahi Tuna sandwich on the baguette is my favorite. They leave it raw like it’s meant to be, with the edges seared perfectly. If you’re stopping by for lunch, they offer a great prices half sandwich + soup special which allows you to try multiple items without breaking the bank. I would rate this as my favorite restaurant in the grove. From the moment you get there you’re treated to chips and a delicious(and spicy) sauce, the servers know their menu excellently and will never steer you wrong.

Only positive things to say about Jaguar! Our waiter, the service, and the food were all amazing. All the meal courses were delicious and flavorful. They have a variety of piscos on the cocktail menu. I ordered the passion fruit pisco sour First we started off with the«Freshly Made Guacamole with Chips» $ 12. The guac came with mariquitas and tostones, yum! Then we had the«Ceviche Spoon Sampler» $ 15 where we got to taste 6 different spoonfuls of ceviche. All of them were great but my two favorites had to be the mango one and the jalapeño one. More great food kept coming… For entrees, we ordered the churrasco and the salmon in lime sauce. GETTHESALMON! ITIS A MUSTTRY. For dessert, we ate the paloma. It was crepes with dulce de leche and banana. It was everything a dessert should be! We had such a great experience. You should definitely carve out time for this gem in Coconut grove.

Have been coming to Jaguar for over 10 years. Brunch, lunch, dinner — it doesn’t matter to me. I bring friends, family, and business guests. The food is innovative and consistently excellent, but the service is why I return. If I have a bad day, I can stop in for a beer(or tequila + sangrita) and I’ll feel better. Jaguar is a case study in execution and dedication to hospitality. Today I’m trying the Quinoa salad with salmon!

I had a nice place to be with someone special. Ambiance is casual. I had the fish tacos, it taste good, but not the sauce. Andy had his Salmon that consist of sweet potatoes, corn, lime butter sauce with lemon. He really love the food. It was so delicious and healthy. The service was not really good. Dining outside is cool and comfy.

I really like this place. They run a smooth operation with timely, educated and thoughtful service which is a real treat in Miami, I enjoy the Ceviche sampler and the guacamole dip and a Negra Modelo. I started bring my tennis students here after class and it has been a big hit.

I’ve been here numerous times over the years, and have never been disappointed. I’ve also never been blown away, so three stars feels just right. The ceviche is very good. I’ve recently gravitated towards the daily(hot food) specials which I’ve been pretty happy with.

How many times have I walked past Jaguar Ceviche, seen the Jaguar painted in a green square, and considered strolling in? How many times have you? If you can keep an open mind about food or particularly love Peruvian seafood, I recommend you stroll right on in next time you’re in Coconut Grove. I had a pretty big party and accommodations were made for us instantly. The atmosphere was chic and vibrant while remaining comfortably casual. It reminded me of Manhattan eateries if Manhattan eateries were tropical. Our table order an assortment from tacos to soup to ceviche to burgers and we were all pleased except those who do not like to be adventurous with their food. If your palate cannot appreciate flavor beyond«white rice and beans» then this place is not for you. If you like to taste the world without leaving your area code, try Jaguar with a friend. Service was impeccable except for a minor sub which was requested but overlooked. Were it not due to an allergy, I wouldn’t deduct a star and while I understand that the kitchen makes the food and not the server, the server should have specified on the ticket and double checked the food before it went out. Ultimately would try again.

Nice, nice, nice, nice, nice — I’d give it 4 ½ stars! We picked this restaurant because it was close to the hotel at which we were staying and because it allowed corkage(BYOB for a fee). We had planned to bring a vintage bottle of wine to share with friends but the friends opted out of dinner so we went sans wine. The place was fantastic! We started with a ceviche sampler which included six different ceviches in separate ceramic spoons. My date and I disagreed on our favorite ceviche of the bunch but they were all good. I then had the Mahi Mahi Mango Verde. The fish was incredibly fresh and the mango and sauce were a perfect combination. It was all served on a bed of rice. We decided that the restaurant was so good that we returned the following night.

I have zero complaints about this place. We walked in and were seated immediately. They immediately brought out their corn tortilla and pita chips with salsa. Our waitress Melissa was very sweet and personable, so I’d consider the service exceptional. I had the Salmon Norma and it was absolutely delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The salsa was so light that it wasn’t a heavy dish at all. Needless to say, I’ll be back. I recommend this place to anyone that enjoys good food for a «reasonable» price.

The food here and drinks are pretty good. The one disappointment was the ceviche. We ordered two different ones and they came in this spicy red sauce, swimming in it. The sauce was good, but way too much. Cant say if the ceviche was actually good because all you taste is the sauce, regardless of which one you order. Their fish tacos are pretty good, but they also come with the same sauce they used on the ceviche! It feels like they use that sauce for everything. Bottom line, good for drinks and some of the mains are good… but skip the ceviche.

Nice place, very good food. Nice ambient and service. The only complain even thought the Peruvian ceviche was excellent was that it was all mixed up. The real one was ceviche, chocolo and camote on the side.

Nice place. Great for dinner and happy hour. We chose the latter but we also had the quesadilla app. which was delish. this place is more of a restaurant than a bar. The bar area was quite small but we managed to get a table and had some very tasty margaritas. The staff was lacking on service a bit but very friendly. I am not sure what kind of music was played but they did have t.v.s so a game night there would be pretty cool I think. it’s not too expensive. the happy hour is buy. one get one free so our check for 3 people was under $ 45.00. I would go back

Jaguar is a good place for ceviche lovers. I love that they have pita chip/corn chips as a starter instead of bread Or just corn chips. Their tacos are good. They also have some new items on the menu like their grilled chicken which I truly enjoyed. Not so crazy about the fried rice dish. I don’t know why restaurants like to drench rice bowls in sauces. And it happens to me all the time. Yesterday I finally learned to ask for the sauce on the side. And I feel like they’re a bit over priced, the entire chain is a bit over priced for me.

If you like ceviche this is the place for you! A big plus is they immediately greet you with water and chips with delicious salsa! I definitely recommend getting the spoon sampler! I love the oriental and there’s another one with octopus and mushrooms it’s to die for! The only thing is sometimes the cooked for is a little inconsistent. Some days it’s out of this world and others it’s eh, good. Yet it’s still delicious.

Sehr feines Essen.

Delicious the ceviche sampler was awesome and the grilled octopus fantastic! My wife had a salad which was yummy and other meals included the salmon and a variety of meat specials which our party enjoyed. Atmosphere was fun and not too loud for coco walk which is a great place to hang when in south Florida. Service also excellent !!!

Great place in cocowalk. Love the ambiance, the presentation/taste of the food, and variety of items listed in the menu. Fish was fresh and drinks were amazing! I had their sampler but I wish I would have just ordered their traditional ceviche. I’ve been here before and had waaay better service in the bar than outside. The place is extremely clean and I noticed that the busboys/waiters constantly clean up. Which is a definite plus with me!

Another great meal at Jaguars! After sampling six ceviches last year, I knew what I wanted this time and got two fullsized portions of my favorites. Also got the blackbean soup which was once again, amazing. I really love this place and it’s on my must do list for every trip to Miami. So glad I randomly found it last year!!!

I went with a very large group which always makes it hard to give a fair assessment. That said, I can asses the dish I had, the steak salad. The salad was drenched in dressing making the spinach really soggy. The steak was cooked well, but temperature was cold and flavor was not particularly impressive. Others at my table got the prawn dish and chicken tacos — both were sizable dishes that looked good(prawns were HUGE) and they seemed to enjoy their food. Ambiance is nice and located in a cute part of Miami. Gotta say, despite our very large group, the service was great and staff were pleasant. I do think it’s a good place for big groups!

Our second visit. The ambiance is very nice and the crowd is mixed ages. The ceviche was smallish and ok. I had churrasco which was nothing special, my wife had Mahi Mahi which was very over cooked and dry. The side was grilled vegetables, bland. Overall a typical place in high traffic areas where the quality of food is secondary.

Don’t let the«ceviche spoon bar» in the name scare you, Jaguar’s menu should offer a little something to please even the pickiest eaters. I really didn’t care to try this place, mainly because i had an itinerary ready for a fun birthday weekend which included eats with a show. Since it was all for a friend who was visiting, I scrapped my awesome plans and ended up here at her will. I think she likes this place just because there is a kitty cat on the face of the menu. Not gonna lie, the kitty cat on the menu is a nice touch. I’m not a «grover» so figuring out where to park in the grove on a Friday night was tough. If you manage to find street parking then go with that. Second choice should be the lot just west of Jaguar which happened to be $ 5 flat rate that night. There are a few other flat rate lots in the area which are a good option if you’re planning to spend a few hours in the grove. Your last resort would be the cocowalk parking garage which can add up quick if you aren’t getting your parking validated. Jaguar is pretty flexible on the ambiance front. Outside it is pretty bright and spacious, inside the lighting is much softer and varies in intensity throughout different parts of the restaurant. There is art running just about the entire length of the walls that goes well with the contrasting earthy colors found inside. Something i didn’t initially notice was that there where a handful of different table styles too. We chose to sit inside because my polar bear blood couldn’t deal with the humidity that night. Seated at a table for two felt just a little too intimate though — I usually have 3 drinks on the table at any given time so it was a little nerve wrecking having to be extra careful not slap all the cups over with my huge paws. If you’re like me, opt for one of the bigger tables. They offer complimentary chips with a spicy tomato based sauce which I didn’t really care for. To get the juices flowing we had ‘Pisco passion’ and ‘Pisco sour’ cocktails which were strong and flavorful. As an app i ordered the ‘Tostones with cochinita pibil’ since you can’t go wrong with a tostone topped with anything. Main was the ‘Mahi-mahi mango-verde’ — The fish was a little overcooked and the house rice wasn’t very exciting but the mango, pepper and cilantro jumble really made up for it. I also tried a bit of the ‘Tiradito Nikkei’, it packs a spicy punch and hides it’s disgusting zingy fishyness well(ok, I’m not a fan of ceviche, sue me. [side side note; Please don’t sue me, Jaguar]). There was no dessert because both of our faces were stuffed. The portions of the entrees and ceviche are just right. Note that some of the ceviche is offered in different sizes. This place makes for good casual or date night eats. Wouldn’t be bad for groups either as long as they are limited to 4 – 6. We were here for a late Friday night dinner and there were a lot of people here but it was far from over crowded. There are theaters, plenty of bars and even some parks not too far away so it shouldn’t be too hard to find something to do in the area.

This was such a disappointment– not sure if I just came on an off day? Brought my friend who was visiting Miami and had never tried Peruvian food and I wanted her to love it as much as I do. Was super excited to try a new Peruvian place. It was relatively empty(Tues evening) but the service was subpar– he didn’t mess anything up, but it was very impersonal and made me feel like he didn’t want to be there. Pita Chips + salsa(complimentary) — These were one of the highlights, but I wish the salsa had more kick to it. Pita chips were good though Ceviche sampler — we were originally going to order 1 ceviche after deciding which one we liked best out of the sampler, but we didn’t really like any of them. Fish tasted not fresh, and the sauces all tasted very different in texture and flavor. Not sure if we got an entire dish of ceviche if we would feel different about Jaguar’s ceviche Crab and Corn Cake– The appetizer comes with 2 huge crab cakes. Highly recommend these, generous portions of crab and corn and the sauce that comes with it complements it very well Lomo Saltado — This was the worst dish. The steak was way too well done, I took one bite and I didn’t want to eat anymore. The fries were cold. The rice that came with it was good though — it was white rice with corn and peas(tasted like fried rice). We resorted to eating just the plain white rice with the sauce.

This place is alright but very pricey for the portion of food you receive. The service was very good though. Our waiter was very attentive. I ordered a mango mojito which was very tasty. The waiter then brought us free pita chips which came with a salsa that was very good. We shared a ceviche spoon sampler that was good but 2 tasted the same. I ordered the lunch special of chicken Tacos which were also good but not all that.

After my last review management got in contact with me and offered me a gift certificate so that I could return to Jaguar for a second chance. I was impressed because this showed me that management really cares about this establishment and its customers. I arrived with my friend around 6 and decided to sit at the bar for happy hour. As we sat we were told the drinks specials and advised as to which cevice spoons we could choose from to acompany our drinks. The bartended Jose I think his name was was pleasent and offered to help us with entrée choices when we asked for his opinion. The quesadilla was awesome, I really liked the aoili it came with. The mahi tacos on the other hand I feel left something to be desired. We had four drinks so were able to try 4 of the ceviche spoons all of which were good. My personal favorite was the black market. Service was excellent!!! Juan and Jean Pierre made it a pleasant experience and at the end of the night when I did not like my last drink very much Juan made it a point to make me something else. I’d come here again just cause of them. I guess second chance was the charm for this restaurant. Definately will return for happy hour once again.
