I took a flier on this place because it’s in an odd location(top floor of the«international mall» one of many very tiny malls in downtown Miami) and because the(only) other review for it was a five star, noting the«genuine authentic Cantonese style entrees.» China Star, it turns out, sells generic food court style American-style Chinese food(I’ll be fair here: it is, indeed, in a small food court). This meant cafeteria-style service. And it meant the kind of grub you could expect to find next to SBarro, or a Chick-Fil-A, etc. On the plus side, you get a massive portion and it is super cheap. For $ 6.41(tax included), I got rice with shrimp, boneless spare rib, bourbon chicken, and an egg roll. Unfortunately, it ended up being a bit below average, even for mall-style Chinese food. The egg roll was a bit too oily and started to come a bit unwrapped when picked up. The texture of the bourbon chicken was not good — too ‘springy’. Both the boneless spare rib and the rice with shrimp were fine. Hard to imagine a reason why I would return.

DOWNTOWNLUNCHSPOT The Chinese have had a direct connection to the West Indies and Peru for nearly 200 years. Havana once had the largest Chinese settlement in the entire western hemisphere. Chinese minorities known as Hakka were the first to have settled in Jamaica. Yet there are no authentic Chinese restaurants to be found in downtown Miami. UNTIL I spotted this food court counter next to a most popular Latino restaurant Isla Dorada. Any four items for just only $ 4.99. It’s all genuine authentic Cantonese style entrees… It’s previous name was Golden Jade.
