Though somewhat off the beaten path, this site was well worth the visit. First, the aqueduct over Duck Creek is a Natl. Civil Eng. Lndmrk. What one sees today is a 20th c. reconstruction of the 1846 construction. The canal construction was initially a state project which broke ground in 1836. In the end, the project changed hands and is responsible for bankrupting the state of IN. Thanks to this financial mess, the state put in place barriers so that the state would never again be held liable for such financing of projects. Second, the town and restored grain mill all add to the atmosphere of the site. Finally, visit during the operation of a replica canal boat along the tow path across the aqueduct and back. Also, support the local businesses which sell antiques to ice cream to lunch. Finally, the town operates a campsite across the highway from the town.
