Cool little spot with a lot of potential. It’s just north off of Collins beyond the Gansevoort by a couple blocks. It’s on the small side and away from everything else in S. Beach, so you’re not likely to have to deal with too much riff raff. People that go to Poprox go out of their way specifically to see a particular band or dj. They could use a little help with their promotion, because as of right now; their website is not up to date with calendar listings of acts. So it’s difficult to know ahead of time who is playing there.

This has three stars, but it is really more like 2.9 stars. You can tell it’s trying. We arrived early on Friday night, around 11pm. As we waited for the first band to set up the music the DJ was playing was fun 80s. All I wanted to do was dance, when I suddenly realized everyone in the place looked bored out of their mind. I couldn’t believe it. The place is super cool. They have cool painted wall murals, a pool table, a fairly large sized bar(limited beer selection I was told, but large nonetheless) with stools, and a comfy looking seating area to enjoy the show. But all this didn’t seem to motivate people to move, much less smile. Seeing that I was having an off night myself, I opted to sit outside until Minimal played. I kept seeing people walking in and out throughout the night, and as I shamelessly listened to their conversations, I noticed everyone had the same complaint: music is too loud. Now, why would that be a bad thing at a bar for live music? well, it distorts the sound, and at that the music was too loud even between sets, so people couldn’t have a conversation. I walked back in, enjoyed the show to the best of my ability, given the sound, and after the guys played stuck around to dance a little — by this time the spirits were flowing wildly and people had begun to dance. As I tried commenting on the show and the night to the people with me, I too noticed the loud loud music. You definitely couldn’t communicate without the use of sign language. The owners of this place pride themselves in being musicians and opening a live music bar that other musicians can enjoy. But when every one that played and everyone that listened complained about the noise level and how loud the music was, there is def. something wrong with the musician+bar equation. I say give this place a chance. It is definitely out of the way in south beach. Go check out a live show… and pray that the owners read these reviews and do something about the audio. Worse comes to worst, you can always take a date with an annoying voice and just dance!

yeah, i also came here to watch a live band. as denise says. parking was really easy cause theres a lot right across collins ave. the bar is dark and smoky. the stage area looks straight out of guitar hero and theres a dj booth by the side. service was pretty decent. prices are ok. i think i had 3 sam adams and a goldschlager. paid 33 dollars without tip. i wish they hired a better sound person. it was so loud inside. the volume was just blasting and it was hard to stand it. i think sound is the reason why i rate this place 3 stars. i would go there often if i lived in the area, cause even thought its close to south beach. its SO not south beach.
