Some of the best Cuban and Thai I have had! They are now closed :-(

Pictures in Unilocal are not of izzys!!! Best yuca fritas I’ve had. Did not try Thai, very happy with the Cuban apps tho!

Easily the best combination Cuban/Thai/Stand-up Comedy Restaurant I’ve ever been to! All seriousness aside, I was very impressed overall. Food was very good – both the Cuban & Thai, service as well and at very reasonable prices. Portions could perhaps be a bit more generous, but probably sufficient for many. As Comedy hour approached, the place got filled to capacity on a recent Sat. night. Location is good too @ the Sherry Frontenac Hotel on 65th Street in Miami Beach. Good time all around!

I am craving this right now, I never thought cuban and thai food would actually work but this place is good. Atmosphere is a little off for me. I enjoyed the plantains they offer as a side dish and the shrimp was amazing also the cuban thai sample platter is one of a kind. I would say its almost similar to the one here in california for some of the foods but has a bit of a different taste to it plus they add spice which is quite tasty if you may ask. So sad I wish I was back at miami beach and for other reasons too

We were craving Cuban food that was within walking distance from our hotel. Using our iPhone Unilocal Monocle app, it led us to this random older hotel that housed this little restaurant that served Cuban and Thai food(super random combo). It was probably about 1pm, but the restaurant was totally desolate. We were greeted by an older gentleman who kindly showed us to our table. Our waiter arrived and took our orders. I wasn’t sure what to get since I’m not very familiar with Cuban food at all. We ordered empanadas for our appetizer, and he suggested I try the Bistec de Pollo — a very popular and traditional Cuban dish — for my main entrée. My friends ended up ordering red curry chicken from the Thai menu. My dish was honestly a tad bit bland. The chicken was very moist and succulent, but the sauce was not flavorful enough. My plate also included a choice of three side dishes(white rice, black beans, and fried plantains) — all of which were quite plain as well. The beef empanadas were absolutely delicious though, and my friend’s red curry chicken was scrumptious as well. Overall, I’d give this place a 3.5. The food was decent, the service was great, and the location was really convenient.

A very extensive menu and there’s no doubt everything’s tasty as the food I ordered, BUT this place is need for a big facelift. I ordered the red curry chicken and chicken wings. Both so good! Just the right spices and sweet and savior dipping sauces. Now for the bad part, don’t believe the pictures you see on the info page. I suspect that people working there put those up! Notice the food pictures have their restaurant trademark at the bottom. An obvious sign that the owners posted it, not actual Unilocalers. The décor is not as pretty either. There were unfinished walls and exposed nails everywhere. At one point of the meal, someone flushed the toilet and I could smell the toilet cleaner while I ate. And I was seating farthest away from the bathroom. And oh make sure you bring CASH… either their card reader is broken for the past 6 months or they just don’t have one. Last waitress took my card and pretended to swipe my card for five minutes… ugh this review should really be no stars…

I have been to Izzy’s Cubi Thai twice. The first time, we had an unprofessional waitress who messed up our orders, but she made amends by providing us with a 10% discount card that could be used on subsequent visits. A few weeks later, I decided to give the restaurant another chance. The waitress I had before was not there. In her place, there were two inattentive, generally unpleasant women who appeared to hate their jobs. As luck would have it, my party got stuck with the worst of the two. (To be swift, I have chosen not to dwell on how crummy the service was because restaurants like these are like a box of chocolates, and it would not be fair to bash them for having an incompetent hiring manager.) As the name implies, Cubi Thai features both Cuban and Thai cuisine, but if you are expecting some creative fusion fare, don’t hold your breath! What this restaurant lacks in service, it makes up for in an ample selection of menu items. As a vegan, I could appreciate that they had a small vegetarian selection of Thai food. I was really hoping they would have some vegan-friendly Cuban dishes as well, but they did not. Our cruelty-free entrées were aight, though a bit on the spicy side. The tofu was soft and egg-like in texture, not very appetizing. The food was served warm, as if it had been sitting in the kitchen, neglected for quite some time. Judging by the absence of patrons and its poorly painted interior, one gets the impression that Cubi Thai is a half-baked cookie, struggling financially. It has a very DIY, diamond-in-the-rough kind of vibe to it. The décor looks cheap, with hand-me-down furnishings and art that appears to have been salvaged from a garage sale. This establishment suffers from an identity crises. There is a stage, some big chairs, a projection screen, and crappy movie posters scattered all about. What is this place trying to be? A lounge? A comedy club? A movie theater? Our waitress could not say for sure. When our check arrived, I presented my discount card and received a weird look, as if to say, How did you get this? Even with ice tea refill charges(how dare they) and gratuity automatically included, the check was only $ 47 and change for a party of 3. Reasonable enough, I suppose. Flexible standards not withstanding, Cubi Thai failed to even meet my lowest expectations, an offense up with which I refuse to put.

Too bad I have to give it one star because I liked their food! However, they have always given me the impression that they don’t like taking credit cards for payment. One time, a girl told me that the credit card machine was not working so I had to pay cash. Last time, a guy told me he prefers cash. I only had $ 2 with me so I paid with my card but gave cash as tip(even though it was a to-go order). I found out later from my credit card statement that they had added $ 1 as tip on the bill. It’s too bad because I liked their food but I will not be coming back to this shady establishment! Oh, and another time, we dined-in there and they had included tip in the bill even though it was only two of us. Glad we caught that one. Like I said before, the food is not bad here so if you decide to eat here, just watch your bill and check your credit card statement!

My girls and I found this place on Unilocal as we were searching for Cuban restaurants that were near our hotel. When she came across this place that had Cuban and Thai food all of us were sold! This quaint place is located inside of a hotel and to our luck it was empty when we got in. I was surprised at how extensive the menu was… I was actually a little overwhelmed because everything sound delish!!! Since it was lunch my friend and I decided to split the cubano and this other roasted pork sandwich, it also came with fries. All of the meat was flavorful and the bread… hmmmmm the bread was soooo buttery and crispy. The fries were pretty standard nothing too spectacular. We enjoyed the food so much that we decided to order food to take back to our suite with us. I ordered a noodle dish that was similar to Pad Thai and I wanted some empanadas but they were out of the wrappers :-( The servers were awesome and very accommodating, the chef even came out and spoke to us and gave us some of her baked ziti to try. We all felt like were part of the family. Great food and service, I will def. be back on my next trip to Miami!

I had Thai-Coconut Curry and it was good, portions were fair. It just took a long time, there was a table of 8 and us four, in the whole restaurant! It was after noon and we were hungry, we got 3 mini spring rolls to compensate for the wait. located in a old hotel on the beach, I thought it had been open a few weeks or months. It looked unfinished somehow, I liked the décor but wondered where the rest was. They been open 3 years and still seems like someone’s hobby, not extremely proffesional.

We have walked by this place since it opened and never went in. Today we read some reviews on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. Our family is a tough crowd to please with one vegetarian, a meat eater and two more flexible types. We loved the spring rolls and stuffed plantains and had wonderful entrees. We spent some time chatting with Izzy and he explained all about the separate Cuban and Thai kitchens. Had some of each and it was all excellent. Desserts were quite a treat, particularly the fried Thai donuts. Credit card machine however is still broken. Thankfully we had cash.

Ate here last night! The Thai Chicken Drumsticks were amazing as usual. A must have IMO. Also had the Red Curry with brown rice. It’s nice that you can choose white or brown rice. Also delicious! Probably would’ve given 5 stars except for the fact that this is my third visit in as many months and the credit card machine was broken each time. Luckily I had the cash, otherwise it’s a hefty fee for the hotel lobby ATM machine. Get it fixed please.

Izzy greeted us himself. Earnest and friendly, he explained how the menu was derived from his Cuban favorites and that of his Thai chef’s. We started with the combination platter for an appetizer. It included empanadas that were a little over-cooked but the dumplings called toston relleno was to die for. It’s just a scoop of spiced beef filling inside a golden ball of deep fried mash pototaoes. I don’t know what that yellow sauce was that accompanied it, but it was great. Soooo good! Next time, I’d order that alone. There were tasty Thai treats on the platter as well. We both went for Thai entrees, however. I had a wonderful green chicken curry, and my husband had the massaman pork dish. Both were tasty and satisfying. We’re tourists here for a week and we plan to return before our stay is over and order Cuban entrees.

Food was amazing! Try the ‘House Special Volcano’ with Shrimp. Sitting in the Thai section of the restaurant is a great experience. You’ll never leave.

We returned at my husband’s request. We purposely arrived early to avoid a crowd(ie: long wait for food) and the nightly movie that starts at 8pm. Lucky for us, the appetizers came out right away with our entrees following in a timely manner. My husband actually timed them and we were in and out in under an hour(we endured an hour long wait for our food last time). The service was great. Once again, the food was delish(I love their thai iced teas!). Our only complaint is my husband asked for the hottest version of his dish. Turned out my dish was way hotter… and I asked for mild!

I ordered the Massaman Curry with chicken at medium hot. With tasty avocados, potatoes, and lots of chicken along with a perfect white rice, this dish was sweet, hot, along with wholesome cashews. It was a perfect balance of flavor and spice, sweet and hot, juicy and a touch of crunchy. I’ll definitely go again when I’m in the area!

We checked in at our resort and wanted to explore Miami so we decided to head north rather than to south beach to check out the town. We found some decent reviews for this place here on Unilocal so we decided to make our way to Cubithai. We arrived and they asked us if we wanted a table or to sit on the Thai side. I was confused & requested a table. The restaurant is painted red and half of it is tables and decorated with Cuban style decorations and the other half has floor/low table seating and is decorated in Thai style décor. We ordered off the Thai portion of the menu as Cuban food isn’t typically vegetarian friendly. We started with the vegi spring rolls and Thai salad. Vegi spring rolls came in a small order of 3 cut, fried spring rolls about 2″ each piece, the salad was also small, but tasty. I am not typically into iceberg lettuce, but I enjoyed the dressing so it was okay. I may have enjoyed it more than others though as I am a sauce person and love peanuts and the dressing was a thickish peanut dressing. For our main course we ordered the Pad Woon Sen(medium spice). The noodles were a bit saucy, but tasty and light. We also had the Thai iced coffee which was delicious! By the time we finished we were too full to try any deserts. It cost less than $ 30 for my boyfriend and I to eat a nice dinner. You honestly can’t beat the AMAZING prices!

Yeah!!! A place with Thai food that is actually decent :) I’ve been having a hard time finding anything I like since my visit to Thailand last fall, but this was good! I got their DUI noodles with tofu and it was great. I like spicy so I ordered it medium(I always do the first time somewhere until I know if they actually put spice in it) and it was actually medium spicy. The veggies in it were all fresh and cooked just right — not soggy, but a little bit of crisp… which I love because then you know it wasn’t lame frozen veggies. I will caution you though, if you don’t like cilatro, don’t order this particular dish. I don’t think it noted cilatro on the description, and it is garnished with it. I like the fresh taste, so I liked it :) I’m excited to go back and try more things. It’s nice inside– all red with black tables. I don’t think they have any out door seating. The food came fast and the servers were nice… the one at the door was also very handsome if anyone cares about that sort of thing ;)
