I have been wanting to stop here for a Mckenzie butter milk drop. How disappointed I was when I got home. It was NOTHING how I remembered as a child. Dry.stale. No taste(I did take a picture). It completely fell apart. i tossed it in the garbage .my friend with me just glared at me in amazement. Sorry to say. I won’t be riding there for another. On another note the turtles were very good. Chocolate on them was very creamy and tasty. They seemed to be fresh. The cookie was very good.

I like to support the local economy and local restaurants when I can. Tastee Donuts on Clearview is ok. It can take quite a long time, especially if you go through the drive thru. There is no way to exit the drive they once your in line, so if someone decides to take their good ol’ time inside working or outside ordering, then you could be screwed. I tried to go here the other day and was in line at the drive thru for about 10 minutes before I got to the window. Then waited another 5 minutes at the window while one person disappeared into the kitchen and another just kept helping customers inside. Needless to say I didn’t get helped so I left, but wasted 15 minutes of my morning doing so. I should have just gone to cop a donut in Kenner but I was already on Clearview. Oh well, you live and learn.

This is a pretty old location. I remember coming here with my dad and brother long before they converted to the pink buildings.(Yes it’s been around a loooooong time.) I usually come here when I need a buttermilk drop fix since they took over the old McKenzie’s recipes. It’s not new, definitely not pristine, but thanks to taking over the buttermilk drops they are the few locations I can get my fix… or a king cake if I need one.

White Castle style burgers still exist??? What??? We passed this place while going to the ice cream parlor and saw a sign for their burgers and decided to investigate further. Upon our internet investigation we found out that they had White Castle style burgers and decided we must indulge ourselves even though we were already full and fat. They have meal deals and have a set price for ordering 3 sliders but, I opted to order two for myself. The people behind the counter were awesome and super informative about the menu. You order at the counter and they give you a number and then deliver it to your table. My order came out and I took the Unilocal photo like the good person I am. The sliders come just like you remember them if you remember White Castle style burgers with a pickle, chopped onion, mustard, the patty and the bun. I opted for more mustard so I made my way to the condiments on the shelf. I grabbed the mustard and tried to squeeze it but, nothing came out so, I went to the counter and the lady ran it under hot water and told me to try it. To no avail it did not work yet again. She was laughing and smiling and I got a kick out of it and she told me to bring it up and she would do it again but, I said no it’s cool I will just take the top of. She laughed the entire time I dumped the mustard on my burger. The sliders were exactly how I remembered them being from White Castle. I can’t believe this place exists and I wish it was next to my house. For a dollar and some change I had a tasty great and trashy slider in my mouth. What could be better? You should stop by this place and check it out if not for nostalgia purposes but because they have cheap prices, great staff and delightful looking doughnuts!

Great coffee if your not into that strong kinda coffee. The service at this location could be improved.

Although their name has changed a couple times, the quality remains delicious. Fans of old-style Mackenzie dough-drops & tea cookies will be over-come by sweet waves of nostalgia!

The place that sells the donuts I grew up eating now sells the kingcake I grew up eating. Not to mention Castleburges are so wrong they are right. Oh– yeah– they have buttermilk drops now. This would have been a 5-star review if the place were a little cleaner and the service were snappier.

The food is pretty decent for fast food, but the service is terrible. I’ve had my food thrown at me after a long wait. I called and talked to «management» and they only apologized. Kastle Burgers are great, but go to a different location!

I walked out of this place for the third and last time in my life! The donuts are delicious, but the place is filthy, the wait is long, and it’s always chaotic behind the counter. They have no system for filling the orders and no leadership. Not worth the trouble.

I don’t consider myself a donut aficionado, buuuuuuuut I do know good donuts when I taste them. Since McKenzie’s has closed, this is all thats left of the REAL Naturally N’Awlins Donut Shops. I actually prefer some of Tastee’s Donuts over McKenzie’s; just my opinion. This Tastee Donut is in Metairie in Clearview Parkway & this location has a sweet, sweet drive thru, just for«lazy little olé don’t wanna keep getting in & out the car» me :) So much to my delight, this location has: *a drive thru *sweet lil grannies that take & push out ur order *best king cake this side of heaven *DONUTHOLES&&&&&& wait for it *Kastle Burgers(not white castle, but they’ll suffice for a temporary CASTLEBURGER fix — notice the difference in spelllllling) Did I just go unconscious, regain consciousness & go BACK under again??? I mean really… whats NOT to love about this place… Grannies, donut holes & Kastle burgers??? I gotta stop, I’m yearning for some donut holes RIGHTNOOOOOOW!!!

Local residents love Tastees for having the McKenzie«BD» recipe! Many people come for kastleburgers and buttermilk drops. In addition to the two, I stop in on occasion for their grilled cheese sandwiches and king cakes(during MG season). The kastleburgers are definitely better than Krystal or White Castle in my opinion simply because their patties really taste like meat and the bread is fresh. This location is open 24 hours and has drive through service which is perfect when you are on the go and not keen on parking and walking inside for $ 1.50 worth of food. Instead you can burn $ 4 in gas for the $ 1.50 in food. While I am not one to regularly eat doughnuts, I often find myself making a regular visit to this place when I am in town. There prices are reasonable and the quality is always up to par.

Donuts are daunting, and I try to avoid them. Guilt overtook me and I mostly swore them off after making a very sad lunch out of three Krispy Kreme donuts on one very sad day. But that was Krispy Kreme, who I assume to be the rival for this location of Tastee Donuts in Metairie due to proximity, so, «WHATEVER» to Krispy Kreme. One of their slogans, which I felt I was making up, and I still feel like I’m making it up because of how bland it is, though it’s totally on their boxes, is «It’s a New Orleans thing!» And I guess it is: their library of sweets has included McKenzie’s goods in recent years. Those who’ve grown up in this area know what’s up: here’s a beacon still shining from your childhood. For transplants to New Orleans, the nostalgia-triggering presence of McKenzie’s baked goods probably doesn’t connect so directly. So what put me at Tastee Donuts on my last check-in was just that: Tastee sells the old school McKenzie’s king cake. The dough is soft and sweet, and there’s no icing to be found. King cake traditionalists will point to this as a superior king cake, and hype or not, it’s fantastic, and worth checking out during that blissful period when the king cake makes its majestic presence known. Tastee’s also known for their Kastle Burgers, little sliders in the same vein as Krystal and White Castle, and another reason I was there. After debating over«uhhh, how many of these can/should I eat,» I noticed a menu item literally called«Special Meal»: three Kastle Burgers, fries, a drink and … A DONUT! For five bucks! A very scary meal, but pretty cool. A downside for this location is the parking situation. There are about seven spots for cars in a tiny parking lot /drivethru. You can probably park at the Frostop/former Pizza Hut next door, or you could, of course, go through the drivethru. So, I can’t chime in on their donuts, which is the item listed in their name. I don’t know. I might buy some for my office tomorrow? This location’s been going strong versus the Krispy Kreme across the street for a few years now, and I wish them luck in the coming years.

I don’t really eat donuts, but for all the old New Orleans heads, having a place that has the McKenzie’s recipes is a huge thing! For the owner purchasing the old McKenzie’s recipes, this place gets an extra star!

I’m not so sure how this place is still open. Their donuts are never fresh. I get it, they have McKenzie’s baked goods. I stop by every Mardi Gras or so to get a king cake. A childhood thing. Other then that, just go across the street and get Krispy Kreme.

Forget Krispy Kreme, they over-glaze everything. Tastee is where it’s at! What gives them the advantage? Using McKenzie’s old recipes. The buttermilk drops are fan-freakin-tastic. Tastee has more than just donuts, although that’s really what I always go for.

So I’m not so big on Tastee donuts and never have been… well, except for maybe their cake donuts. That’s pretty good. But more importantly, Tastee is where you can get your old McKenzie’s Bakery fix. They sell the McKenzie’s recipe sweet rolls, jelly roll, buttermilk drops, coffee cake(which I’ll be sampling tomorrow) and KINGCAKE! I know, I know. For the folks who didn’t grow up here, they just don’t understand the love that many of us have for this simpler, sans icing king cake. But this is what King Cake was growing up, all that filling stuff was for fancy folks and probably didn’t appear until the 80s. So go get your McKenzie’s fix today!
