Burger joint at Lakeside Mall It was good. Eating at the mall sucks. Seating at the mall sucks. But the burgers here and OMG the milkshakes are amazing. The ketchup they use tastes different and better then other ketchup. Smash burger is great. I hate eating at the mall but if I must I’ll go here.

I am a red blooded American and love red meat; especially hamburgers. Therefore, I was pretty stoked to try Smashburger on a recent visit to the Lakeside Mall. I was instantly impressed as I approached the counter as everything was impeccably clean and the cashier was actively engaging the customers in a very polite manner. Kudos to the management team for demanding polite employees. I opted for a bacon cheeseburger and substituted cheddar cheese instead of American cheese. Overall, the burger was good, but not spectacular. I like the large selection of fresh condiments available and the egg bun was one of the better buns I have ever tasted. The applewood smoked bacon was good and cooked like I like it, which is NOT crispy. However, a burger is all about the beef, and even though Smashburger is using fresh(never frozen) 100% certified angus beef, I found it to be unseasoned and a little too small. If I’m paying, $ 12.00 for a burger, fries & drink, I’m expecting at least an 8 oz. burger, which this was not. It was definitely cooked properly and very juicy, but if you have a big appetite like me, go for a double beef option. The«signature» smash fries, which are tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary and garlic were tasty, but there was entirely too much olive oil. In fact, not only were my fries saturated in olive oil, but when I held the«cup» upside down, olive oil ran out of the cup. I’m hoping that my fries accidentally got too much olive oil and this is not the norm. In summary, if you are in the mall and want a good meal, Smashburger is a good option. However, there are several burger options in Metairie(Mooyah, Atomic, etc.) that may be the better option.
