I came based on the Unilocal reviews. Umi is expensive. However, the location is nice and the sushi is top quality. The service was excellent. I tried the tuna pizza, toro, and the delano roll. All three are highly recommended. Those three items and a bottled water cost $ 120 with tip. I give Umi 4 stars — 4.5 stars for this visit. I plan to return and explore the menu further.

Fantastically graceful, surprisingly intimate, and ever slightly anachronistic. Great for people watching. The toro and FDR rolls were superior. We came on an unusual night and had the run of the place to ourselves. We’ll be back again to try it when there’s more characteristic chaos in the lobby.

I loved the food here! Tuna pizza was definitely the best. I would definitely come back JUST for the tuna pizza. All the sushi is really fresh and has a special taste to it. It’s definitely one of the best sushi places on the beach in terms of quality. I didn’t like how it’s laid out, the big long table is awk to sit next to strangers. Also, the iPad is so confusing to order the drinks from. It kept freezing up. I would just rather just order it.

The food and service is awesome! The Garden Salad is great… The dressing was so yummy. My husband loved the Tuna Pizza. The atmosphere is really nice. It is quite expensive but worth it.

Died and went to sushi heaven. Here are some pointers: 1. they don’t take reso and there are about 20 seats at most(communal style dining) get here earlyish otherwise you’ll wait 2. get the tuna pizza — fresh shaved tuna and truffle. DUH 3. waitstaff is a little … shakey but work with them 4. get the FDR roll — just do it 5. yes, the cocktails are expensive but you’re most likely on vacation — go with it 6. go outside to the pool after dinner, lay on the couches and continue to drink highly recommend — pricey but worth it

If you’re looking for a sushi spot in Miami Beach that isn’t touristy, terrifying or completely overdone, Umi is it. It is by far the best sushi on the beach, and to top it all off the atmosphere is perfect. The sushi bar is situated in the lobby of the Delano, which is spectacular. Everyone sits at a small communal table, and the sushi chef prepares the sushi at the head of the table right in front of you. It’s a great, laid-back place to meet friends or go alone and make new friends!

I have been coming here for years and I have never been disappointed. The food is awesome specially the Big Eye Pizza and everything else the Miso Soup is the best. The lighting is very nice if you sit with you’re date in the back at the table. This is one of the best kept secrets on the Beach!

Worst service worst food worst dinig experience. The owner lady is a rude rude lady. I told her the ikura tasted bad /fishy. Her response was — no it’s very fresh you don’t know what you are talking about. Her overall demeanor and lack of professionalism made it very clear to my as to why the restaurant was completely empty. Her husband sat across the restaurant listening to the entire joke of a conversation this woman was holding with me– I could see he simply wanted to bury himself of embarrassment. If you want old fish and a bitchy attitude this is the place for you.

Quite simply one of the best places for sushi in North America. Easily up there with the best of Tokyo. I stop there whenever I am in the area if only for a snack and a chat with the master.

I have been here so many times and never even knew what this«restaurant» was called! I don’t know if I would really call it a restaurant as it’s basically one table that seats about 5 and then one long communal table… so I guess it does constitute it as a restaurant. They need to put a sign on top or something or on the table just with the name of this place as it’s in the Lobby of the Delano hotel so it’s just a place to grab some quick bites. The wine list is amazing… food excellent… service not so good but I have had mixed reviews each time regarding that. The ambiance rocks but Philippe Starck designed the whole hotel including this small restaurant so how can you go wrong? They have this one particular roll that is rolled with soy paper and has crab in it… to die for. Really it is amazing… if you eat there you must try this roll. It’s $ 9 I believe for just one but it’s pretty big and just bursting with flavor. Definitely check this place out for a late night dinner or quick bite to eat!

First question I heard upon returning to the States after living in Japan, «Did you eat sushi every day?» Not quite, sushi is girl-food…like salads, soups and desserts. Plus it’s easier to find it in Kendall than Kyoto. There are three main types: 99¢ a plate kaiten-zushi/conveyor belt style, $ 360 per person fine dining like Sukiyabashi Jirō featured in Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and those that focus on the ‘extreme’ like fugu(poisonous puffer fish) or raw meat – Mid-range restaurants don’t survive because of stiff competition from Izakayas(gastro-pubs) and trendy foreign fare. Umi falls somewhere between a standard American sushi bar and an upscale Japanese version. Named after the word for ocean, it’s purposely decorated in stark white with flowing drapes to conjure up images of puffy clouds, crashing waves and sea-salt. Communal Table — Instead of marking your territory with invisible borders there’s a steady flow of conversation, recommendations and often an invitation to sample something delectable. I’m sure it was a matter of space rather than intention but there are too few of these in Miami. Chef — most local sushi chefs are Thai or Mexican and I applaud their skills but I prefer to eat sushi made by hands that have grown up around the culture, survived grueling apprenticeships and speak the language. Chef Toshi Motoyama hails from Yokohama, was trained by Iron Chef contestant Akira Back and already made a name for himself at Zuma. I had two of his creations — TABEMONO Spicy Yellowtail — Japanese amberjack, Mexican serrano chili, asparagus and hand grated wasabi marinated in soy sauce. The two types of heat gave it a nice pop, the veggies added some crunch value and the fish was firm and flavorful. Baked Crab Hand Roll — snow crab meat mixed with dynamite sauce(Sriracha/Kewpie mayo/sesame oil) wrapped in mother-of-pearl colored soy paper. I popped this in my mouth and exclaimed, «Oooshiii/Deeliciooous!!!» Toshi.0 quietly nodded and thanked me. Cut into perfect bite-sized pieces, served at the right temperature, and not overly dressed to let the taste of the seafood shine. It may seem simple but the fish is never frozen, the produce fresh and the sauce is meant as accent not a distraction. It would have been perfectly paired with a drink except – NOMIMONO Wine starts at $ 15…for a glass of Ste. Michelle Riesling ‘Eroica’ that costs $ 17 a bottle at Publix. Cocktails start at $ 20…you could easily spend $ 100 on a round and pass both a breathalyzer + sobriety test with flying colors, «ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA.» Sake starts at $ 56…for a bottle of domestic ‘g Joy’ Junmai Ginjo that costs $ 18 at Total Wine. Thankfully I had two 8% Bud Lime-a-Ritas before arriving and a Groupon for Automatic Slim’s that was burning a hole in my pocket. If you’re a fan of dark beer the one thing you shouldn’t miss is – Asahi Black — Munich-style dunkel lager that’s rare in Tokyo and it’s made there. If you’re a fan of Beck’s Dark or Negra Modelo take a swig of this as you probably won’t see it again. Seems their sommelier reads the same Wine Advocate publication I do, yet charges exclusive SoBe prices for a basic selection of beverages. If you’re a fan of savoring sushi and sashimi, this restaurant is unparalleled in Miami and meets my quality-to-price ratio. I would highly recommend, nay, beg you to forget the ‘Sake Bar’ portion of the name and dine at Umi Sushi.

My traveled friends took me to the Delano for dinner and it was one of the best meals we had while visiting Miami Beach. The hotel is beautifully decorated and oh so sophisticated. We had drinks in the Rose Bar. I requested a Blood Orange Martini, and even though it wasn’t on their menu and our bartender made one… The Rose Bar is very chic and cozy, with a few tables to the side of the bar where my friends and I sat and caught up with each other. After finishing our drinks, we moved to UMI, the Dalano’s Sushi & Sake Bar and had dinner. Our server was Japanese(which added a little authenticity to the restaurant’s theme) and very accommodating. I had the Edame as a starter and the Tempura Roll(which consisted Rock Shrimp and Dynamite Sauce). Everyone ordered something different and of course we sampled each other’s orders. Great atmosphere and food, just what I wanted in Miami Beach!

Well… this sushi bar is inside the Delano, so I expected to spend some money, I was right. 1 person and it was almost $ 90. Sushi was yummy… however, super pricey. It was fun to people watch. Super small place…1 long tall table and 1 smaller table for like 6 people. Tiny sushi bar… only 1 server. If I come back to Miami, I wouldn’t plan to come back here.
